aside from the obvious of putting a wallpaper on it, more obvious: put Mavericks on it :D

why do most on this forum prefer Mavericks?

I can't speak for anyone else's preference, but I much prefer the look of OS X up until Yosemite, it looks too tonka toy to me on 10.10. I can't take it seriously.

And its just buggy in my experience. I don't want to give it another try, I'll wait until its near its end of life or maybe next OS but I bought this machine specifically so I could have Mavericks on it in case all the next OSes are crap.

Yep, the $1149 one. So far loving it! Got a Samsung SSD too, and the screen looks really nice upon the first 30 minutes of playing with it.

Pristine condition too, as I had hoped/expected.

Time will tell what I do with my Macbook air 2011 13"

I could have used a friend's 15% on the $1499 model that 8/256 also that would have made it about $145 or so more, but I don't know that I trust Force Touch to hold up well over time (years). Opting out of AC this time and relying on American Express extending a second year of warranty.

And Yosemite onward only machine was a deal breaker. Like I said, I love Mavericks. And to me, macs like all devices are a combo of hardware and software sweetness.

Thanks! I'd be very interested in seeing how hot it gets from relatively intensive games like that. I'd also appreciate anyone else's testimonies.

Well, I run Guildwars 2 on my 2015 rMBP just to try it. It is really fluid, between 20/40 fps depending on the areas and stuff. I would be glad to give further informations if someone is interested.

For the heat/noise, still in comparison to my late 2011 mbp, in intensive usage the computer is cooler (I could keep it on my lap, wasn't able to do that with my old mbp when playing), but unfortunately the vent gets noisy (would say the same as my old mbp). It is exactly what I expected, but for someone who wants to do heavy stuff in perfect silence... no it is not possible, stop dreaming :D

I had a 10.9.4 dmg lying around and created a bootable recoverable drive

Did yours come installed with Yosemite? I'm probably going to stick with Mavericks as well and have a bootable disk ready for tomorrow when my 2014 refurb shows up.
I'm wondering if to restore from my TimeMachine or to just install everything fresh. Recommendations?

Id do fresh. New computer why not. Mine came with Yosemite

My BTO just shipped. Arriving Wednesday....that is after paying the $14 for expedited shipping. I thought it would be 2-3 business days. I guess we are going by the time in China? :(

I think rMBP users can give you more insights on that, what I see in comparison to my old 2011 MBP is that the cooling system looks much improved (air intake on the sides). Noise = None.

Does that mean it is finally possible to watch youtube/vimeo videos or even scrolling webpages without fans kicking in at 6200 rpm with CPU temperatures approaching 85-95°C?

I'm also coming from a early 2011 15" MBP .
My rMBP should be arriving on Tuesday. If it's too noisy I'll return it and get the new Macbook instead.

I don't get it

I love yosemite it looks much cleaner on the retina screen and it has some features not available on Mavericks it's also pretty stable now after the last update, no issues here.

13" rMBP Shipped

After just over 24hrs, my 13" rMBP 256 GB shipped from China. The estimated delivery date is one day earlier than start of the original window when I ordered the rMBP.

My window was 17-19. Fedex is saying the 18. I think the window was accounting for processing and build time as well though. Where are you located? I'm in the Midwest.

So people who don't mind or like Yosemite are now "casual users" I find that insulting.

Who are you, Tim Cook? Take your riled up emotions elsewhere,

Most casual users probably (and again, probably being the main word and speculative to be certain-- which I thought would be alright on a RUMOR based site) prefer Yosemite, but that's not to say all of the Yosemite install base is composed of casual users. Don't you understand subtleties of the English language?

Most dogs prefer water to milk, does that mean you're calling me a dog because I like water as well? I am thadoggfather, but certainly not a canine.
