Hi guys,

I just purchased a second hand MacBook Pro mid 2015 and I am coming from an HP EliteBook 840 G2. The MacBook has much better screen, speakers, trackpad, keyboard and everything else. I also replaced the battery. It's just so much better.

I have a small issue and I don't know what to do with it. When I got it, it had the staingate issue. It's on the middle of the screen an area about 2 cm height and 10 cm wide. Should I just wipe the whole screen till I get the layer off or leave it like that with that spot in the middle ?

Haven't posted here in a hot minute as I have pretty much been getting by laptop less for the last several years just using my iPhone & iPad. However I am happy to report that I just received a shiny (as shiny as Space Gray can be) 13" M1 MBP with 16GB/512GB!

My last new MBP was one of the first unibody models ~2008? This is quite the upgrade from that one, although I will certainly miss being able to upgrade/replace drives and battery myself when needed. Loving it so far though!

Back to a 16" MacBook Pro as my daily machine as I need to work with some Intel-only VMs. I have to say, despite the footprint of the machine, it really is a brilliant laptop and that screen means I can work comfortably on it for hours without having to be hooked up to a big monitor.

I just ordered a 13 in MBP M1. I’m actually trading in my 16 in for it. Simply because I use my computer 90% connected to a monitor, so the size won’t be missed. I don’t need anything more powerful than the m1 when I’ll be using my computer mostly for browsing, school work, watch videos, emails, the basic stuff. Also the battery on my 16in is not really lasting as long as I would like. Hoping this computer will last me for at least 4-5 years.

Just ordered a 13" MacBook Pro M1 with 256GB SSD and 16GB RAM Refurb and got it for $1211 after taxes. Big drama behind it that spanned 2 weeks, I ordered a MacBook Air M1 16GB model and cancelled it using an Apple gift card but the balance never returned for 2 weeks until today. So for my troubles they took off $150 + $8 express shipping for me today and was able to get a MacBook Pro M1 instead! Can't wait.

Just ordered myself a brand new 13” MacBook Pro M1 with 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM after almost 2 years of not having a laptop. I previously owned a 2013 15” MacBook Pro which finally gave out on me sometime in 2019 - the update that came out around the end of 2019 bricked my laptop. After the update, my computer would freeze, beach ball, and restart every five minutes, no matter what I did to fix it. I factory reset the laptop, and there is no way for me to reload the Mac software no matter which option I chose. The laptop did last me 6 years - the longest of any laptop I’ve ever owned, so it did well. Now it’s time for a new one. Managed to use my Christmas bonus plus some money I managed to save. I’m so excited to finally own a laptop again!

I was given a pristine Early 2013 rMBP 15" (2.7GHz i7/16GB RAM) but it had no storage drive. I have since ordered a 1TB SATA SSD for the laptop. I figure I can use this laptop for web browsing, emails and simple photo processing tasks. I have no need to do any intense computing and may insall Big Sur on this laptop just to see how well it runs... best part is that the laptop was free :)

I got an updated wifi/BT card from eBay for $14 shipped that essentially upgraded my Early 2013 MBP from 802.11n to 802.11ac :) For these laptops it is a very simple plug and play affair :apple:

Total investment on this laptop amounted to $171.47 on my part. Not bad for a laptop with only 37 cycles on it’s original battery

I purchased a brand new 16 inch MacBook Pro with 32Gb RAM and 1TB SATA SSD last month. Instead of saying 2021 or even 2020, "About This Mac" says "MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)." ?

I'm coming from a mid-2012 MacBook Pro that I love and I still use everyday. The monitor on the new MBP causes eyestrain.

I used migration assist to transfer my files over from 2012 MBP. Despite unchecking settings, applications and data, migration assist moved everything over anyway. I only wanted my photo and music files, but I guess it's all or nothing.

I didn't appreciate all the prompts to enable Siri and to log into iCloud. I disabled both. I also noticed iTunes is discontinued. Fortunately I can play my thousands of mp3's in the Music app.

The first problem I encountered (other than eyestrain) is my trusty Photoshop CS6 on the old machine isn't compatible with Catalina 10.15.7. I decided not to buy a monthly plan to use Photoshop ?.

Instead, I plan to connect my 2012 MBP as an external HD to the new machine. That way I can still edit my photo files in Photoshop CS6. I hear Affinity Photo is a good alternative to Photoshop. I will look into that.

All in all, I'm not a fan of the new MBP. My 2012 MBP still rocks, so I pray it lasts another 10 years. ?

This doesn't happen very often. A family friend has just given me their 2019 MacBook Pro 13 inch. I've used MacOS before. Absolutely blown away by their gesture but I can see only having two USBC ports is going to be annoying as all my USB devices are the traditional type, I'm assuming there is some kind of dock I could buy for it at a later stage?

Decided to upgrade from Intel to the M1. Got the MacBook Pro 13 Space Grey with 16GB RAM & 1TB SSD. They actually had it in store, was very shocked. So far I am just shocked. My Intel Mac mini had 32GB RAM and the 16GB RAM in the MBP just feel like more than that 32GB. Worth the upgrade...

I upgraded from a 2018 15" MBP to a 2019 16" MBP two days ago. My 15" has been extremely unreliable, with multiple keyboard-related issues and constant overheating.
My 2018 had an i7-8850H and a 560X as well as 16 gigabytes of RAM. My new 16" is the base model with the i7-9750H and the 5300m. So not really an upgrade in terms of performance (well, except the fact that the 16" has better thermals)
I really like it so far!

I pulled the trigger on a base 16 MBP this week, just really needed the screen real estate and figured it will still be worth something by the second gen M chip machines. So far, really love the big beautiful screen !

I picked up an Early 2015 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro for $160 from eBay recently. The laptop would post but would not display to the screen. The seller told me that they could connect an external display to the laptop so I purchased it knowing it had issues. The laptop also came with the "stain gate" anti-glare coating peeling so I used mouthwash to remove the rest of the anti-glare coating to clean up the display. Since the laptop is more than 4 years old, I would not be eligible for Apple's warranty service to replace this display.

Anyway... I replaced the logic board on this laptop for a spare logic board I had when I upgraded my other Early 2015 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro to an i7 logic board so from my perspective, it only cost me some time to clean up the laptop and then swap out the logic board to fully restore this laptop back into a perfect running laptop again. I now have a good solid laptop I can use for travel :)

EDIT: I sourced a 2.9GHz i5/16GB logic board for this laptop and upgraded it. I like having 16GB RAM in my laptops. This will become a solid travel laptop. :)

Just updated with Monterey Developer Beta 3... so far no issue seen running the updated OS :)
Can't complain about pricing for this computer either. ;)

I ordered a 16" i9 machine last night to replace my mid-2018 MBP13 i7 laptop that turns 3 next month. There are a couple of Windows only apps that I use, and I think it may be awhile before a Windows solution is commercially available for Mac ARM CPUs. I decided to upgrade to the latest and greatest Intel-based machine and enjoy it while I wait for the software side of things to catch up to Apple's technology shift.

Pulled the trigger on a M1 MacBook Air - 16GB and 512GB. Was getting tired of waiting, and I have rebate from my job for 400, didn't want to lose it as we are slowly returning to the office. I'm using a 13" tbMBP from late 2016, and it's running hot with no real reason... Can't wait to have the new keyboard and hopefully cooler laptop!

Got another one for my little collection of older Macs from the electronics recycling/reselling company I work at...
C5D3507A-A110-4D39-8860-2E6BED897247_1_105_c.jpeg

A mid-2012 13" unibody MacBook Pro, the popular 2.5 GHz Core i5 model that Apple made for four years straight as an affordable laptop option for those that wanted more processing power but didn't want to spring for the pricier Retina Display models. Because these were also pretty popular with educational institutions (in addition to some school districts purchasing these in bulk, I'd see a LOT of college students when going for my I.T. degree with them), we often get a lot of these to recycle or resell, and so I'd often either pull out or reinstall hard drives and RAM in these). My supervisors said because of that factor and my Mac hobby, I could keep one of them for my collection, and so I popped a 1 TB SSD into it and bumped up the RAM from 4 to 8 GB and installed the Mac OS on it! The battery needs to be replaced, but that's something I could do without much hassle, as I've had to replace bad batteries from unibody pre-Retina MacBooks before on this job. And I plan to also soon max out the RAM to 16 GB. It could definitely make for a nice secondary laptop for me (compared to my more powerful M1 MacBook Air I've been using a lot lately), especially since I've always thought a mid-2012 13" MacBook Pro would be nice to have, but I previously could not afford even a secondhand one like this.

What made you go for this model over the new M1 Macs? I have the same unit you bought and would happily trade it for an m1 machine if that was my budget. Just curious.
I want to be able to run Windows via Boot Camp. Plus it was cheaper and it’ll be supported for some time yet, and it was £350 cheaper.

I see. The m1 air is cheaper than the pro you got though on amazon uk. Irrelevant I guess if you need windows.

I wanted to share what old dry thermal paste looks like on a 2014 15" MacBook Pro I bought second hand in September 2020. If you're getting an older macbook, open it up and at least clean the dust out! A clean + paste redo easily dropped my CPU temps quite a lot.
