What's the general consensus regarding the two makes of displays for the MBP? I hear different things about LG & Samsung, about which one has more issues and which one is the one to cross your fingers for when making your purchase. So I don't know what the definitive answer is. I'd just like a dependable screen that doesn't yellow and ghost as I continue to use it.

I'm going to be purchasing a refurbished October 2013 MBP (this guy right here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/F...-23ghz-quad-core-intel-i7-with-retina-display) this week and am wondering if I'm more prone to getting a problematic display because I'm ordering a refurbished unit rather than a new one.

My refurbished June 2012 rMBP has an LG display. I've had it for right at six months and it's fine. I wouldn't worry about it. You're getting a very good computer at $400 off the new price with a one year warranty. If there is a problem with the screen, it will probably show up before the warranty is out.

Bought one myself recently and ran the pattern tests and no yellowing that i can discern. So far, so good. LG display I believe. Not exactly sure, but I have a A019(LG??) screen. If you get one faulty, just exchange it. If you're spending over 2k for a laptop, make sure it's good.

I think I'm going to order the 15" 16/512gb high end beast. Should I pull the trigger?

Got my new rMBP and already almost locked myself out twice! I entered my password twice as you do when you set up for the first time then at the log in screen I entered it to log in, it logged me in no drama. Played around for awhile then put it to sleep. Came back a few hours later and entered my password and it wouldn't work, tried multiple times and even tried some passwords I'd used for keychain just in case I'd changed it without realising but no luck. Tried the original password again then it logged me in  I went straight to account management and changed my password, this time I was extremely careful when I input my new password (usually I touch type but I carefully pressed each key one at a time and no caps) obviously I entered it twice to confirm and again had issues with my original password...after multiple attempts entering the same password it worked :confused: Then when I went to log in with my new password it didn't work again! This time no matter what. Fortunately it's really easy to change the admin password without knowing it :p third time lucky. So far it seems to be remembering my new new new password.
Aside from that it's great! I was a little worried about things that could go wrong after reading about dramas other people have had with issues but glad to say I received a great machine :)

If there were no drama, there may be no forum or at least a lot fewer posts and members. ;)

Congrats on your new machine.

After a couple weeks of working the Mrs and getting her to bump a little at a time, I just bought my first Macbook Retina! 2.6ghz 16gb ram 512ssd.13" Returbished. Now the wait begins! I am so looking forward to this machine!

Just got my rMBP (the 2012 one), and even with 10.9.2 I am still sometimes seeing lag on the UI, especially if I have video running in Safari tab, and then swipe to another desktop. I was wondering if others still have such issues (although they are really minor, compared to previous OS), or is it just because of my old HD 4000 :D ?

Just ordered a maxed out BTO 15-inch rMBP to replace my early 2013 model that I'm passing on to a daughter. It's one year birthday was last week and it never had an issue. Ran near 70-80C for much of that time.

Hoping the transcode speed is noticeably improved and I get a screen as good as the LG SA2. Delivery estimate is April 3-7.

New:
• 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7 (Crystal Well), Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
• 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
• 1TB PCIe-based Flash Storage

Old:
• 2.8GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
• 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
• 768GB Flash Storage

------------------------
Shipped from China on 28th

Delivered Boston area April 3
SJE1 Screen
SM1024F SSD

Set up and first impression is that it feels a bit snappier, that PCE SDD storage is insanely fast (Black Magic 1GB/s), wireless is noticeably snappier (I am using a current Time Capsule and the Time Machine backup is quicker). Transcoding and like processing is just a bit quicker, noticeable but perhaps not that significant. Disk intensive process are much more responsive. The LG screen is perfect. Runs a tad cooler to the touch but the fans spin faster (6000 rpm vs 4000rpm according to iStat). Took me awhile to adjust to the system settings preference differences. All the apps seem to be behaving.

Seems like a waste of money to me. The processor performance will not be noticeable. :roll eyes: Unless you were selling it to your daughter, I don't see why one would waste that much money. Hell my 2010 MacBook Pro 13" (2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 750GB HDD) runs fine and handles demanding apps with not much hesitation. Compared to your 'old' machine, mine is a turd.

Picked up a late 2013 rMBP from the local Apple Store in Friday. Even though the website claimed they did not have the 2.6/16/1TB model on hand, when I asked the store about availability, they had ten of them on hand. When I got my prior Mac, the same thing happened. So far, I'm loving the machine, just annoyed by the issues with installing Windows 8.1 on it.

These pages indicate a ~10% performance increase for my use:

I hear yah about the $$/worth issue. Is any Mac laptop worth it? I wouldn't have upgraded now, but we have to replace a stolen rMBP13.

Now That I ordered one, new updates will be announce in about two-three weeks :)

What is the use of the cloth for the screen?
Wiping or put it between the screen and keyboard?

bought a macbook pro today retinal i5/256/8gb/intel 5100 and had it exchanged 3 times within the hour around neighboring stores because i wanted the samsung ssd and not the dookie sandisk one. so it was 4th time the charm just hopping it doesnt have image retention

Is there any way to see the model number of my mbp?
Either with mac 'utilities'/applications or with a third-party application.

Just pulled the trigger on the late-2013 15" rMBP 2.3GHz/16GB/1TB/GT750M, upgrading from a late-2011 MBA 1.7GHz i5/4GB/256GB SSD.

In the middle of studying for the USMLE Step 1 and convinced myself that the 2" of screen real-estate, dedicated graphics card and 1TB storage space will get me the score I want. Because that's obviously how things work

I'll miss the weight and portability of the MBA but I've been itching to return to the 15" for a while. My iPad mini will do for those days when I want to keep things light.

Yay, my rMBP is here

Ok, totally random post with no point except to be all excited my rMBP arrived (technically 2 days early since they are claiming now April 4th since at least yesterday, but originally they were claiming today. So is it early or on time then?).

Now I get to go pick it up, whoot! Oh, should I use up the battery on it before charging it or should I just plug it in? Is there anything I need to do with a new battery these days (I'm a little old fashioned and still remember when they wanted you to use up the battery three times fully before using it like normal).

(and then the pain of getting all my information over on it. I suppose I should list my old macbook on craigslist too, no point in three laptops. I just tend to have a habit of never getting aroudn to getting rid of the old computer.... I have a Mac G4 400 Mhz as well as a Windows machine that has been gutted and redone at least once (was originally a gateway) serving as my bedside stand, my old Mac Performa (yes, I still have that thing, doesn't work though), and my macbook and my macbook pro (which replaced the macbook and this one will replace the Pro. I'll justify keeping this one as a backup, heh).

Oh, and only the performa of those doesn't work (The windows machine I think does but right now it has no OS on it, so I guess it's not even a windows machine. But its last hardware was older than the macbook so not sure what it's good for these days besides getting Flight Simulator 2000 on it which was what it originally was gutted and rebuilt for).

Why are you posting here? Go pick it up!!!

Seriously though, enjoy the new machine!!

I did now ;). It's getting the migration assistant treatment ATM (so I'm still using my old Mac). I already forgot it didn't come with a disc drive and was looking at the fact they changed the power button and thinking, "Oh, I guess it's a multi function button with eject as well." And then at some point realizing, oh wait, no disc drive to eject (I'm sick and my head's a little muddled, cut me some slack).
