I upgraded from the 2016 13 inch to the 2019 15 inch base model about a week ago. I absolutely hated the keyboard on my 2016 but I never experienced any keyboard issues. This 2019 keyboard is so much better to type on, I actually prefer it over the chicklet

I’ve been lurking these forums for the last 2 years, trying (and waiting) to figure out which Mac to replace my aging workhorses. Finally pulled the trigger and ordered this last week (arriving 7/23/19):

15-inch MacBook Pro - Space Gray
2.3GHz 8‑core 9th‑generation Intel Core i9 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.8GHz
32GB 2400MHz DDR4 memory
Radeon Pro Vega 20 with 4GB of HBM2 memory
1TB SSD storage
With AppleCare and free-
Beats Studio3 Wireless Over‑Ear Headphones - Matte Black

I used the Barclays deferred interest credit card and am going to pay roughly $225/month (for 18 months).

It’s replacing a MacPro mid 2010 and a 2012 MacBook Pro. Going to be using it for graphic design work, possible video editing work, and World of Warcraft ;-)

Probably a little overkill for my use case, but I wanted a little future proofing in case I land some side freelancing gigs, in the next year or so.

I plan on keeping this for at least 5 years. Praying for no horror stories.

Nervous and excited at the same time :)

Upgraded from our 2015 Macbook today. Picked up a 2019 SG 2.3/16/512/560x open box from Microcenter for 2175.99(!). Mint condition, could barely tell it was used. Was planning to wait for the rumored 16", but couldn't pass it up.

After some serious deliberation today I have ordered - MacBook Pro 13” 1.4 GHz Quad Core, 16GB RAM, 1TB. Colour - In Silver, I don’t think space grey ages well.

Really wasn’t sure on the storage aspect, 256GB/512GB/1TB. For years I had 256GB machines and carried externals alongside for files and VM’s, this resulted in always having a battery life hit, even with an external low power Samsung T5 SSD drive plugged in. The 512GB option offered something extra without really allowing too much extra head room, 1TB allows me to store a reasonable chunk of media on the machine too once I’ve converted it all from MP4 to HEVC.

Delivery date says 30 July. Hopefully that will drop a few days.

I ordered nearly the exact same machine as you! You'll love it for on-the-go video editing and daily driving too. Mine is the smaller SSD because my clients (chain of custody) own the content so to keep myself out of "trouble", all working files are done on external. Most of the time, I buy an X5 (time and materials, FTW) and give it to them with all assets.

I tried playing a few games on it and ... well.... yeah. Great for games like CIV (yeah, I'm old)... but fast paced games etc...Especially Fortnite... just no luck unless you are on Medium graphics... so, my christmas list is now a nice eGPU and one of those sexy 240htz monitors when they drop in price.

Congrats, it's an AWESOME machine... I love the keyboard change... because I am a fast typist relatively and an older fart, I don't need key travel...

Awesome, I was starting to think I was making a bad decision. 2nd most expensive computer I ever bought. The 2010 MacPro being the most.

Oh and I just got an email that it just arrived at my local Apple Store. So exactly a week.

Btw, I’m an old fart to lol I’m about to turn 50. Lol

my new base model 2019 MBP 13" came in through Apple. Returning my 2019 MBA back to Best Buy.

Good luck with that. Best Buy will fight you on that return, I guarantee it. Go with a good story, Mr. Cosmo, or they'll bend you over.

I ordered my very first macbook. It's the refreshed baseline 13" 256gb version in space grey. Got quite a good deal on it from an education reseller at £1215 with 4yr warranty. Hopefully, it'll arrive in the next few days. However, I'm getting very paranoid over stuff I've read online about the space grey finish, like people saying it's not as durable as the silver, etc. Wondering if I should call them up and ask to change it up for a silver one.

Early last week I ordered a new 2019 MacBook Pro 15” with 2.3GHz 512GB and the 560X. It replaces my 2014 MacBook Pro 15” with 2.5GHz 512GB SSD and GeForce GT 750M. I will miss my old one but look forward to a new chapter. It’s the 3rd Mac I’ve ever bought brand new. I forgot to add that it comes in on Monday or Tuesday.

Hi everyone.

Long Story Short: I was coming from a Late 2013 MacBook Pro 13" and yesterday i picked up a 2019 MacBook Pro 15" from the Apple Store. And it's great!

Now, cue to the full story.

It's been a while, since I was thinking about upgrading my laptop to something newer and fresher; and after about 15 years of absolute devotion to Steve Jobs' Lovechild, I was scared about buying a new Mac, after reading all the complaints made by the angry 2016-17-18-19 MacBook Pro users.

So I was originally intended to buy a Dell XPS 7590 (2019 model) or a Lenovo Thinkpad X1Extreme 2019; but then my fiancé lent me his Dell XPS 9570 (the 2018 model)...
I had issues with the WiFi card which kept losing the connection (and it was replaced twice by Dell), it didn't have an ambient light sensor, the fans ramped up like crazy for everything, the speakers sounded bad and quite muffled, when you plugged in a pair of headphones you could hear a constant background hiss, you need to run a bunch of Dell Bloatware to change the screen profile or the power settings, etc.

And then the worst thing of them all: the fact that Windows 10 is not consistent when using HiDPI screens. Some things are big, some were as small as I couldn't read them. Just unbearable (for me, of course).

I must admit the screen on the Dell was quite gorgeous (and on the 7590 I ordered, I went for the OLED panel, which should have been even better); and I also liked the keyboard travel, I liked the overall look, I also liked that Dell allows you to check the battery level without opening the screen (glorious days when Apple allowed me to do the same thing on my 2006 Core Duo MacBook Pro...). I liked the build-quality, I liked that the nVidia 1050 Ti/1650 Max-Q is a very nice GPU (performing much better than the 560X and as good as the 300 Euros Vega 16), etc.

So I'm not saying that the Dell XPS is a bad product; just it wasn't good for me. And well...I decided to cancel the order because I arrived to the conclusion that, even if they're getting better and better every year, Windows laptops do not represent what I'm looking for in a portable machine.

So I jumped Michael Dell's ship; and even if I originally planned to wait until 2020 to see a new MacBook Pro with a refreshed keyboard, I decided to pull the trigger and replace my 2013 13" MacBook Pro with this brand new MacBook Pro 15" i9 8-core 2,3 GHz - 16GB - 512GB - 560X and I'm writing this very post on the new machine.

Coming from the 2013 13" MacBook Pro, short pills of what I have to say:

1) This machine is a beast; you can really feel all the power of the 8 core CPU. I ran a benchmark in Windows 10 and the throughput on the i9-9880H is quite something! Also, the SSD has a reading speed of 3200 MB/s and writing speed just south of 2 GB/s. Temperatures are comparable (sometimes lower) with the i5 dual-core of the Late 2013 MBP.
2) Even if the Dell had a 4K screen and this is "only" 2880x1800, I can't complain at all: also I run the MBP in 150% mode (so everything is scaled to look like 1900x1200) and I used to run my fiancé's Dell in 200% mode (so, 1920x1080). Colors are perfect, everything looks sharp and detailed. It's a masterpiece and it's even brighter than my 2013 13" monitor.
3) I'm using FileVault with real-time encrypting done by the T2 chip; so far, no T2 crashes.... Fingers crossed!
4) I put on my Windows 10 license and installed some modern games from the external SSD (Samsung T5 1TB; 540 MB/s); and I have to say that with a resolution of 1440x900 and medium settings, they're all pretty playable with stable 60fps! Of course, this machine is not intended to be a gaming laptop; but since I also own a Windows 10 Gaming PC, I installed Boot Camp just to do a bit of light gaming while away from home (e.g. during holidays).
5) When I ordered the MBP, I also thought about getting the Vega 20 instead of the 560X; but since I don't do any professional CAD or 3D work, I then realized I was going to spend 420 Euros for an upgrade just to get some better graphics in gaming and else, on a machine on which gaming performances are marginal.
6) I really like the feeling of the new-gen butterfly keyboard keyboard; the only things I dislike are the UP/DOWN arrows, as I often don't find them since they're way smaller than the other keys. I hope it's going to last a bit...
7) The touch-bar is odi et amo. It reminds me of my Apple Watch: it's nice to have it, but when I leave without wearing it, sometimes I don't even realize I left it at home.

I will update you as soon as possible; and I really hope the MacBook Pro will perform well and will not suffer from known issues like T2 crashes, broken keyboard, etc... Because I honestly find it well suited for my needs and right now there isn't another product on the market that (for me) could replace it if I decide to return it...

Last but not least, I bought with the Back To School program; so I had a free pair of Beats Studio3.
Just my 2 cents: they're nice, but I still prefer my Audio Technica ATH-M50x, to them. Nice that they gifted the headphones to me; but I would NEVER have spent 350 Euros for that things...

PS: for those of you who are not in Europe, 1 EUR = 1,12 USD

You won’t regret it! The 2019 keyboard feels softer and more stable than the 2016. It was definitely noticeable! I hated the 2016 keyboard so much I avoided using my MacBook until I finally decided to give the 2019 a try

Hello,

I just brought Macbook Pro 13", 4 thunderbolt, 16 GB/ 512 GB, $2199. Macbook Pro 15" is $2399. Now I am confused between these two. Should I return upgraded 13" and get entry level 15" or should I keep upgraded 13"? Which one will be better for years to come? Please help me on this. I will use this Macbook for programming and for some other work related to blockchain development. I don't do any photo or video editing. Please help me to get the best Macbook for my use case.

Thanks.

I really like the feeling; I'm only concerned about the reliability.

But I have to say that even if I'm not doing hard typing to avoid damaging the key mechanism, according to 10fastfingers I'm typing as fast as on my Microsoft Surface Keyboard and faster than on my 2013 MacBook Pro.

Same here but I never had a problem with my 2016 keyboard. I’m hoping they fixed the issue but only time will tell. So far I’m enjoying it and the bigger screen (switched from the 13 to 15)
