just received my 14inch m1 max, shame that apple only let you get 64gb ram with the m1 max option. i'm perfectly content with the base m1 pro or even just the m1.

Just got a 14" M1 Pro 16GB/2TB upgraded from a 15" 2015 MBP (16GB/1TB) . Incredible performance so far. This thing just chews through 4K 60fps video in Final Cut Pro with no problem and I still haven't heard the fan come on yet.

Just got this '21 16" MBP straight from the shelf, 16GB/1TB SSD. Came from a 2019 16". This thing FLIES compared to the Intel Core i9, it's unbelievable, makes the old machine feel incredibly laggy. The ProMotion 120Hz HDR is very, very noticeable.

I have an i5 MBP13 2020 same age as my MBP14 M1 Pro... the M1 Pro is just flies.

14“ and 16” are likely to be updated Oct / Nov with M2 variants. Probably little else will change.

I am uncertain if Apple is going to refresh the internal as fast it was used to with Intel chips. Intel chips on mobile always lagging compare to desktop chip and in contract term—may be why they keep on selling newer chip for profit (Intel).

The M1 Pro/Max is so efficient fast like desktop chip, do we really need M2 series now? I believe they will shift focus to upgrading the iMac at least, and we may see M2 in 2023. Not this year?

I think they have to, to stay ahead

Okay, I took advantage of our state sales tax holiday and ordered a new 14 MBP. Don't really need it as I have the M1 MBA but I'm curious how much difference the bigger and better screen and speakers will make. Don't know if I'll keep it but had to try it out.

Yesterday I ordered a 16” MPB M1 Pro with 32 GB and 2 TB SSD. I then canceled the Mac Studio M1 Max with 64 GB and 2 TB SSD while the order was still processing. I first ordered the Studio, thinking that I would maximize the processing power and RAM while staying within my budget. However, as I continued to read about the M1 Pro, I concluded that I could afford the MBP with an M1 Pro and still have growing room, given my use case. As configured, the MBP was about $450 more than the Studio. This new MBP will replace my 2013 MBP with 16 GB SRAM and a 1 TB HDD. Delivery to my local Apple store is slated for September 1! 😋 I’m so excited!

Mac Studio is for enterprise but YOU MAKE A SMART decision - Macbook Pro with M1 Pro is decent.

Maybe this has been answered...but I'm curious how your temps have been with that machine. I've had several people tell me that the 14-inch MBPs run pretty warm when they are outfitted with the M1 Max, especially the 32-core GPU option. The case sizing apparently limits fan size and heat sinks, etc. That's part of the reason why I went with a 16-inch model (Plus, I wanted the extra screen real estate).

Picked up my 16" MBP M1 Pro from the Apple store this afternoon! It's all that I hoped for and more. Works well with my two BenQ EL2870U 28" 4K displays.

I just got my new MacBook Pro M1 Pro machine. Great machine, but I am complaining about the screen (which I have more details in the PWM thread).
I skimmed that thread and have the 14.... Have you tried a matte screen protector? I find that it dulls the vivid harshness for me.

Costco is running a sale on the 14 and 16 inch m1 pro units. Not quite as good as Best Buy's recent sale ($50 more) but still a decent price if you are in the market.

I bought a MBP 14 with M1 Max, 64GB RAM, 1TB SSD on 23/08/2022 (UK based).
Funds hold on CC on 24/08/2022 in the evening and changed to prepared for shipping on 25/08/2022 morning.
Shipped today morning (26/08/2022) and just finished clearance processing.
Scheduled for around the 30th August but estimate from Apple shows 6th September

If this helps anyone else wondering on current wait times. Mine was a BTO

I'm so confused. I got a base 14 MBP upgraded with 1TB storage during our state's sales tax holiday. I'm not a power user but the screen, speakers, and battery life have impressed me. The folks in the Macbook Air forum are committed that the M2 is a better choice... My return window is closing but I'm trying to stick with my original thoughts (the 14)... I wonder how much of people's attraction to the M2 Mba is partially because it's the "newest" thing out????

I also wonder which machine is going to be better and hold the better resale value 3 years from now?

The opinions about MBA in a MBA-heavy thread are biased to the highest order. The M2 MBA is an amazing device. But in my opinion it’s not the best in terms of value. If you’re looking for sustained high performance in your MacBook, then the one you have would out-perform any MBAs.

I once considered getting the M2 MBA but I had a good deal from Apple to get a certified refurbished base model M1 Pro for an additional $250. Better screen, some legacy I/Os and card slot, better speakers and mics, better build quality and design.

It’s hard to predict the resale value I would think.

After returning the base MacBook Pro 14 inch 8 core/16GB/ 512GB I bought a brand new 2020 13 inch with 2.0 i5/16GB/1TB at a steal price (half the price of the 14).

My 14 inch MacBook had an obvious shadow (5mm) at the edge of the whole display. The shadow was pretty distracting on light backgrounds, using Safari for example. This may be "a feature" of the mini led technology.

Also, I had issues when conecting the Huawei Mateview 28 display. Pretty often the external display was refusing to wake-up.

This is my third intel Macbook Pro with this design.

I have no issues whith the display and works flawlessly with the Huawei Mateview 28.

Apart for the moderate fan noise when I push it to the limit I have no complaints. Also, heading for the winter being warmer is a bonus.

I don't have a plan, I could upgrade to the M2 Pro when it's announced if I can find a unit without that shadow.

In the meantime I need a computer and this gets the job done.

Hi,
I want to thank all of you that helped me to decide on my new Mac that i just got on Friday.
I asked few members in this forum advise and it was really helpful.

I am happy that I managed to get quick the laptop (I am in Spain) that I really wanted, and wish that will serve me for many years. Even it's overkill and i could get away with 32GB I decide to treat myself with the 64GB version.

16" Macbook M1 Max- 64GB / 32GPU / 1TB SSD in Space Grey.

Will soon put in to work in my home office.

Thanks!

Just bought a new 16″ MPB (just a 1TB SSD upgrade over the base model) and I finally feel like I have a machine that is everything a laptop should be, with no compromises. I had a 13″ 2015 version that just wasn't powerful enough, a 15″ 2018 version with the defective keyboard, and a 16″ 2019 version with the thermal issues (fan noise is quite audible even on idle)…

The fans barely ever move on this thing, even while the processor is crushing some heavy task. I'm blown away. The display is so good. The speakers are somehow even better than before. MagSafe is back! And the function keys! It's literally everything I could have asked for. And I got it at a decent price, with these machines being discounted $400 at the moment.

I could have waited for the M2 Pro, but why? All signs point to it being a minor chip upgrade, over an already extremely powerful chip, using the same architecture. I don't think that machine will be as cool or quiet as this one, and I simply don't need any extra performance.

I have a MBP 16" 2019 and had decided to keep it. But then, I got the new 2021 because it was $400 off. The thing that makes me want to keep the new machine is the screen, which seems much easier on my eyes. Also, I like the keyboard much better. So it looks like I'll be selling the 2019 machine and keeping the new one. It is very well-designed -- at least that's my opinion so far, after one day.

Hi Guys,

Well, after much pondering, I've finally bought a 2021 M1 MBP 16" 1tb to replace my trusted and old friend my 2009 Mac Pro, which has served me well over the years. Alas, support on many front was dropping for the O'S, so I needed to love on.

I really wasn't sure whether to wait for the M2 MBP, but then came across a pretty good deal and picked one up for £1,680.

I haven't yet opened it as am waiting to find a good sleeve (any recommendations?) and also need to buy a couple of USB C adaptors (what a silly thing from Apple to not have at least 1 USB slot!)

Brace yourselves for an onslaught of questions over the coming weeks! 😂
