ordered my 17" yesterday, glossy, 3.06GHz, 8GB RAM, 500GB 7200RPM, sata-II :)p). Can't wait to put my hands on this one. It's already taking too long for them to ship :D

Wow, nice configuration. Must be nice to be rich huh? That ram is not affordable for most of us.

just picked up a new 13" mbp

first impression, absolutely love it! the feel of the keyboard is amazing & everything seems to be exactly where it should. Only complaint to far is it's only got 2 USB ports however I think i can get over that.

the is my first Mac and coming from the PC world I know I'm in for a trip. So far i've been pulling my hair out moving my iTunes library and setting up my iPod and iPhone.....

moving all my contacts that I have in Outlook on my PC over as well, that's the next task and I'm not looking forward to it.

however, I absolutely love the layout of the OS on this thing, everything is just so much more user-friendly.

if any one has got any tips or tricks, anything I should look to download for it, feel free to toss them out there - I'm excited to get this thing up and running........

Congrats.
Those look like pretty mean specs. you got there :D
I ordered my bone stock b/c :
1. I wanted to get it sooner than later (received in 2 days with free shipping).
2. I am able to return it to my nearby Apple store if there was an issue, instead of having to send it back.

Going through the same dilemma! The 7200 RPM option adds 7 days to my shipping time! There's a lot of threads discussing HD upgrades to the 13" MBP and the consensus seems to be that the large capacity (500 GB) drives at 5400 perform just as well as their 7200 RPM counterparts.

What's the drive in the stock 17"? WIll the faster speed make a difference?

Congrats on your new Macbook, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

An easy way to move your Outlook contacts/calendar to your Macbook is to sign up for the 60 day free trial of MobileMe and to install the MobileMe control panel for windows onto your windows machine. Next you can set up the windows machine to sync to MobileMe.

Once that's done, it simple to setup your Macbook to sync with your Mobile Me account.

After everything is moved over, you can ride out the Mobile Me account for 60 days to see if you like it, or just cancel it.

Congratuations!!

Hmm.. You know, I've never thought the two USB slots to be a drag, nor have I worried about the lack of ports but I guess when you're coming from a laptop with more then three it does feel like a downgrade, right? Well don't worry about it, USB2 hubs are so cheap nowadays.

Moving the iTunes library should be the easierest thing, just drag and drop the entire directory from your existing PC to a USB storage device, then move the device to the Mac and move the directory again to the Music folder on your Mac. Once you run iTunes it should find the library file.

At worst, drop the media files into iTunes and it'll recreate a new library file... butt your personal playlist will be recreated. Other than that, it should be childs play!!

I'd imagine the prenium we pay isn't for the hardware, design but the cost of creating a intuitive user interface.

For a list of shortcuts, you can always ask the built in help menu for "shortcut".

When I switched from PC to Mac i just connected my iPhone and it asked if I wanted to copy my contacts from iPhone to Mac Contacts.

I'm pretty sure you can do that too. It's right in Itunes.

I've even read a few benchmarks on OWC with regards to some Photoshop tasks. Somehow there are instances that the 5400-rpm drive trash the 7200-rpm by a few seconds. Can't be sure how accurate their benchmarking results were.

After sitting in Shanghai for a day (it missed the time cutoff), my MBP has been listed as In Transit, expected on the 26th. However they don't list any location other than Shanghai. I am wondering if they are driving it around or if it is actually En Route to it's next stop, which I believe is Anchorage.

Greetings from Sweden!

Typing on my recently unboxed darling, she also happens to be my first :apple:! ^_^
About a month ago I decided to switch to mac to be able to check webdesigns on both osx and windows in as many browsers as possible, and now the dream has come true... well almost, I still have to set up bootcamp XP, parallels and install apps, but it sure feels nice!
It's not an over exitement kind of feeling... it's more a calm joy, you know? ... *putting indexfinger and thumb together and crossing legs chanting 'Ohmm'*. ^_^

I've had a really hard time deciding which macbook to get.. it went something like this:
* 2.4GHz UMB 13" ...'hmm, WWDC comming up, better wait' -->
* 2.53GHz UMBP 13" ...'naah, 1280x800 isn't big enough' -->
* 2.66GHz UMBP 15" to get 1440x900 and 9600M GT (though only 256MB video ram) ....'will they _ever_ get those 2.66 models in stock!! The 2.8 is already in for crying out loud!!' -->
* 2.8GHz UMBP 15", last night I finally decided on the 2.8GHz UMBP 15" to get the full 512MB v-ram, extra GHz since PS and Painter only have partial support for dual core, and also the 6MB L2 cache. There will be some 3D work done on this one as well, so the extra perfomance won't hurt.
Aaaanyway, first thing this morning I went and got it at the local store. 8D¨

MBP 15"
2.8GHz w. 6MB L2 cache
4GB
500GB
512MB video ram ^_^

I'm happy that the delivery of the 2.66 model to the store was slow, cause the 2.8 feels like a _much_ better choice for me!! What about that extra cash I had to spend? Who cares! I'm going to use this machine to work on and in 1-3 months it will be water under the bridge. :D

*the old win/pc me says to myself* Hmmm... what do you know, the grass actually DOES seem greener on this side! ^_^

Sorry all for rambling! I letting myself getting carried away by all this.

It has said "The airline has off-loaded packages" for 1 1/2 days!!! Why!? UPS says that there's an "exception" so it may take longer than expected?!?! Anyone else with this problem?!?!?

So I did my first full-on battery drain with my new 17" 3.06 CTO.

On the 9400M, I was able to surf the net, play music videos, and do light work on it for 8 hours and 40 minutes.

Currently System Profiler shows 1 cycle count and 13030 mAh.

Needless to say, I am pleasantly surprised to find that Apple's claims really are representative of reality. Anyone who's owned an Apple laptop for any amount of time knows all about that.

7200rpm is the speed of the HD, that doesn't mean it can access any faster. Access times is what counts on HD's. And many 5400s are faster than 7200s in this regard.

My new MBP 15 finally arrived. It was a pain for waiting. :)

First impression is not bad. The keyboard is a bit soft, but OK for me. I have been using all kinds of keyboard. This is not bad. But the glassy screen is really reflective. And I feel a bit eye strain after looking at it for a few minutes. Eye strain causes headache. Really hope there was a AG option for 15 incher.

Will install the necessary software to start using this new baby regularly.
