Just picked up my 15" matte 2.8GHz Macbook Pro today. In the words of a poster whose name I've forgotten, I'm now "future-proof" Yes, I should have waited for the new update, but I'm happy with what I have. :D This is my first ever Mac. :apple::D

So irrespective of the next revision I can upgrade to 4gb of ram and still be under the current price and hopefully as speedy :D.

Now can someone point me to some helpful guides

While theres a ton of speculation at the moment, and undoubtedly they will be upgrading their 15 and 17 inch models (probably the 13 as well but who knows)
£800 is a good deal on the MBP, But afew things to keep in mind. The Core 2 Duo range is comming up to its 4 year anniversary and the Core 2 Duo's in use in the Mac's are exactly 2 years this month old.

Technology terms thats a long time.

If it was me, and i had the money, I'd wait. Just to see whats happening and if i didn't have the money, I'd buy one (the same model you brought) when the prices came down so they could get rid of them

I belong!

I just purchased my FIRST EVER MACBOOK PRO! I started several years ago, reluctantly letting go of the PC/Windows world, and bought a Mac Mini. Since then I would never go back! I bought an aluminium iMac 24" about three years ago. So, three DAYS ago I walked out of the store with a 15" MBP 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM, etc.etc.etc.

I love it!

Hey everyone, so I got my new Macbook pro in the mail and I was setting it up and to my surprise, they shipped me one with a 320 gb Hard Drive instead of 250 gb. I only paid $1449 for it so probably their mistake or they didn't care.

What a pleasant surprise! I'm loving the computer so far, it's much nicer than my old Black macbook. :D

Hello there, its my first post and that because i am really dissapointed by apple.
I am an owner of the late 2006 imac for the last 3 year now, though I rarely use the Mac os as I need windows programs for my work. I am happy with the hardware after all that time.
I own the iphone 3gs 32gb and I am extremely happy as well.

I recently decided to upgrade my asus eeepc 1000h netbook with the latest macbook pro 13.3.

Received it a few days ago, friday afternoon but couldnt open the package until night when i went home.
Really excited by the outer look and I was ready to switch on the laptop when i realized that it was impossible. Battery indicator was dead, no lights at all, then tried to charge it (even if the light on the charger was green).

My first thought was that the problem was the cold. You see i left it in the car when i got it for a few hours and it was cold outside (around 4 celcius).

Anyway warmed it inside the house charged it during the night only to realize yesterday morning that the problem insists, so called the shop and returned it back. Hopefully early this week i will get a replacement.

Anyone got a similar experience?

What do you think was the problem.

I'm so excited!

I just ordered my first ever Mac!! Its a 13.3in MBP 2.26 320GB Sata HD 4GB RAM. I have never owned a Mac before and have been using Windows since i was a tot in the early 90's. So I was born and raised on MS. This is going to be so new to me.

I got it because I just started a new online course and ended up having extra loan money left over for a new computer. I was going to get a computer like my moms new one, she got a Toshiba and is running windows 7. I liked it, and I was inches away from buying it and then I thought "what the hell" and took the :apple: plunge. Right now I have a Dell Vostro 1500 and while I have been satisfied with it for the last 2 years, right now i have a screen that doesn't work, a very slow computer and very small specs. (it was a gift, so i didn't get a chance to pick out my own specs)

But now my Macbook Pro will be on the way! (I hope) It says that it should be delivered between Jan 21st and 27th. I am hoping it comes on or close to the 21st that way I have the entire weekend to play with it.

Any app recommendations for a Mac Newb??

And should I calibrate my battery as soon as I get it or wait a couple weeks? thanks. (sorry for the long post but I am soo excited and I have a while to wait lol)

Ordered a 13.3" MBP 2.53 GHz with 4GB RAM and a 500GB HD a week ago. £963 with the higher education discount

My status has said "preparing handover to final carrier" since yesterday evening so i'm hopeful it will arrive tomorrow or friday. I think i'll get an off the shelf one next time as they're soooo easy to upgrade (did this with my current macbook) and the wait is killing me! :D

If it arrives in the next couple of days that will mean 9-10 days since it was ordered which (although frustrating) isn't bad considering it sounds like they make them afresh.

Getting the matte screen is a reasonable excuse for a complete build but surely it would be easier (for HD upgrades) for them to have stocks of the various hard-drives locally and swap them into off the shelf models? I think i remember reading somewhere that this is what they do with RAM???

What a lovely machine

17" 2.8 bought on the 31st before the VAT went back up.

Couldn't be happier with it.

After a prolonged period of waiting for the new update on the macbook pro i finally took the plunge and have just ordered the macbook pro as my previous laptop died about two weeks ago, and I can no longer live without one due to work. However, the delivery date for the item is almost 3 weeks away! the website said it would ship within 3 days! Is this normal? This will take my return date on the MBP to the end of feb, a relief if they do release an update, but frustrating nonetheless! Does anybody know if these delayed dispatch times might hint at a refresh coming in feb?

A refresh has to be coming, probably in February as any later would be long over due.

That said if you need it right now, I'd suggest amazon frankly. Apple might be delaying shipments for a refresh but Amazon has stock ready to go. According to UPS I'll have mine this afternoon :)

Thanks. I work for a UK university, so I ordered this morning through the apple online store to get the education discount. It wasn't until after I had placed the order that the receipt informed me of the expected delivery date.

is it likely that if a refresh happens in the interim that they will automatically amend the product spec and or price?

Ordered 13" MBP today

Done waiting for a refresh. Not really going to affect my usage of the computer, arrandale chip or not.

I chose the MBP over the standard macbook. I thought the extra $200 was worth it for a better case, better display (so I've read), SD card and firewire.

Hey Apple, if you're going to do a big refresh on this, how about in the next 14 days please? (Return/exchange window) ;)

I bought my mbp yesterday, also done waiting for a refresh. I posted this fact on the arrandale thread and had some jack saying I've wasted my money. I posted back saying, well at least I dont get more out of waiting for a 20% cpu upgrade than a strip tease. ;)

I agree with Druean!

I ordered my 15" 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD MBP from dabs.com yesterday (expected delivery Saturday) :)

I'm not going to be a spec whore and wait....and wait....and wait.....

I need a machine for Monday, and I wanted to buy a MBP. Sure, i'll feel a little bit gutted when the refresh happens, but i'm really not going to see the benefits of an i5/i7 processor over a 2.8GHz C2D using it for what I need to use it for.

I'd prefer to wait 12 months, then consider selling mine and buying a refreshed MBP that has USB3 and any issues identified from the first batch of i processor machines ironed out :D

For what it's worth, I can't see the next refresh happening until the end of Feb at the earliest. Though I suspect Apple will dedicate all resources to promoting/selling the iSlate (much better name!) so it could be even longer before the MBP's are brought up to date. No matter what comments people make on the other threads, MBP's will still sell no matter what (as we are proving here). People who NEED a new laptop will buy no matter what, peope who WANT a new laptop will hold on forever to keep up to date with ever changing hardware (and spend most of their time on here calling people like me and Druean idiots for caving in).

No offence meant to anyone, just having an opinion :apple:

Nice one topcat :D cheers for backing up my point, good to hear a sensible opinion for a change.

Yep. I agree, and after the keynote was over on Wednesday and no new MBPs were released, I ordered a current model. Will I be frustrated if the new ones are released next week? No doubt. However, like you say, MBPs will always fetch a decent price online. I doubt the next upgrade will get Lightpeak/USB 3/Blu-Ray. So, with that in mind, I'm not sure I will really notice the 20% processor speed boost that will come with the move toward i5.

As I said in an earlier post... if Apple's release of the iPad is an indicator of anything, it is that the MacBook Pro refresh will not be all that revolutionary and the differences between what I can buy today and next week will most likely be underwhelming. I'm happy to own a Mac again (I broke my TiBook recently), but I'm disappointed with Apple's move to all these 'consumer' products. Will they ever try to compete in the 'pro' category again? Give us a reason for buying your pro line, Apple, beyond just the sexy contours, flashy eye candy and Mac OS X (actually...that's enough for me!). =)

FWIW, I was told via phone by the Apple sales lady that any MBP refresh that happens within 14 days of receiving my new MBP would allow me to exchange for the new model. She 'confirmed' this with her supervisor. I have both names written down.

Now is this true? I have no idea. Will there be a refresh in the next two weeks? Highly unlikely, in my opinion.

Wow, thanks for that FLHX. That's really interesting news and I appreciate it. Out of curiosity, what were the employees' names? =P I want to use the same thing as leverage if I get completely pwned by Apple with a refresh. You say it's highly unlikely that a refresh will occur within two weeks, and to be honest, I feel the same way, which is why I ultimately made the plunge on the current MBP. You said 14 days from 'receiving' the MBP, so that's different than the 'order date', ya? Cool...cheers for that!
