Just picked up an M2 refurb 14 MacBook Pro Max 38 core 4TB HD 64 gigs ram. If you want power and travel a lot this is the sweet spot. The 16 although a little better in power and battery is just not worth the extra bulk. And for once I got a cpu that is on the higher range of geek bench scores compared to others so stoked.

Purchased a new MBP 16" with M1 Max, 64GB and 4TB over the weekend for $2999 and no tax from BH Photo. Pretty excited for it to be delivered tomorrow. The specs will probably last me 10+ years, seeing as how I still have my 2015 rMBP 13.

Went through a revolving door of Apple products the past six months trying to find the right one. Since January of this year I've returned a Mac Studio, Mini Pro, MBP 16 M2 Max, MBP 14 M2 Max, and two MBA 15s. I am not proud of this behavior and have never done this before. The desktops taught me I really prefer laptops, but I wasn't quite happy with anything from the current lineup. I had buyer's remorse with the two M2 Max MBP because the price just didn't justify the specs. The MBA 15 was probably my most favorite form factor but left me wanting more power. I loved my 2015 MBP 13 and M1 MBA but my aging eyes really do prefer a larger screen laptop now and I jumped on the 16" M1 Max deal, seeing as it's basically a near-$5000 laptop for $3000 out-the-door. Even an equivalent Apple refurb model is $4100 after tax. I also returned my 4TB SN850X NVMe with enclosure and recouped another $350.

Glad to finally stop the revolving door of purchases and settle down with the MBP 16 for the long haul.
That’s a mega bargin congrats

still happy with my M1 16 inch macbook pro. May upgrade the ram when I do upgrade. I said I would keep mine for 3-4 years so will see what the 2025 look like by then

I was super happy with the performance of the M1 16 but it’s a pig size wise if you travel a ton and work any on a plane it’s just too big and heavy.
Takes me back to college days and my trusty Toshiba 4000CDT laptop. That baby had it all -- PC Card slot, floppy drive, CD-ROM, all encased in industrial plastic.

You want to talk big and heavy, that 12.1" beast was more than triple the thickness of the MBP 16 and weighed over 2 pounds more! It's all about perspective. The MBP 16 is definitely less svelte than its siblings in the lineup, but overall I still find it light for what it is and plenty easy to manage.

I just could never get the 16 open and work well in coach on the plane when I needed it. Otherwise yes it is great!

I hear ya. It is interesting how much larger the tray table is on a Southwest flight compared to an international economy flight with those little fold-in-half tables.

After a whole lot of back and forth and checking out specs/comparisons, I have a refurbed 14" MBP M1 Max 64GB 2TB en-route. This should get interesting as I run a good # of VMs, but will be needing to convert to ARM variants for both Linux (most commonly used) and, sigh, Windows.

I'm sure overall non-VM performance will be fine, and can cross-compile in the Linux VMs, but have some concerns over moving from my 2019 MBP 16 on display size as I use the 16" alongside an UW QHD+ display for more screen real estate, and for when I have to present more than a single window/app to share the 16" display (good luck sharing an UW desktop to a bunch of people - just doesn't work well).

Fingers crossed.

Have just ordered a 14" MacBook Pro M2 Pro, 32Gb, 2Tb.

It will replace an M1 Mini and 11.9 iPad Pro. I need a decent amount of RAM for software development (and a modicum of future proofing).

Very excited. It'll be the first machine I've ever owned which didn't reflect some kind of compromise between size, battery life, processing power and heat.

Just received my Apple refurbished MacBook Pro 14" M2 Base model. What a spectacular laptop, first Mac in a long time, like 12 years or so. I will highly consider after using this for a while a new M3 when they release as I love this machine.

BTW the refurb had 7 cycles on the battery so basically new, sure looked new!

I took delivery of a new (to me) Intel 2019 Macbook Pro 16" with an i7, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD & 5500m 8GB video card. It was originally sold in March 2022 (per Apple) so it had only a year and a half of use. Like new condition, only 87 cycles on the battery. This configuration was $3500 brand new, which depreciated to today's $800 price. Very happy with this model.

Just ordered an M2 Pro MBP, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. To be totally honest I didn't need it...but the 13" MBA is a tad smaller than what I wanted. Meanwhile I loved my old ThinkPad T480s, and used that knowledge, the $750 trade-in for my MBA, and a 10% veteran's discount to order the above for around $1K. :) Looking forward to it. Power-wise, the 'old' MBA M2 was a smidge slow @ times under middling load (it only had 8GB and the 512GB SSD) so the MBP should be more than sufficient.

Had one or one like it at one point. Satellite - because it's nearly as heavy as one, with swappable CD-ROM drives and IIRC multiple PCI Card sockets and removable/pluggable 'cartridge' (just a drive caddy wrapped) hard drive.. oh and lol, totally forgot - and the floppy drive as well! :D

Waiting on delivery of a refurb M1 Pro 14” base model. I was torn between that and the upgraded model with a 1tb drive (and more cores), but this won’t be my main machine. I will miss not having a French Canadian keyboard though…

There don't seem to have been any refurb 14" MBPs on the UK store for a while now. Do I keep missing them or are we in a quiet period for some reason?

Essentially finished putting back together a troubled and abused (not me!) A1286 early 2011 MBP. Just needs a new battery. My first Apple portable, and I'm very pleased with it.
£20. Plus some screws and a charger.

Got my M1 Pro and I love it. Coming from a 12” MacBook, I was prepared for the added weight, but it’s not bad at all. I actually find it easier to carry around than my wife’s M1 Air, and its super quick.

I probably won’t put it under much of a load as I’ve got a desktop and access to a Studio Ultra for any heavy lifting, but for most things, this laptop is fantastic.

Just gotta get used to the US English keyboard…

While the majority of users are buying Apple's newest laptops, I just scored a Mid2015 15-inch 2.8GHz i7/16GB/512GB SSD MacBook Pro for $300. The display is in near perfect condition with only one very tiny spot on the anti-glare coating. I had to look at the display at an angle with light reflecting off of it to notice so the only real imperfection is the keyboard which can be replaced. This laptop will be a nice winter project for me to restore while installing a WD SN570 2TB NVMe storage drive and MacOS 14 Sonoma to complete the restoration of this laptop. :apple:

I'm coming from an almost 8-year old 27" 5K iMac (late 2015) that has paid for itself many times over. I love that machine, but these days Apple does not offer a good iMac, at least for me. The 24" is hideous, and the Studio works out to almost 4K€ when you count in the display. So I got a Macbook Pro 14" M2 Pro with 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM and, my goodness, it reminds me so much of my first Macbook Pro 15" from 2008. It's such a great design. It's a pity how Apple does not let users just hook up their old iMacs as external displays. My iMac is in excellent condition and now will just be used as a media consumption device, unless there is a way for me to use it as external display for my MacBook. In any case, I think I won't be buying an iMac again since Apple really just leaves you out in the cold once they get old, and it's a pity because the machines are perfectly built and can last a long time as displays.
