Hello,

I just brought Macbook Pro 13", 4 thunderbolt, 16 GB/ 512 GB, $2199. Macbook Pro 15" is $2399. Now I am confused between these two. Should I return upgraded 13" and get entry level 15" or should I keep upgraded 13"? Which one will be better for years to come? Please help me on this. I will use this Macbook for programming and for some other work related to blockchain development. I don't do any photo or video editing. Please help me to get the best Macbook for my use case.

Thanks.

If you don’t mind the size and weight (33% more), 15 is better.

2019 13" 1.4ghz w/ 16GB RAM came in today- keyboard feels more like the old scissor style (longer travel) than my 2018 MBA that this is replacing. Feels way better.

What size SSD? If 512, I want to request posting some performance numbers when you get a chance.

You won’t regret it! The 2019 keyboard feels softer and more stable than the 2016. It was definitely noticeable! I hated the 2016 keyboard so much I avoided using my MacBook until I finally decided to give the 2019 a try

I had the keyboard replaced on the 2016, not sure if they put the gen 2 in there, but it was pretty noticeable. I like the butterfly keyboard (not the 2016), so I'm excited for the 2019!

Plus some serious horsepower!

u should be as the 2019s have better cpus and are better in terms of a tried and tested design

I was very gun shy getting the 2018 - hoping some of the heat issues are gone with the newer chips and better management. Mine will be up on a stand in a pretty cool spot as well so hopefully not heavy throttling!

Just received my 13'' 1.4ghz 256gb in silver today. Had originally ordered the space grey, but after reading comments regarding the finish not holding up well, I decided to switch. I must say I'm really digging the silver color and like the contrast between the keyboard and the body. Unlike others, I really like the butterfly keyboard and don't really mind the low travel. The keys don't feel clicky and are relatively soft.

However, I just read in the news page that a redesigned 13'' might very well be coming this October. Am I going to regret buying mine? Do you feel they might skip the baseline with the redesign? This would certainly make me feel better about my purchase if they do.

That thinking is never healthy when you’re buying the latest tech.

Got a new 2018 Macbook Pro retina/spaceGray 2.6GHz/16/512/560x for $2K from Costco before tax.

Current mid 2012 Retina 2.7Ghz/16/512/NVIDIA_650M running perfectly, except "Service Battery" @340cycles. Still get @4-4.5 hours on battery with mixed use.

I'm now wondering if I should wait another year??

Just a 128, all my stuff is either online or on external drives. Always have like 65-75GB free. Also cuts down on costs, so I could afford the 16GB RAM instead.

UPDATE

Sadly, I decided to re-pack it and return to the Apple Store.

I encountered a couple of T2 crashes.
The Mac wasn't doing anything; I was watching Netflix and closed the lid.

The day after, I woke up and discovered it suffered from a crash.
Just when I thought "Ok, it's just a case", it had a second one when I was using it...

The Apple Genius offered me a swap with a new unit; but I refused because I was too embittered about the thing.
In 6 years, I can swear my 13-inch MacBook Pro NEVER had a Kernel Panic.

NOT A SINGLE ONE

So I will wait for a new model to come out (hoping that this will be sorted). Because, as I said, there's no other laptop right now on the market which I want to buy.

I got the same deal. My 17" finally died and I didn't want to see what the pricing scheme of the 16" was going to be. Heaven forbid if a 3k machine have more than 256GB SSD standard. These storage upgrade prices are insane. Makes me long for the days where I could just take off the cover and upgrade the SSD and RAM myself.

Costco's sale price was pretty in line with used MBPs with these specs were going for so it seemed like a no brainer. Worst case if the specs are right for the 16" and it releases within Costco's return policy I'll consider switching.

Yup. Mid-2010. We had a good run ol' buddy. :(

Backlight went out and when I took it to a tech that is well versed with replacing the backlight fuse said he replaced it twice with no avail. He said I'd have to replace the whole screen and the prices on eBay do not justify trying to keep this thing chugging along when it started showing its age a long time ago.

I've held up the 15" MBP before at stores, but I was still shocked at how thin it was compared to the 17". Even though I'm a big fan of the design, I hope Apple makes some decent changes for the rumored 16".

I ordered a 13 MBP this morning:
2.4 GHz
16 GB RAM
1 TB SSD.

This 2019 machine is replacing/augmenting my current 11" Air purchased in 2012. I got 7 years out of this Air and it's still running fine. It was a (relatively) high end spec (at the time) with a 2.0 GHz i7 processor. The new 2019 MBP should destroy the Air on every metric. I mulled going with a lower spec on the 2019 MBP and getting an external GPU but I think the higher end spec machine I ordered should handle modest (sub 10 minute timeline) 4K video editing/exporting (FCPX) just fine. I can always add an EGPU later if/when I need it. The EGPU 'thing' is just getting off the ground so in a year or so I think the performance/price metric should be much better than now (mid 2019).

Does anyone have any idea what's the performance difference between MacBook 12" 2015 (1.2GHz / 512GB) and MacBook Pro 13" 2019 base model (1.4GHz / 256GB)? Tried googling for videos, but all I found was geekbench benchmarks, which suggest that it's 3x faster (multicore), but i'm more interested in real world usage.

I would post here to get more responses. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2019-13”-mbp-1-4ghz-quad-core-benchmarks.2189413/

Maybe post the same comment and what you use on a day to day basis as everyones is different

Sent it back. The thing is a hot mess, fans ramp up a lot and it gets damn hot.

I didn't need portability, so I've gone back to an i7 Mac mini, runs so much better.

What were you doing with it to get the fans to ramp up?

I just ordered one of the same spec but with 512gb SSD

So I picked up a loaded 15" 2019 model in the first week of June. Been using it without a problem since then. The keyboard does feel quieter than the one on my 2016 i7 Quad core that I sold after I picked this one up. A part of me wished I had waited for the 16" that's supposedly just around the corner, but another part of me knows that this thing will be good for a long time to come, so... =)

2.4 GHz
16 GB
1 TB SSD

SSD speeds (BlackMagic utility) are insane:
2650 MB/s write
2550 MB/s read

Geekbench 4:
Single Core: 4989
Multi-Core: 18191
