Called the UK Store, very helpful they are going to send me a separate keyboard with numeric pad free of charge and let me keep the compact one as well!! :D They even appoligised because it would arrive after my iMac. Wonder if a few people are making this mistake??

Actually I went through the EPP store front that I get a discount through work which is a bigger discount then Ed store on the iMac, but less of a discount on the Pro...wierd. Anyway not sure why the timing is different, but I am sure we'll both be very happy in no time. :)

The timing difference definitely is interesting. Wonder if it had something to do with my upgrading to the 1TB drive. Ah well, I'm in no rush so it'll be nice to get the machine sometime in the next 2-3 weeks.

I still can't decide whether to order one. This was going to be my first Mac, but I don't want to be disappointed in 6 months time if new ones come out with LED screens etc!

I think I like this thread more than the one with everyone complaining about how expensive and stupid these updates were :).

Me too, we seem to be in the minority though! Just another quick question what happens when I sync my iPhone with my iMac for the first time. Am I right in thinking that as long as I copy my iTunes library over it will be fine. I don't want to loose all my contacts, sms's etc.

Here's what I have just ordered,

24' 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
640GB Serial ATA Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512MB
Apple Wireless Keyboard (Spanish)
Mighty Mouse de Apple

They said that my new iMac will arrive to Spain next Thursday but I can't believe it :eek:

Sebby, new ones will come out. You will be disappointed. But not in the same way as when a new PC comes along. Let me explain that statement.

I was a PC nerd for years, used to upgrade literally every few months. It's just not the same with a Mac. I literally forgot what spec iMac I had for a couple of years. Because it just worked and I didn't get hung up on specs. Instead I got on with using the great OS and software.

If you get one of the current iMacs, even through I think the value has diminished with this latest refresh, it will still offer you a lower 'cost of ownership' than a PC.

So what if LED screen versions come out in six months? Just sell your existing one and buy the new one if you really want to. They hold their value incredibly well, which adds to the low cost of ownership thing I mentioned to...

Personally, I'd go for the 2.8 Refurb but give it a few days will you because I want to get my order in first ;)

+1 on the "ordered" thread...

My second Mac.

The first was a mini and I'm hooked.

Thanks Steve, Tim, Jonathan & Phil... this is going to be an expensive hobby.... :rolleyes:

All these people saying these updates suck, yet all these people buying them :). It makes me feel more confident in buying one, if I ever do, might not have enough until the next gen iMacs.

The thread is way shorter than other buy threads were.

I picked up my iMac yesterday.

I got the top of the line iMac yesterday, I wish I could have gotten the ATI card but I didn't want to wait 4 to 6 weeks because I have been waiting since November. The 24 inch screen is rather overwhelming coming from the macbook. I am happy with everything except for the new keyboard, it seems so small compared to the screen and I miss the number pad. I tried to have them switch it out at the store but they would not and said that was a online store thing only. Also I do not like the Mighty Mouse, you have to click almost on the side to register a right click, so does anyone know of a really good mouse for the iMAc and I am tempted to buy the larger keyboard. Are there mac keyboards not made by apple? I guess I have to do some research. I did set up a 200GB partition for windows 7 and it runs perfectly. I now need to install some games and see how they run. But overall I am very happy with the purchase. So if anyone has any suggestions on a better keyboard and mouse let me know, and is apple the only mouse manufacturer that makes a mouse that scrolls both horizontal and vertical?

I'd take the mouse back and exchange it. I can position my finger just to the right of the scroll ball (actually just barely touching it) and my mouse registers a right click when I press down. Sounds like you got a bad one.

Placed my order for one yesterday :)

I got the 24" with the Ati card, the 2.95Ghz processor and 4GB RAM.

I bought directly from the apple website. The question I have, is generally how long is it before they charge your CC? Will the charge only go on when it ships, or right away?

I believe they charge when it ships. Which explains why I've been charged for my printer only and not the computer yet.

I got an authorization request to hold the funds on my debit card the moment after I placed the order, so while the charge may not become final until it ships, it locks up the funds as soon as the order is processed online.

Bought mine today after trolling these forums looking for random guesses on release dates on the new iMac since November! This is my first Mac Desktop (I own a Titanium Powerbook)..

IMAC 24"/3.06/1TB/512/SD
With the following configuration:
* PROCESSOR 065-7995 3.06GHZ INTEL CORE 2 DUO
* MEMORY 065-8042 4GB 1066MHZ DDR3 SDRAM-2X2GB
* GRAPHICS 065-8044 NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 130 512MB
* HARD DRIVE 065-8048 1.0TB SERIAL ATA DRIVE
* APPLE SOFTWARE - IWORK 065-8643 IWORK '09 PREINSTALLED
* MOUSE 065-8061 APPLE WIRELESS MIGHTY MOUSE
* REMOTE 065-7988 APPLE REMOTE
* APPLE KEYBOARD & USER'S GUIDE 065-8116 KYBD (NUM) & USER'S GUIDE

Went wireless on the mouse, and added the larger keypad with numeric keys. I also pre-installed iWork 09 and added the protection plan.

I know most of you tell me I should have gotten the ATI Card upgrade, but I just can't wait that long and I don't plan on doing much if any 3D gaming on this mac, it's my new home workstation. :)

Sounds like we got the same one, less the keyboard I swapped out (this was the reason I bought it on the apple store online), although I did stupidly pay the $40 to send it overnight (a man has his limits on how long he can wait! :) )

Mine has now shipped! No detailed tracking available yet, it's coming through UPS and they estimate delivery tomorrow. So fingers crossed!! :) It's anyone's guess as to when my keyboard will turn up?

Now that you mention that I remember having two charges for $1.00 each on my online statement right after placing my order. It seems with my bank they become final and for the full amount after Apple ships the product.

Just checked my online statement. It shows my available credit as quite a bit lower than the current charges add up to. it appears that the reservation on funds has taken place. Here's hoping that the charge shows up soon, as I need it as a proof of purchase for my companies employee purchase program.

Done and done

Got the 24"
2.93ghz
4gig RAM
GEFORCE GT 120
Wired Num Keyboard and Mouse

Finally upgrading my home computer from a G4 Titanium Powerbook.

No need for better graphics because I use my XBox for gaming and my work Mac Pro for 3D animation and video editing.
Since the hard-drive is rather difficult to upgrade or change in an iMac I just got the 650GB drive and I'll add externals as needed.

Total was $1691.00 + tax. I'm a NAPP member so I got quite a discount. NAPP pays for itself with one Apple purchase.

Awesome! I'm heading up tomorrow to get either a 2.66 GHz or a 2.93 GHz from the Buchanan Street  Store.

Can't wait! But what one would you go for? Let me know please!

Thanks

Just popped down to my local Apple store (Exeter) this morning and bought the 3.06Ghz model. The sales assistant told me I was the first person in Exeter to have purchased the new iMac! :D

I have waited so long to buy this machine and I am so happy with it. Runs like a dream and I am confident I will be happy with it for a long time to come! Viva la Macintosh!

Congrats! Did you get the Higher Edu discount? If so can you confirm the pricing for your model?

Cheers

Anyone know about the longer ship dates for education store orders? Started at 3-5 and bumped up to 8 with the addition of the 1TB HD.

Ordered yesterday...

I put in a call to my business rep at Apple to order my new iMac and he told me that the GForce 9400M won't support Final Cut Pro. I would have spent $1799 base to get an iMac. Plus, I'm on a G4 Quicksilver with a 17" ASD, no way to fit a 24" on my desk. Plus the single firewire shot it down. I wish I could have sprung for it though.

So I went with:
20" Refurb iMac
2.6 Ghz
2 GB RAM
320 GB Hard Drive
And the 4 TB Drobo

I'll upgrade the memory on my own. It'll be here on Saturday, and I get to keep my numerical pad on my keyboard. Plus the price was sweet! I'm glad you guys like the updates. I hope Apple comes out on top on this one.
