Purchased a Refurbished Macbook Pro 2.53ghz Late 2008 Unibody a month ago and so far I love it. This is my 3rd Mac and my first time buying a refurbish. I have to say everything looks new except for the plain white box it came in. I do miss some of the features that Tiger has. But I can go back to them just by turning on my Powerbook G4. :)

This model was hard to get. As soon as Apple puts one in stock, it would sell out before I could grab my cc. But I'm happy for now.

After much dileberation on wether to get a 13" or a 15" (my previous MB was 13" and I thought 15 would be to much to lug around), I finally decided on the 15" and I am more than happy that I did. :)

I love this computer. Its the 2.66, 4gb, 320gb HDD, etc etc.

THis size is perfect - more "official/professional" (for lack of a better word). Even though I am not really a "pro" at anything  , I am sure the hardware will come in handy as I keep learning Final Cut and stuff like that.

I guess the only thing I can say though is that the battery isnt up to par now that i think about it (Iam usually always plugged in). I mean I never expected 7hrs, or even 6. But I thought maybe 5 would be possible depending on the kind of use, but I dont think I will ever really see that. Sometimes when I unplug it (form 100% charge), it says 4hrs remaning and sometimes it says 7hrs  ?

At any rate, with normal/light use - nothing too heavy, it will give about 3.5 or 4, but nothing more. I mean thats not really bad but after all that 7hr advertising, youd want it to do a bit better than that. I am gonna look around and see how my results fair in comparison to others. If i see some people are getting 5 or 6 hrs, I will consider starting to make a case under warranty. You know how it is...;)

I just bought one of the new unibody MBP's. 13". I was tempted to go for the 15", but an extra video card and a bit bigger screen just weren't enough for me to justify the extra $500.

So far am impressed though, the unibody's seem a little more sturdy than the previous ones.

Now if the rumors are true and there are "NEW" MBP's, well then I'll be taking mine back and getting a new new one!

I love the SD card slot, my PC laptop has one and it's so handy. I shall use it often.

So I bought myself a MBP 13" the other day, the basic model on the education discount. Swapped in my OCZ Agility ssd. Being a longtime Thinkpad user I'm hard to impress, but so far I'm really pleased with my laptop. :D

Help I Know Im In Wrong Thread Emergency

Hey guys, hope someone can help fast, I sold my G5 on ebay, its a Early 2005 2.7 Dual G5 with the Heatsink cooling system. My computer shut off for not reason at all the other day, after a friend looked at it, he thinks its the Power Supply, I have tried the Cuda button and everything else, everyone thinks its the power supply, so I ordered one from the internet and its arriving tomorrow. I talked to the buyer, he said that it is fine as long as its just the power supply and I can replace it. So I am going to be replacing it tomorrow and then testing and shipping it if it works.

But I really need a Guide for replacing the Power Supply for this computer, I have found some but none for the 2.7 Dual with the Heat sink thing over the CPUS, do I have to remove the logic board and cpus or just the CPU's? Does anyone have a guide they can email me at mwatkinsevang@gmail.com

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Matt

Just bought a 15" 2.8. Love it even though it will be worth nothing when the new MBPs come out.

i was back at the apple store yesterday getting some goodies and i was talkin to one of the workers there and they told me yeah the rumor is they are coming but thinks my 2.8 is still a fantastic machine. he did go on to bash the 13" 2.26 saying people think its a "pro" when it really is not. i'm like what is he talkin about!?!? he said the 13" 2.26 is not worth the money and its just a way to make people think they have a "pro" when all they have is a white Macbook which runs faster than the 13" MBP 2.26!?!?!??!

ok may i never talk to another apple store worker again :p

He may have a point... But I think apple would be pissed at him for talking that way.

He's very silly as what does the word pro mean anyway? I mean, it's just a created term to help marketing and whatnot. Yeah, I know it has some real meaning, but in essence, if they had always built the machines without that moniker, it wouldn't make them less helpful.

I once heard an Apple store employee saying shuffles were garbage.

The thing is these employees take their personal opinions and make them as fact.

 "Pro" is short for "Professional" and he's saying the 13" Macbook Pro is not actually built for Pro(fesional) users like the 15" & 17" are, which were classically alone in the Pro line until the aluminum 13" was just graduated into it in name, from the consumer Macbook line.

An Apple Store employee told me the same BTW, and it came off as being the company line, actually, not inappropriate bashing.

Good grief. I know what pro stands for.

I'm saying there isn't "Magic," that makes something pro or not. It's just a word. It's likely professional rather a person finds it meets his or her own professional needs or not. A 15 or 17 could not be "pro," for some uses people might need.

Again, it's just marketing, a word.

And finally I'm sure it's not an Apple official line. These employees say any and everything. They bash this or that product and a product you might dislike, they'll love. It's just their personal opinion, which is useless most of the time.

Hi everyone! I'm so excited. Just ordered a 15" refurb 2.53 Mbp unibody. It should be here friday. Both my Black macbook and my gateway laptop were stolen when my house was robbed last week and I've felt lost lately.

Luckily the theives left my new imac, but they unplugged my new ipod nano and took that. Anyway, needless to say, insurance gave me about $1700 to replace both laptops so I figured I'd just get one awesome one. I don't think anything will help me shake this new anxiety that I know have after everything happened.

After weeks of indecision I'm finally the proud owner of a 13" mbp (standard version) - Have been itching to get one for weeks but wasn't sure due to the impending revision. Went to Selfridges today as I have a £100 voucher none left so went to the Apple Store where they agreed to knock down the price to £899 and exchange if a new model came out this month - I still wasn't sure so went to John Lewis as they do two years free warranty and overheard a salesman say to someone we have a pro reduced to £800 . Shot over to where he was and it turned out they had 2 on display (both unused never displayed, only the brown outer box had been opened?)) so grabbed the next nearest salesman and grabbed the other one.

So irrespective of the next revision I can upgrade to 4gb of ram and still be under the current price and hopefully as speedy :D.

Now can someone point me to some helpful guides

Good story. Sounds like quite a savings over the starting UK prices.

It's a very strong computer. You will notice the bump to 4GB of memory but it runs get at 2 for most things too.

As far as guides, I'm sure you've already used the videos at Apple's site. You might otherwise just try to lookup things you have particular questions about. I think you'll find you discover the system quite quickly. Enjoy it.

shuffles are garbage, and the 13" mbp isn't deserving of the name "pro"

customers ought to be told the truth!

That is really sad. For the some mobile applications, the 13 makes so much more sense. Almost everything is in it besides the screen.

There are professionals with a 13 & 17-inch.

Lets not forget there was also a Powerbook 12-inch with a screen much less useful than the 13-inch MBP.
