Just had an update about my order and it should be with me on the 22nd according to Apple. But I looked on the UPS website to track it there and this came up:

INCHEON,
KR 19/06/2009 10:46 DEPARTURE SCAN
19/06/2009 7:34 ARRIVAL SCAN

KOELN (COLOGNE),
DE 19/06/2009 0:16 PACKAGE DATA PROCESSED BY BROKERAGE. WAITING FOR CLEARANCE / RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY. NOW IN-TRANSIT FOR DELIVERY

SHANGHAI,
CN 19/06/2009 4:50 DEPARTURE SCAN

KOELN (COLOGNE),
DE 18/06/2009 19:04 PACKAGE DATA PROCESSED BY BROKERAGE. WAITING FOR CLEARANCE

SHANGHAI,
CN 19/06/2009 0:08 EXPORT SCAN

SHANGHAI,
CN 18/06/2009 23:57 HUB SCAN
18/06/2009 17:30 ORIGIN SCAN
CN 18/06/2009 7:05 BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

So looking at the it started in China then went to Germany, back to China, back to Germany and is now in South Korea? What the hell? Anyone have any ideas?

I live in the UK, mine was sent with UPS and yours is going through the same countries as me. Your package has not got to germany yet, its just a clearance check before it goes to germany. Now your package has left Incheon, it will go to germany, with mine it went to poland, then germany, then the UK.

I have that exact same desk! It was like an inch or two too short to fit a 24 imac where the monitor should go. :) I am still anxiously awaiting my first mac, 17" MBP. Still not shipped :(

I actually have a 24" Dell 2407FPW in that spot, and it barely fits. :)

The battery life on this computer is absolutely mind-blowing. I'm lucky if I get 1.5 hours out of my year old Compaq notebook. Here's a screenshot of the % of battery and time 'til 0%.

I just completed my first purchase of a Mac; in this case, a 2.26Ghz 13" MacBook Pro.

I purchased it through the Apple EPP (Employee Purchase Program) website of which my company is a member. Only a 6% discount but a discount is a discount.

Worked out to $1268 + Tax and California Recycle Fee which includes an upgrade to 4Gb of RAM and a 250Gb hard drive. As I'm headed from San Francisco to Phoenix on business tomorrow, I figure it should arrive only a few days after my return.

Although I've had an iPhone 3G since debut day, this is my first attempt to go from a PC to a Mac. I've tried MacBooks and MacBook Pros at several stores a number of times and the operating system seemed quite alien to me. However, my experience with the iPhone (except of course for AT&T) really made me excited for a full experience with the Mac.

I looked at a number of other Notebooks. Some of my favorites included Acer Aspire 3935, Lenovo U330, Samsung X460, and MSI X340 (sort of a MacBook Air clone made of plastic). However, they all seemed to lack something that sort of made me think that they didn't really want to sell me a PC -- poor construction, weird colors, short battery life or very expensive for only decent performance.

The MacBook Pro definitely had it with it's simple, modern styling, solid aluminum construction, full glass screen, and excellent performance. Plus it was the only reasonably priced laptop with a slot-loading DVD drive.

Wish me luck!

delayed for a month and a half? wtf?

I just got this e-mail from Apple. I ordered my macbook pro 13.3" on Tuesday night this week.

Due to an unexpected delay, we now anticipate shipping the following
item(s) as follows:

MBP 13.3/2.26/2X2GB/320/SD-USA
Ships by Aug 3
Delivers by Aug 6

We regret any inconvenience this delay may cause.

A MONTH AND A HALF?!? they're about to get an earful from me.

was yours a basic model or custom upgrade?

I just got off the phone with someone at Apple and this is the reason: http://www.earthweek.com/2009/ew090619/ew090619d.html

A volcano is apparently grounding all their cargo shipments right now so they're giving the month and a half delay as an estimate (which is absolutely ridiculous).

A freaking volcano is delaying my MBP. Just when you thought you've heard it all....

It's a CTO 17".
So does that mean my MBP will be stuck in Alaska?

I'd think if you already are in Alaska, that you're fine. It's the Shanghai to Anchorage part that I think is disrupted.

But looking back a few pages, this thing erupted on June 15th or whenever, and people have had their tracking list flights from China to Alaska on the 17th 18th and 19th, so wtf Apple?

Right, that was a stupid question :p I hope mine is en route to Anchorage, since CTO machines cannot be cancelled under most circumstances.

Can you cancel your order now and buy it at an Apple store instead?

well, since I bought the ipod touch and printer for the rebate purposes I can only downgrade to a base model and it would ship from PA to NJ overnight. I'm going to give it a couple days anyway since I don't need the mbp immediately.

I really don't think it's going to be a delay until August if the issue is this volcano. Maybe a week or two longer, but not 7 weeks.

What country did you order from? I ordered mine on wednesday night from toronto, canada. I BETTER not have this problem, because I need the MBP to test my iPhone apps on an actual device!!

Wife wasn't happy with her "always going to repair" MBP4,1 and finally agreed to get a new one.

After some going back and forth on whether to get the prev gen or current gen, went to the nearest Apple retail store and picked up the current gen $1999 model with DVI adaptor. EPP discount saved me a good chunk which means I did not pay the 6% tax and saved a few bucks on top of that. My wife figured she isn't gonna miss the ExpressCard at all and she doesn't understand SATA link speeds anyway :)

Battery shows 7:21 remaining after the first full charge - which is impressive to say the least. But it is not that great if you use it continuously - what seems to have improved is it is now more efficient when idle. So if you have a typical web surfing type of workload (not uncommon) you will get way more out of the battery. On the other hand using skype for video call drains battery as fast as it would on the old ones.

So far so good - quiet all the times and doesn't seem to get warm even after extensive use.

PC guy just bought MacBook pro

Wow, after 20+years becoming a moderately advanced PC guy... I am way impressed with my new MacBook Pro. I caved in to a Mac after coveting my iPhone the last few months. Talk about easy, but powerful! Who knew? :D

Just ordered a 15" High-End MacBook Pro 3.06GHz with a 500GB 7200RPM drive. Should be a great machine for Final Cut Pro and college in general. It should be here sometime next week, I can't wait. This is my first new Mac in five years, and I need it. My eMac and iBook are on their last legs. Plus, I am getting an iPod Classic next week too, as a graduation present.
I'll post whether it has Sata 1.5gb's or 3gbs and some xbench/geekbench scores when I get it. I haven't seen any 3.06GHz reviews yet.

Late posting, as I've been managing a few projects the last few days, but I wanted to write in to say that I welcomed into the world my new 17" MBP with CTO 3.06 and anti-glare screen at 12:31 pm on Thursday, June 18, 2009.

She is beautiful. :)

The only complication I ran into was with my installation of Windows Vista (Bootcamp). I'm currently working toward my private pilot's license, and spend quite a few hours with Microsoft Flight Simulator X, which requires Windows (and screams on this new MBP, with graphics maxed out at Ultra High). I followed the directions for installing Bootcamp; however, I installed the Windows drivers off the original Leopard DVD (and then updated to the BC 2.1 drivers) but wireless, multi-touch trackpad, and a host of other devices didn't work. What I discovered (off an Apple discussion board) is that you must install the Windows drivers off the Install DVD that comes with the MBP, and not the original Leopard DVD.

So my complete install of Bootcamp went like this (after deleting the partition and starting over):

Create new partition (Bootcamp assistant).
Insert Vista install disc, restart.
Install Windows Vista then restart.
Insert OS Install DVD that came with MBP.
Install Windows drivers from Install DVD (you must choose "Explore" in order to access the Bootcamp folder, double clicking on the disk initiates the OS X Remote Install for MacBook Air), restart.
Proceed normally with setting up wireless network, monitor calibration, etc. then update software, etc.

Aside from that snafu, the experience so far has been brilliant. :)
