It is possible to right click with the Mighty Mouse. Not sure why it isn't like this out of the box but go to Settings/Keyboard & Mouse/Mouse and set the right click to Secondary button.

Now that is good to know! I just took a quick peak and it looked like it only had one button, so I left it in the box. I didn't even notice that it was a two button mouse now... thanks.

Hey guys, I ordered the 2.93, HD 4850, 640gb HDD, 4gb RAM and the wireless mighty mouse :)D) on the 6th of April and it should be arriving on the 17th of April. Does anyone else have a date similar to mine with the 4850?

I'm in Sydney if that means anything to you.

I must be trying to drag the wrong icon because it won't place the firefox icon in the applications folder. I'll figure it out eventually.

Try this, once you have firefox up and running on your mac, then look in the dock to see if it is there in the dock. If it is, then right click on the icon, and choose keep in dock. Then it should stay there everytime you boot up.

Let me know if that works?

24" 2.4GHz, 1gig RAM, 320gig hard drive

I'll be bumping up the RAM to 4 gigs soon.

Sad part is, I'm just now getting to use it. Downloading all the updates has taken me almost 9 hours!!! And that was with DSL of 5mps. Sheesh!

I am wondering why would you have to be downloading all these updates that are so large when you bought the computer. It should have came with the O/S disk and maybe had a minor update you have to do but not a 675 MB update. that seems a bit extreme. Did you turn on Time Machine by any chance and it was doing a back up of your system? That can take a while like hours while it is doing the back up. You may have thought it was downloading some updates when it was actually doing the initial time machine back up. Just a thought. If I am wrong don't get mad at me. ;)

Actually it does do a large 650+ MB update. I forget what version of Leopard was on my install disc (maybe 10.5.4) and it required the large update to get it to 10.5.6. There were also a few other updates that needed to be downloaded as well.

Wizard,

Finally got Firefox to stay on the dock. And yes, the iMac did come with an O/S disk… I assumed that was for initial installs only and went right to “software update”. 675 MB was the O/S update only (and it really did take 4 hours to download)… the rest of the updates were for various programs (garage band, etc. etc), plus some firmware stuff. As for Time machine, no, I haven’t touched that yet…. Haven’t even so much as plugged in my external hard drive. I wanted to get the mac updated and running correctly first.

My Ethernet must not be set right and I’m waiting for my ISP to open at 8:00am. I did a speed check last night and it showed 375 kbps (46.9 Kbps). I’m paying Qwest $30/month for 1.5 Mbps (I was wrong about the 5 Mbps). Granted, this is slower than most choices, but it’s what I can afford right now (I haven’t had cable t.v. in 10 years – lol).

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Eventually, I’ll get this worked out. :) Oh, and I do have a dead/stuck pixel... lower 1/3 of the monitor, right smack dab in the middle. It's white and I can only see it on a black background, so it's not a big irritation.

oh Ok, then it must have been her ISP has some down problems. I stand corrected.

Switched to Mac

Got a Mac after using DOS/Windows Pcs for 20 years. New spec iMac 2.66Ghz 640GB 4GB RAM. For anyone wavering I would say go for it!
I am sooo impressed with this machine and Mac OS.
Everything handles like a dream: Apps just launch instantly. The screens a beauty and at 24" means you can have 2 docs or web pages open side by side. Really useful. TV looks good on it -Elgato Eye DTT Deluxe loaded no probs. I'm not a techie but I installed an HP C4580 printer wirelessly, no probs there either (I've seen some other forum users reporting issues).
And Time machine is awesome. I took a real chance when I hooked up my old (non Mac) Western Digital MyBook 320GB because Time Machine wanted to reformat it... I breathed in, trusted the Mac, clicked 'erase' and off it went - reformatted the drive to access all the drive space available and ran the backup.
And, have had a home Power Failure and 2 accidental electrical unplugs while the iMac was running. It shrugged off all 3 events.
Me now Newbie Mac lover !. However, no money left for MS Office so looking for compatible app: Found Open Office and NeoOffice. Need to read my old MS Office docs so I can convert and move on. Any advice welcome.

First post, hi everyone!:D
Ordered my first ever mac last Friday- 24inch 2.66ghz, 4GB Ram, 640GB HD etc. Its order status is now "prepared for shipment" and it says it should be due for delivery between the 24th and 29th which I thought was a bit long but I don't mind- can't wait for it. I'm in Ireland and my last Dell took only 2 days to arrive, however.

Got the HP wifi printer and AppleCare with it too. Just looking at tutorials for Leopard now as I have literally never used this OS before! I got so sick of how unreliable windows is and decided my sanity was worth a few extra €'s than a similarly specced pc.

edit: I'd also like to know whether ms word documents can be opened and saved by openoffice for mac?

Hello Everyone.

also purchased a printer mp620 (for $50) i couldnt resist.

even with the ati card my delivery date already states april 24-may1.

high five.:D

Just off the phone w/ Qwest. They checked stuff on their end and tested my modem. No problems. They're sending a tech out tomorrow to check the connection from the pole to the house. If no problems found there, then it could very well be a problems w/ the in-house wiring. $85 at that point for the tech to come in the house. The house and the wiring are 60+ years old.

So, I just called the landlord to ask which would be more cost-effective... the Qwest tech or an electrician from the yellow pages? Landlord's are a young couple, my age. I was speaking to her, and she was quite certain that her husband knew how to do phone lines. She was going to talk to him and give me a call back. BUT, she added that, if he didn't know how to do the phone wiring, THEY would pay for the Qwest tech or electrician to take care of the issue, and stated, "That's our responsibility, not yours." :) My landlords SO want to keep me as a tenant.

This is almost the same spec as mine although I went for the wired number pad keyboard. The machine is awesome. So fast, quiet and the screen is gorgeous! You'll love it.

It's here!

Arrived this morning:D I was just about to ring the courier (TNT - UK) as nothing on the tracking page on their site had been updated when they turned up outside the door.

All up and running with the exception of Mail - it won't see the SMTP server for some reason. Even got the WPA wireless network up and running with little trouble. :p

No doubt there'll be more questions shortly

FYI - I ordered on the 1st April, it shipped on 7th April and arrived on 14th

That may mean there is hope for me?! I ordered mine on the 4th April, it was shipped on the 7th April, no updates on the Apple website or anything. Will stop by on the way home to see if it's been delivered to the office.

Also just thinking about it because I ordered Applecare as well they will probably have to be merged somewhere for one delivery, that would probably take a day..

I just left it a while ( five minutes or so) and it found the server. Dunno what was up. Works fine now, though does take about ten seconds from hitting the send button to it actually going. Have imported my mail from Thunderbird on the PC:) as well as my bookmarks into both Firefox and Safari.
