After almost a full year waiting on an updated MBPr, I found a great deal on ebay and made the leap.

I got a used MBPr 13' 2015 (force touch) top of the line: I7, 16gb RAM, 512gb SSD with 30 charge cycles, mint condition and 5 months remaining warranty for £1150. I believe it was a good deal and I figure it will last me at least 4 years.

Since it's my first mac, do you guys think it would be wise to buy an extended warranty from Apple? Is it worth it?

I think you should wait till next week for the new ones. For that price you can still probably land a base rMBP 13" (or just slightly more) and it would be worth it imo.

Even if you don't like them, it will only drive the prices down further of existing Macbooks.

Just bought a macbook pro 15'' 512gb 16gb ram wwooohoooo!! the power of this machine is insane!
I just did as well. Decided to use it at least for the upcoming year and let the new ones settle in. I usually buy the latest and greatest but not this time. Got $250 off and have a program on my CC that price matches any lower price up to two months out. Hoping to get even better price in the end

Just bought the 'skylake' MBP (maxed everything except storage, went 1T there). But have two weeks to decide if I should cancel. I'm in utter disbelief that they didn't use the 2016 chips.

I'm good.

Maxed-out the lower storage model. Have no need to for more than 256GB. I hope I don't regret it on read/write performance.

And now we wait! :D

It's in Portuguese. TL;DR: Top spec model only with GPU upgrade to Radeon Pro 460. And a USB-C to USB-A adapter. In classical silver, as I don't like Space Grey.

I wanted the 15" but... I don't know, I do like smaller laptops. No real reason why, but now that I'm not a full-time photographer and am just using this laptop to edit personal photos and play the Sims 4... why not? :)

Took the plunge and...

bought the 2015 15 inch model. £1,300 for that vs. > £2,500 for a similar spec new model...

Really looking forward to my first Retina MacBook Pro. I have the 12 inch MacBook, but the screen on that is a bit too small to really do it justice!

Changed my order to the non-touch bar model: 13" No Touch Bar/16GB/2.0Ghz i5/512SSD.

Pros for me:
  1. Still significantly faster and more capable than the 12" MacBook that I'm replacing, especially for VMs (a primary use case for me)
  2. Do not need super fast processor
  3. Still get TB3 + P3 Wide Color Gamut
  4. Should get better battery life - 15W processor + 54.5 watt-hour battery vs 28W processor + 49.2 watt-hour battery
  5. Save $300
  6. Get it next week
Cons for me:
  1. No touch bar
  2. Only two TB3/USB-C ports
Since this is my on-the-go portable replacing a 12" MacBook, I think it'll be a pretty decent upgrade and 50% more ports will be fantastic, especially since they're TB3. Looking forward to a nice docking setup to be released in the future, with potential for eGPU options.

I'm primarily worried about missing the touch bar...

I order the 13" Touch Bar MBP with i7 and 16 GB RAM But I need to wait 2-3 weeks until I can hold the beautiful peace of technology in my hands

Ordered a Silver 13" Touch Bar/3.1GHz i5/16GB RAM/256GB SSD

Wanted Space Grey, but it wore off on my iPhone 6 and my palms would probably wear it off the sides of the wrist rest even worse/faster. Wasn't going to pay $300 to get an i7 just for a clock bump (compared them on ARK, they're the same except for +200MHz base, +100MHz Turbo Boost), and for storage that's why I got a 535 240GB SSD and a USB 10Gb enclosure for $80. But without my iTunes library on it (my 2011 15" will soldier on for that) I shouldn't need much storage anyway.

So after my hype died down, I went outside. Decided to go for a drive. Got a haircut, came back, ate, pondered with a stress ball.

I ended up cancelling and getting this instead:

Mid-2015 Quad i7 / 16GB RAM / 512 SSD / 2GB R9 M370X

What ultimately made me change my mind was that I care more about whats inside that outside. My 17" pairs with 4 USB devices that I use but as you know, it only has 3 (2.0 as well). So with the new MBP? I'd have to get a hub... or 4 USB dongles... actually 3 USB + 1 Ethernet dongle...

But wait, I also dual screen. So... I'd need a hub with at least an HDMI port... or an HDMI dongle...

I read up about how none of the current USB hub offers are 100% compatible.

The more I thought about it, the less I cared for what it had to offer. I don't want the latest an the greatest, I just want a decent Quad processor (current is a dual i5), graphics will be a plus either way since right now I'm sitting on a 512MB 330M.

The refurbs got the 2 USB (the other two I can juggle, but beats trying to find more dongles or pay $200 for a hud), built in HDMI, still got the MagSafe... the hell am I getting a new MBP for, then? TouchBars cool, but it's not gonna break my habit of using a mouse (sorry, trackpad).

Pricing is about the same, but with the new MBP, I still have more **** to buy in order for it to me work for me and my job. The refurb? I'd need an Ethernet dongle at most. And thats it.

Hopefully, @WRONG , Apple has something for you this year.

So excited. The only thing giving me a bit of grief is that delivery date - Dec 2nd. Womp womp!

Very interesting. How is the performance of the new dedicated gpu vs the dedicated one on your 2015 15"?

Eh? I don't have a current 2015 15", I have a 2011 17".

My current is a 512MB 330M GT, the one I ordered is a 2GB R9 M370X.

The most I push the GPU is high graphical work in Illustrator, or high encoded MKVs.

The 2015 is what I just ordered.

Yeah, sorry for explanation. But I did mean the 2015 you just ordered. Did you look at any performance tests etc.? How will it (when it arrives) compare to this new one on the gpu side?

EDIT

Never mind, I just read this article: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/10/27/amd-radeon-pro-graphics-macbook-pro/

Have fun with your 2015, it seems like a smarter choice.

No, because as I mentioned I don't do anything to benefit from a 4GB 450. Hell, I don't even push my current 330GT that much. What I really push is the CPU which is dual core, which is why all I need is a modern day Quad (if I could have gotten this 17" in a Quad, I probably wouldn't be buying a new Mac just yet).

So the GPU doesnt concern me, and even this, I think the 2015 is a pretty good step up from my current. I also have a 512 SSD in already do having the same storage will be handy.

In case you want to know - I'm in interactive developer, so I work mostly in Sublime, Chrome, and Terminal. Photoshop & Illustrator also come into play, but I'm a console gamer and not a video editor/3D designer.
