I just got the $1599 2014 Macbook pro 15" from B&H as well. Should I go ahead and immediately upgrade it to El Capitan since I have no data on it. If yes, do a clean install or an upgrade ?

Seems to be a lot of people unhappy with El Capitan though so I'm thinking maybe it's better to stay on Yosemite.

that's hysterical, really. SO many people whined and complained about yosemite. whatever issues people have with el capitan...it's a very new OS; give it a year, then see how it compares. meanwhile, for me, 10.11 is, so far, exceptional. stable, efficient, fast on my new macbook pro. NO one is dragging me back to yosemite (which btw, was fine too)... :D

Exactly my point, give it a year then upgrade? :) Is there any compelling reason to upgrade to el captain over yosemite ?

imho, el capitan is lighter, more stable (all, of course, so far). better GUI, better graphics functionality. really, it's an upgrade to yosemite, with a lot of 'under the hood' fixes. what's not to love?

I got in on that mid-2014 15" deal as well ^_^ The screen is amazing!

One thing I found really amusing was the box has a sticker on it with a date of august 2015. Oh, and according to coconut battery it was built in August. Didn't apple discontinue these in March? lol :D

Coming from a MacBook Air 13" here, and I've had a 2011 and 2013:
Screen is awesome! Speakers are awesome! The battery life takes me back to the days when I had a powerbook haha. Even if Wakfu isn't graphically intensive, the GPU comes on and brings the battery life down to 4 hours.

Compared to the macbook air it's like a car with a v8 vs a hybrid. It's so fast!

You convinced me to upgrade :) thanks!

ok, but don't blame me if you're not happy. everything's relative; some people prefer one OS version over the other, there are no absolutes. what i want most (and am getting): speed, stability. ease. and mostly, i just want my APPS to run well (and they're doing that). :D

OK, now I'm triple guessing my decision to pass up the 15" '14 mbp. I found some comments suggesting a 15" was less than airplane tray friendly, and that battery life is about half that of the mba. Not that 6+ hours of battery life is anything to sneeze at.

The comp is still available for $200 above the cyber monday price point, but still a pretty good value.

It looks like I'll just have to wait it out until february or so to see if a new mbp arrives.

Why not pick up a 13" MPB? It's a way better buy if you don't need a quad-core and larger screen.

That's the plan. I'm waiting for the '16 models to be announced so the '15's will be bumped down in price.

And yeah, the battery life is far better on the 13" models.

To be honest, I would be thrilled to see a 14" edge to edge display on the revised mba's or mbp's.

Just recieved my Refurbished 13inch i5 Retina Macbook Pro Early 2015 with 8gb Ram and 256gb ssd. So far it is working perfectly and looks brand new as well.
The only thing is that the keyboard keys rattle slightly when you shake the Mac side to side and when you lightly tap them without pushing down they also seem a bit loose, rattly and make quite a lot of noise compared to my previous Dell. Could someone please tell me if this is normal? It isn't that big of a deal but can be a bit annoying.
I downloaded Battery Health and it says that my battery has only had 1 cycle and was made 1.7 months ago which isn't too bad :). The battery health is 101% also!

Not bad, did the bhphoto deal only at $1799 vs $1599.. missed that one. Still a great deal for 512gb ssd and dGPU. I have a 4k display so it really helps on performance. Plan to use this as my main machine. It was brand new with a recent manufacture date, samsung display.

Hey guys. Just got a MacBook Pro early 2011 15-inch off eBay. Was listed as for parts only $399 but showed the system running. Seller had it listed saying "Very slow, battery dead, possible water damage."

Well, bought a new battery (~30 bucks), and bam, works full speed. Yay for me.

Only thing is that the memory bank1 slot is faulty, it won't accept any memory thrown into it so I'm stuck running in single channel mode but went ahead and bought an 8GB stick and waiting on my SSD.

I got a mid-2015 model last month, coconut battery says mine was built July 20th, so your mid-2014 model is technically newer than mine.

I just bought a new rMBP mid-2015 15" with 2.2ghz/252GB/16GB at the Apple store with a student discount for AUD2956. I was using my 13" MackBook Air mid-2011 prior to purchase and I really needed a upgrade, it was depressing checking in everyday for any news about rMBP with Skylake. I must say, I am just amazed at the quality difference!

I may upgrade to get the rMBP 15" with m370x but I just wanted to try this one out since I have til the 7th January 2016 to change my mind! Apple has extended their change of mind return policy so purchases from 1st Nov to 25th Dec can be returned before 7th of January. So I haven't made a 100% financial commitment just yet, incase I wish to upgrade or refund for Skylake if it comes out in Q1 2016. However, I am very content with my current purchase.

Got one of these out of the Refurb Store a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't be more delighted.

The flash drive is amazingly quick when compared to the SSD in my 2010 MacBook Pro 15" that I got rid of.

Got rid of that 15" MacBook, and the 13" is so very useful, I find myself considering dumping my iPad Air 2 as well.

I just took the plunge on a Mid 2015 2.2 GHz 15.4 inch model.
I really wanted to wait for the eventual Skylake refresh, but I know I'll be really really happy with this one, and it was 450£ off my country's retail price, so I'll be fine.

Can't wait! :)

I have a Macbook Pro mid 2012, 15 inch. My daughter just took it over with her Minecraft and now, I'm looking for another 15. Think I will go refurbish this time and save me some money. This thread is awesome. Thanks everyone for the review!

Another noob, gotta new rMBP 13" 2.7 i5/256gb/8gb. Apple matched BB price - $150 off. My first Mac. Didn't wanna wait, no regrets.

I had rMBP 13, mid 2014 256gb ssd. Sold it for about 950$. Last week I've purchased for about 1200$ rMBP 14, late 2013, dGPU version. And of course, no regrets at all. I change my macs way to often, but I'm gonna try to stick to this one for at least two years. Waiting for skylake and hopefully redesigned version, but revision two :)

My first Mac.
A big difference between Apple and Windows for me was how long it takes for me to feel like I need an upgrade.

With the Windows machines, it seemed to be that I was upgrading almost every year to get some big new improvement.

Perhaps I just coincidentally grew up at the same time or something, but the Macbook Pro that I just bought replaced a five year old Macbook Pro. 2010-2015 would have been unthinkable with the Windows machines.

And my iMac is still a 2010 model, and I'm typing on it right now. 32 GB of RAM, OS X plus two more virtual machines running at the same time, and I don't see any need to change it yet!

:)
