My space grey 14" MBP comes today via UPS. Been waiting weeks for the dang thing. Hope it rocks as much as everyone says it does. My M1 Air is a great computer, and if this 14" MBP isn't $1000 better than my Air, it's going back to Apple. $2000 is a hella lot of money to spend on a computer. Kinda hoping I don't like it because if I do, I may have to sell blood to pay for it!

Hi Lambertjohn - what was the impetus to go from the M1 Air to the MBP 14"? My wife has the M1A and love it to pieces, however, I'm holding onto my intel-based 13" MBP and ready to make the move to the 14".

Yesterday I ordered the 14" MBP with the M1 Pro chip [upgraded to 10/16/16], 16GB RAM, 512GB. Apple's trade in offer for my M1 mini was enough to take some of the $ting from the cost. Stated delivery date range of December 14 - 21.

As much as I wanted to love the M1 mini (16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD)? After 10+ months of using it as my main computer - I don't love it at all. It doesn't play nicely with my monitors, gets hot, stutters and acts cranky sometimes when I'm using Photoshop . . . I'm over it. Maybe mine is just a problem unit but, I'm done. And, the MBP has - ports. An SDXC card slot. HDMI. Magsafe.

I hope the better GPU of this new MBP will handle my photo processing work better than the mini has done.

But, I confess - they kinda had me at the SD card slot.

My 14" MBP arrived yesterday, I got the 'base' model (if you can even call it like that...). What surprises me is the fact I ordered it on Monday via Amazon (Germany), so effectively I waited 2.5 days, while it is backordered until early December on Apple website (Austria). In addition it was €25 cheaper than from Apple (anyways, it was almost $2.6k, so take that, dear American friends ?).

Initially I was not planning on buying this computer and wanted to wait until the new MBA sees the light of the day, but then the rumors about the upcoming design of the Air (white bezel?!) as well as the fact that I went to the Apple Store and fell in love with the new MBP (which I wouldn't suppose having first seen the pictures) made me pull the trigger. It replaces my trusty early 2015 13" Pro which served me for over six years with just one minor issue on the way and on which I wrote many important university and scientific works (including my doctoral dissertation and countless papers). So basically now I feel I have to continue doing some serious work on the new MBP in order to justify the amount of money I spent ?

Anyways, after one day with the computer I feel it is worth every penny. The design and quality are absolutely superb, it feels so classy, well-designed and sturdy at the same time as no other premium laptop available on the market. My work laptop is the Surface 3 and, even though it is supposed to be a direct competitor to the MBP, I honestly think the MBP is leaps ahead and the Surface feels more like a toy than a serious working tool. The display is just gorgeous (colors, brightness, ProMotion... literally everything), the loudspeakers shocked me (never heard anything like that on a laptop) and the keyboard feels sooooo much better than the one on my old MBP (not sure about the 2019-20 MBPs, but I guess it must be a similar feeling) and it is a joy to type on! As far as I saw it is also marginally bigger and heavier than my old MBP, but the difference is so marginal that I am not noticing it at all.

I noticed a few software bugs (like the toolbar disappearing altogether with the options being still clickable but invisible lol), but updated almost immediately and for now they're gone. Also, just saw a notification that MacRumors is using significant amount of energy, but hope this was just a one-off!

Anyway, so far, so good, hope you guys will be happy with your new MBPs!

I just got mine today....

I ordered the wrong keyboard!! lol go the French Canadian one... its terrible (for me)

Also the 16" is a BEAST.... its too big/heavy. I think I'm going to get the 14" now that I have to change it out... if I got the proper keyboard might have just kept it....

ugh, another 3-4 weeks

I wound up getting a 16" M1 Pro with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD at the nearby Apple Store a little over a week ago. I cancelled the online order I placed for a similar config that at the time was still close to a month away from the promised delivery date. The only difference with the online order was it had 32GB of RAM, but after thinking about it, I figured 16GB or RAM would be enough for my needs and I didn't mind saving $400.

I am loving the new machine! 16GB was enough for my previous rMBP (maxed out mid-2015 15") and so far is more than ample for my daily routine which these machines are overkill for -- multiple tabs open on both Safari and Edge; remote computing to work; MS Teams; email, Messages, WhatsApp; occasionally watching videos and playing Mac App Store games. The screen is fantastic. With the combination of ProMotion and more powerful processors, all web pages I visit are buttery smooth in terms of scrolling and loading. I watched an HDR video on YouTube and all I can say is, "wow!" It's whisper quiet as advertised and doesn't get scalding hot like my previous rMBP. Speakers are much, much better than my previous rMBP, but not as powerful as my 2020 27" iMac and are not a replacement for my Sonos speakers. Battery life is excellent, though light gaming does apparently tax it. I had forgotten that one of the selling points of the Apple Silicon chips was being able to run iOS apps, so I've had fun running those on this notebook.

I did need to get used to the notch at first. I don't mind the look at all and had no problems in any way with the notch on the iPhone. But, unlike in the iPhone, the menubar is configurable in macOS and the notch was getting in the way. I am a heavy user of iStatMenus and found that I needed to change how the menubar items were displayed to get all the ones I wanted to fit. It took some tweaking but I finally was able to get them all on there, but there were quite a few trade-offs to make it happen. I'm used to the notch and my re-arranged menubar by this point and I think I'll be fine going forward.

I also have to get used to not being able to run vmware. That is, vmware has a beta version that runs natively on ARM but I'm not able to install the OSes I use on it (Windows 10, earlier macOS versions; I tried installing Monterey but it wouldn't work). I prefer to use a VM to remote into work, but don't need to. Not the end of the world, but I hope I can go back to that setup at some point.

Thanks for that brilliant idea. I had just ordered the MBP 14" from Apple due for delivery around December 10th. Based on your post I cancelled it and ordered it off Amazon.nl. I actually wanted a US keyboard, but Dutch will do. I find it odd that they don't have a few US keyboard layouts in any of the European stores.

Moreover, I had bought the Air, but somehow the screen gave me eye strain, so it was either sticking to my MBP '20 Intel or getting the Pro. I don't really need the power of the MBP, but my eyes are worth a few pennies, given that I use the device for around 10hrs a day.

Like you, I also liked the design in person much better than online, oddly. Looking forward to receiving it on Tuesday.

Glad my experience was so helpful! :)

The keyboard thing is really strange, I actually wanted the EN International layout, but, similar to your case, Amazon Germany only offered the German layout. But honestly it was more of an issue which I imagined it to be than it actually turned out - now typing this message from the new MBP and it feels very intuitive! Besides, at least in comparison to my old MBP, changing language of the keyboard has become super easy with the globe button in the lower left corner, so I am very satisfied.

Have fun with your new MBP, I guess you will be as amazed with it as I am! :)

Woke up this morning to find that they had the configuration I wanted (14inch M1 Max / 64GB / 2TB) in the Houston Apple Store so I took the drive from Austin (2.5 hours) to pick it up. Couldn't wait till December!
I can't even imagine how much that computer must have cost you.

How did you find out that the Houston store had a BTO model in stock? I want the 14" M1 with 32GB RAM.

In Boston, most Apple stores don't even have the base model in stock.

I've been working on my base model 14" MBP for about a week now. Genuinely impressed. For example now I work with about 30+ Safari tabs, a handful of Firefox tabs, 20 preview pdfs (some of which are books), Spotify and a couple of Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents. All this hooked on an LG Ultrafine with scaled resolution, and the fans don't even turn on. With my 2020 Intel MBP (with 8gb) the system would have become virtually unusable with this load. I'm happy I went for 32 gb memory though. With this load I have about 11gb in active use. I'm hoping that the machine would run smoothly also after 7 years, and 16gb could prove out to be a tad small.

Few weeks to go, and I’m getting excited!!

A couple weeks ago I loaded up a Space Gray 14” M1 Max 10 Core with 32 Core GPU, 64GB RAM, 8TB SSD.

Traded in my Intel MacBook Pro, Education discount, and got lucky with that 6% cash back on my Apple Card that Apple made a mistake with. I had a lot of store credit, in the end it cost me less than the base model. This is my dream machine. I do a LOT of FCP editing, and I use a lot of storage. Looking forward to this speed, battery life, and no fans constantly running.

My delivery shows Nov 30 - Dec 7. Historically I’ve usually gotten items quicker, but going by these threads, it’ll likely be accurate. Just a few short weeks away.

On the event of getting an apple card. I made an impulse buy for christmas this year. I have zero debt.
Ordered a 16" MBP base model m1 max/ 32gb/ 1 TB. Oct 26th. the $3499 option in the store.

It shows I ordered on Oct 26. Est delivery is Nov 24 - Dec 2nd. Patiently waiting for it to arrive. I have noticed people who ordered a week later, are getting longer delivery wait times.

I will have to post the same thing in various threads due to high level of information fragmentation on the forum about the 2021 MacBook Pros.

I have just ordered a 16” MBP in Silver.

M1 Max, 32 GPU cores, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB.

CONCERNS
Seeing reports on this forum about:

1. MagSafe cable faulty out of box, requires replacement
2. Some irregularities around the hinge
3. Someone said fans weren’t kicking in as expected even under heavy loads
4. Couple people at least, have reported nicks and scratches out of box
5. Someone reported a bump around the MagSafe port reaching into the speaker grille

Maybe some more.

Question: Like cars, are we to do a pre-delivery inspection now? What points to take care of?

You always want to inspect any item when you receive it. This has been the least amount of complaints I’ve seen on a release in years! No “gates”, a few random problems which sucks as you have to wait awhile for replacements, but I am reading more happy customers on a new generation of a MacBook as I’ve seen in years.

Indeed, no ‘gates’ this time, hopefully. :)

However, MagSafe cable is something that’s been reported by some people here, not just one or two. Hoping that isn’t a ‘gate’.

I suppose I should just connect the charger and cable to the MacBook and test charging then and there at the Store.
