Hi thanks to everyone's advice here on purchasing a new rmbp I made sure to order the max ram and flash drive as they can't be updated later, I went with the i5 cpu instead of the i7 and bought a refurbished one from Apple on the advice of people here.

I received the notebook late last week, I am very happy with the notebook and to my surprise they sent me an i7 cpu :) so it does pay to buy a refurbished notebook you save money and get free upgrades :)

Btw I bought the rmbp 13" 16gb ram, 1TB flash drive and it came with the i7 instead of the i5 that I ordered.

How did you get a i7 instead of a i5?

Thinking of ordering a rMBP 13" 2014 model right now (would be my first Mac ever, although i have a 6+/rMini). Reading this thread about the screen clearcoat fading on the 2013 model makes me scared, was this fixed in 2014 model? Any known issues with 2014 model??? I don't need it immediately so i can also wait for 2015 if major changes are coming. Any advice?

i'm currently working on a late 2009 imac. after much research and deliberation i decided the wait for broadwell wasn't worth it, so today i pulled the trigger on a maxed out 15" rmbp with logic pre-installed. can't wait to get stuck into it.

I finally pulled the trigger on a refurb 2014 13" rMBP (2.6/8/256) since I need it now. I was trying to wait until the Broadwell refresh, but who knows when that will come. The Broadwell's will only have about a 10-20% performance increase, and with buying the refurb I saved $230. The one I bought is more than I need (and better specs than a MPA) :D

EDIT: Just returned, waiting for March 9...12" Retina Air

I just ordered a refurbished 2013 15" MBPr 2GHz i7 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM. I decided to have it shipped to one of the Apple Stores in Portland to avoid sales tax. I'm looking forward to moving up to the bigger screen and flash storage.

After nearly a week with this model, I don't regret spending nearly $1,500 for an essentially new computer. I also don't regret not spending $200-500 more for 16GB of RAM and/or 750M. I'll upgrade again when 8GB isn't enough for me anymore.

Ordered a 13.3" Mid 2014 MacBook Pro went with 16GB of Ram and 256 GB ssd, so excited as this will be my first Mac computer.

I got a refurbished macbook pro last week too. I also ordered an i5 and it shipped with an i7! I was really happy about that lol :D

I configured a 13" rmbp with 16gb ram and a 512 ssd. Not sure if we just got lucky or they're clearing out those i7s with the new models coming in.

BTW, I shopped around and read/watched reviews for awhile. I was settled on a 16gb/256, but figured the 512 would be better for me as I don't upgrade all that often

I was considering a refurb, mac with education discount, or B&Hphoto to avoid tax. With the 256 model, a brand new model at B&H was only about 70 more compared to a refurb, but when I started upgrading more, the price difference increased as well. Also was considering waiting for the new model with broadwell and possibly touchscreen?....but 5-6 months was too long of a wait.

Glad I went with the refurb for that free i7 though lol. I had thought that the case would only be replaced if there was damage, but a rep mentioned that the case and screen is replaced regardless so that settled my decision. Only thing is that we lose maybe an hour of battery compared to the i5

It was a nice surprise to get the i7 and you get the same warranty as a new one so for me it was a good choice buy a refurbished system.

Wtg on the free upgrade!

I picked up a mid-2012 rMBP from the Apple Refurbished store a couple weeks ago. This is the 2.3GHz i7, NVIDIA 650M, 256GB SSD, and 8GB RAM (though I won the lottery and got a bump up to 16GB!), It was a little over $1600. I'd had good luck with refurbs previously, and didn't think I'd have any issues. As it turns out, the system I received was making a high pitch noise, which I incorrectly thought was a fan. I brought it in to the Genius Bar and upon closer inspection, they determined the logic board needed replacement (a capacitor was going). They've had the rMBP since Feb 13. Of course as we now know, there's also likely a recall on that model rMBP (as of a few days ago). I called them the other day to inquire if the replacement logic board would include a fix for the recall or not, and they weren't sure.

So now Apple just contacted me to let me know the replacement logic board they ordered and installed has also failed their in-house tests. BUT they're now offering to outright swap my 2012 15" rMBP (with NVIDIA 650M) for a brand new 2015 15" rMBP (with Intel Iris Pro graphics). All other specs (CPU, HDD, RAM, etc) are the same. Is this a good trade?

Just received my Refurbished late 2013 15.4-inch rMBP and was pretty much excited about it :)

Ive booked an appointment with Apple geniuses beginning of next week as it turns out that : 1-the right speaker rattles and pops when listening to anything above 50% volume. 2-the left half of the display is more yellowish than the other (even after calibration).

Hopefully it gets fixed in a timely manner!! or I might just ask for a refund and get another one.

My refurbished base mid 2014 15" rMbp arrived this afternoon and it seems perfect. It had Yosemite 10.10.0 on so I've updated it to 10.10.2 and it seems to be running fine. Coming from 4Gb memory and a slow hard drive, the 16Gb Ram and SSD are fantastic. The loading times of the apps is astonishing, and the screen is simply gorgeous.

I know that Broadwell upgrades might be round the corner, but I couldn't hold out any longer, and saving 15% by getting a refurb makes up for that I think.

Just ordered a rMBP 15" 2.8GHz 16Gb 1Tb.

Can't wait for it to arrive should be sometime late next week.

Same here. I ordered last week and have received a 2014 rMBP 2.8 16gb 1 T.
It has LG screen and is rich and beautiful.
LG have really improved their screen.

Just bought a 15 inch 2014 rmbp with 512SSD with 750m! Upgraded from 2013 mbair with i7 & 8GB. I couldn't wait any longer the Air was getting SLOW...

I have an 11" mid-2012 MacBook Air w/ 4GB and an i5. I'm trying to hold out for Skylake 13" rMBPs. But it is very tempting to pull the trigger now. The Air is still functional, it is just starting to 'feel' old.

Lots of people fall into the 'I want to hold out for the new one' problem, unless there's an immiment release you should just go ahead and buy what you're looking at once it arrives you'll be happy and you wont give two craps about a new release aslong as your perfectly happy with what you have.

it's here and it's oh so lovely. seriously can't believe how thin the damn thing is.

You're right. As such I just ordered a 13" rMBP w/ 3GHz i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD.

How can you tell which screen you have? And what's the difference on yours and others?
