I just received my new 15" MBP which I had configured with the 7200 rpm 500GB hard drive. How do I check to make sure they installed the 7200 rom drive and not the 5400?

Thanks in advance.

Go in Apple System Profiler (Apple Menu, About this Mac, More Info) and click on Serial-ATA. Then, make sure that this: ST9500420ASG is listed beside "Model:"

So, how long from clicking 'buy' to delivery?

I'm in a rather different position than most of you here. I'll be out of town for a week starting Saturday. I want to order a new, standard 15" UMBP entry level, but I don't want it to arrive while I'm gone.

How long is it taking for the more recent purchasers to receive their non-custom deliveries? In other words, if I click on 'buy' tomorrow evening, when (most likely) will Fedex knock on my door? I live in DC.

Thanks...

Well I have played with my new Mac for about three hours now, and as a MS user of many years, I can say that I am now irreversibly converted. I don't know why it took me so long to make the switch! Everything about the Mac just makes more sense, and is much easier to use. I already feel at home with OSX, and I'm sure it will only improve with use! Can't wait to get more familiar with my new machine. :D

I'm in Philadelphia and I placed my order last Sunday night (June 13). According to FedEx i'm scheduled for it to be delivered on Monday June 22nd.

Here is a question. Did anyone here order one of the new MBP's with the 320 GB 7200 RPM Drive? I purchased that one and just today decided to look at my HD and realized that for capacity it only says 297.77 GB. I know normally a HD doesn't fit exactly what it is marketed to be, but here we are talking over 20GB missing. I find this to be pretty odd. Anyone else have this or experience something like this?

i suggest you learn the difference between bits and bytes. :) wiki is your friend.

i guess i should explain to make it easier.

HD companies advertise in gigabits (Gb - small b, take note). 8 bits to one byte.

OS's calculate in terms of gigabytes (GB - notice the large B?)

if a HD says 500Gb, its 500gigabits, or roughly 465.8gigabytes. same case with your HD, 320gigabits = 297.77gigabytes.

hope that makes sense.

my wife made it home before it was delivered, so she signed for it! oh i love it!

oh thats awsome!! extremely jealous haha! enjoy!

On Tuesday I ordered a 15" MBP with the 3.06GHz C2D processor and the 7200rpm/500Gb HD. Estimated Arrival is Monday. Can't freaking wait. :D

First mac of my own, but I've prior experience messing about with one of my teacher's Macbooks (the black one from ages ago). This one is a graduation gift from my grandparents. Yay for no more Vista for a long time (read: as long as I can avoid it.)

Oh, I shall. :D Lots of time in Garageband and iMovie, I believe. (Now I'll finally be able to figure them out properly instead of messing around in them for about 3 minutes.)

Alright, I'll search around for 6.0. :)

I do, actually. One fairly well that I don't have access to at the moment (and I won't until I get enough money to get one, and seeing as I'm going into college, that'll be a while...) (saxophone, specifically tenor). I'm working on learning guitar and piano (which makes me like GB even better because it's got lessons in it (not sure how much they'll help, but every little bit does...). That's about it so far, but I'd LOVE to learn drums, bagpipes, and a bit of violin one day.

i play drums myself (incase you hadnt noticed haha) - i find it easy to do, just gotta get into your own groove and not try to be like everyone else. same as everything i guess.

Yeah, I'm still toying with the violin idea...lol

Haha. Like, I can kinda get a beat going (minus the bass...my feet aren't all that coordinated yet...and it's strange going into Guitar Center to kind of practice on the electronic kits....that and hi-hats are a bit weird to me...there's a whole range of open-ness vs. just being open or just being closed....) But maybe I'll find someone to teach me/give me pointers next year. lol I'd definitely have to say I have influences as far as how I'd like to drum...namely Roger Taylor from Queen and Nick Mason from Pink Floyd...so...yeah.

oh there is SO much more to it then what it looks like, there are many many things to think about even when just playing by yourself.. let alone playing with a band. those are some good influences (not my area though), definately a great group of bands to start playing along to and it will help you find your area :)

id be glad to give ya some tips if you need them..

let us know how you like the keyboard on your MBP, im not really that keen on the seperated key idea...seems wierd.

alright. I'm open to tips! :)

And of course. Heck, the MBP will also have my first webcam (I know, that's kinda sad...or at least I think so....) so plan on seeing a review of the machine maybe that saturday or so on youtube. That's another bonus. More youtube vids. :D (Oh, and my youtube name is the same as here...and everywhere else....kinda wanna change names, but don't want to for continuity's sake...lol)
