I talked to a Business Team contact about this and they said stores are stocking a 14" M3 Max Ultimate config with 64GB/2TB this year, but that no stores will be stocking a 16" M3 Max Ultimate config. With M1/M2 generations stores always had a 16" 64GB/4TB config, but not anymore, any 16" above 1TB needs to be a custom order. Apparently this won't be changing as more inventory becomes available. Seems like a strange policy change!

I guess I will go ahead and make my BTO later today..

Still waiting for some progress in my 14’’ M3 Max (binned)/36GB/1TB order. Ordered on Oct 31, still processing, no charge on credit card/Apple Pay so far and delivery expected Nov 17-27.
Was hoping for earlier availability in my local Apple Store, but availability for pickup slips to Dec 7 now. Seems to be the standard config with lowest availability in many EU countries…

Arrival end of November. I will go from MBA M1 to MBP M3 Max. Improvements:
3 x p-cores (4 → 12),
4 x RAM (16 → 64),
5 x GPU cores (8 → 40).

MBP14/SpaceBlack/M3Max/16C/48GB/1TB was just charged and switched to Preparing to Ship
Original estimate of Nov 16-20 (Oct 31 order)
After being picked up by DHL in Shanghai last Thursday the package has finally made it to the states. Based on previous DHL deliveries it will likely be delivered tomorrow.

My 16" Black MBP M3 Max / Unbinned / 128GB / 4TB shows "Clearance delay - Import - Memphis TN", with an unknown delivery date. It's meant to go to Florida, but stuck in Memphis for now. Shipped FedEx.

Any guess what's going on? This is the first time I've ever seen an Apple shipment get stuck in Customs.

It'll probably ship out tonight if its in Memphis..
Not sure if its known here or not, but Memphis is Fedex Hub.. similar to KY and Alaska for UPS

My 14" M3 Max (unbinned), 64GB memory, 4TB HD finally switched to Preparing for Shipment today and my credit card has the excessively large payment pending on it as of this morning. I ordered on Mon, Nov 6th, so based on this one data point, it's about a week to do a BTO. Delivery Estimate from Apple says Nov 22-27 still. That's right across the thanksgiving holiday here in the US, so I'm crossing my fingers it gets here towards the end of this week or early next week :)

Interesting, I also ordered November 6th, after my old MBP sold, the exact same config except 2TB SSD. Mine is still processing and has always showed December 7-14.

It would really make my week if this thing shipped early, especially because I could sell my iMac earlier ahead of the holidays. I've been holding out for the third gen Apple Silicon since I bought in late on Intel (despite the rumors about AS) because of COVID and waited because I believed (correctly) that 3nm would be something special. The M3 Max is absolutely wild! Basically getting a desktop class machine in a 14" enclosure is nuts. Replaced two Macs with one.

i sold my old MacBook for a **really** good price which will allow me to buy this new one with little money out of my pocket. Cat who bought it flew in from another state to get it. anyway the wait begins.

While playing around trying in the apple store to figure out what specs might be available to pickup for the M3 max, I noticed that if you selected the 2TB SSD, the delivery dates moved out by several weeks. Didn't matter which chip or memory config, just the 2 TB SSD caused the biggest shift. I suspect that there's some kind of shortage or limited stock of that part and that's why you're getting the dates in Dec. I'll cross my fingers that they are being super conservative and you'll get yours sooner though!!!

Holy crap - did you order two laptops for that price!?!?!?!? 😆

RE: binned vs unbinned. There are probably better explanations in the thread somewhere, but a 'binned' chip happens when they go to make a M3 Max chip, and they test the CPU, and realize some of the cores aren't working right/performance isn't what it should be. Your order above shows a non-binned chip, meaning you're getting the full power out of the chip as expected.

When looking at the options for the M3 max chip, the top chip is "binned", the second one is unbinned:

I can never remember how many CPUs/GPUs it has, so I'm lazy and say binned/unbinned.

Ordered at launch. Got a pending charge on my card 4 days ago and still processing. Unbinned 16 Max 64GB 8 TB. Never had the card pending for this long without it moving to preparing to ship. Anyone else?

Update: Canceled my order with 14’’ M3 Max (binned)/36 GB/1 TB and ordered a BTO 14’’ unbinned M3 Max/48 GB/1 TB - delivery expected for Nov 29 - Dec 1…

With some heavier workloads I am already approaching full RAM usage (32 GB) on my 16’’ Intel MBP. Not my every-day work, but still - 48 GB will be more future-proof, plus I get the unbinned M3 Max and 400 GB/s RAM bandwidth.

You could always do more but that’s beyond my budget (and exceeds my foreseeable needs for the next 5 years).
