I got mine yesterday (15" / i7 2.6GHz / 512GB) and ... just returned it. Waiting on a 1TB version, since I realised a little too late that the 512GB wasn't enough at all considering what I'll be doing. I have a 2015 rMBP i7 2.2Ghz / 512GB with is okay regarding the storage because I stopped working on any video related work for a while on this Mac.
Anyway, I'm in for another few days waiting on the "preparing for dispatch" message
It might even come while I'm on holidays.. we'll see !
At least during the few hours I had it, I could confirm I made the right choice regarding the CPU, it is a real bump from mine in every task I throw at it to test it. The Apple person I had to talk to for my return told me I should expect an earlier delivery from the actual estimated time and confirmed me it was already in "construction" since the payment was cleared. Hope he's right !!

Mine's just been dispatched! Was originally quoted delivery 6-8 August, now Apple are saying 31st July - Impressed.

Since you're in UK and me in France, I guess the hole process should take approximately the same time.

If i wanted to get a base model 13" with TouchBar, Apple.com has no money discount on it - just free Beats, right?
The price seems to be the same regardless if I choose EDUCATION or just looking at it normally through the store.

If you have an education discount, there is a money discount on it. You have to buy it through the education store.
Or call Apple and they can send you a quote with the discount applied, you then follow the email to make payment. Then you just send a copy of your student ID
Had this 15" for a couple days now and maybe I just haven't seen new laptops in a while, but HOT DAMN this display is amazing. Such beautiful colors and I really love the addition of TrueTone.
What did you upgrade from? The display has been the same since 2016 except for the True tone.
This is the first laptop I've owned in 5 years. Last one I owned was an HP.

My Mac is already "Preparing for dispatch" ! Seems to have been pretty quick to build.
Date of delivery is not updated yet. Fingers crossed for a delivery next week instead of August 7 to 9...
Would be the most logic way to deal with it indeed. I changed the keyboard (French to US) and the SSD (1TB), which may be a pretty common combination.
The customs in Shanghai seems to be the one step to take forever for something that should take no time since Apple sends out products from China all year long.
This step is shown in UPS tracking, right ?

Okay so just received a mail from Apple saying the Mac is shipped. But delivery dates are still "between the 7th and the 9th" and "At this time tracking information is not available for this shipment". Next step I should get a more precise delivery date !
EDIT : Tracking available.. Delivery scheduled the 1st of Augsut for Apple. UPS says "Order Processed: Ready for UPS"

UPS seems a little less "optimistic" on the delivery date generally speaking. For ex, mine is still scheduled the 1st for Apple but the 2nd for UPS. Which is not so great since I have nobody to sign for the package on the 2nd. I could have it delivered to my office, but not sure if this would delay the delivery.
Yours is still scheduled for the 31st ?
If someone has already changed the delivery address with UPS for a Mac and could share how it went ? I did it for goods in the past, and never went very well since they sometime send half of the information to the person in charge of the delivery (missing exact door of my apartment or access code if needed)
