ordered the 2.93, 1tb, radeon graphics imac..

itll take a while to arrive but the hard part is over :)

Awesome! I'm heading up tomorrow to get either a 2.66 GHz or a 2.93 GHz from the Buchanan Street  Store.

Can't wait! But what one would you go for? Let me know please!

Thanks

Depends what your going to be using it for.
I had the exact same question when I went to get one yesterday.

I asked someone at the Apple store.. and said that I would be using it for browsing the internet, iTunes, and a just some simple photo stuff.

She told me that the 2.66GHz would be perfectly fine, plus you save like $300. And that they are both powerful machines.

Is the wireless keyboard a default option?

I really wish Apple would update the Mighty Mouse... it's horrible :(

new apple message

This is what i just received from apple in an email
"Good news! We're happy to let you know that your recent iMac
order will ship earlier than we originally anticipated.
We expect to ship the order by March 12, 2009."

although this is nice - should i cancel my order and drive to a store this weekend?

Also the wireless keyboard was not default. I believe I had to pay $20 or $30 extra for it.

I just ordered a 20" 2.66 ghz refurb! 2gb ram, 320 hd.... I know this isn't anything spectacular spec wise, but I am excited!! I am a pc user switching to mac. I just need the computer for things like internet, music, basic word processing... nothing crazy. So, I think this will work just great for me. A few weeks ago I was looking at this model for a $400 higher cost, so I feel good. I also went for the free printer as I have been in desperate need for an all in one since my crappy dell one went bizerk awhile back. I may not have took advantage of the new updates, but I certainly took advantage of the price cuts on the old ones! :D

If I were ordering a stock iMac, I would have driven to pick one up yesterday...

Congrats Jena55! I just purchased that same exact model for my kids. They'll use it for pretty much the same thing, plus some light gaming and photo editing. The refurb is a great deal. It is $500 less than a new one was Monday. I have the 24"/2.8 and it can handle anything I throw at it - video editing, photo editing, etc. I'm sure the 2.66 will be unnoticeably slower to them, and you! A good way to move into a Mac...

Top fella, thanks for that. Not quite so bad if you can snag one through there.

Yeah seems like a potential loophole to me. I was never asked to confirm my student status but I could have if they needed/ asked for it. Mine has now been confirmed as "In-Transit" it's in the UK so hopefully should be out for delivery tomorrow.

Why not.

I just received the 24" 3.06Ghz with the Nvidia card, that I ordered yesterday; amazingly fast delivery Apple!

Sad thing is I think its dead, going through the registration I kept seeing the spinney cursor more than I would expect. Finally when I get a desktop every 30 seconds to a minute I get the spinney cursor and the whole desktop freezes, the mouse moves but I cannot click on anything. I eventually managed to get the console app up and every time it locks up there are entries from md import (or mds import maybe) generating bus errors!

I've verified the disk and run a repair by booting from the install DVD, still got the same thing. I've just reinstalled it, same thing still.

The normal check on the hardware diagnostics app just finished and reported no errors, and I'm about to start the lengthy test.

Anybody else got one of the new iMacs and seeing this issue? Something is dead I'm sure, but Apple Support closed before I spotted the problem :(

I managed to order a 2.9ghz GeForce 120 model with apple care for only £1375 via education ... however now I'm wondering if I should cancel it and go for a new older 2.8ghz Radeon 2600 from john lewis for £1100 (they've saved me the last one)

Would the £250 saving make me smile as I play cod4???

What would you guys do?

Ordered mine :D

Their email is as follows:

Originally it said 8-day shipping with the number keyboard and educational discount, but this new ship date is 10 days from yesterday. What is wrong with them??

I received the same confusing e-mail today. I'm not in a rush, but the note indicates it'll actually ship a day later than I originally expected.

I got the same, except if you go to the tracking information on the site it updated the expected delivery from March 17-19 to March 7-13. So thats kinda cool.

Been waiting since Thanksgiving. 1st mac.

Upgraded for Free!?!

I bought the old 2.8 24" from the clearance section in the ED store, and even though it was still available last night, Apple upgraded me to the new 2.93 24 inch, for the same price, and It is getting delivered tomorrow.... Anyone else get such a steal? I was going back and forth between the old model and the new base model, glad I went with the old one!

I'm not sure if this counts, but to save a bit of money I just ordered a 2.66 GHZ 20" iMac from newegg. I also bought 4 gigs of ram to upgrade it. It may not be brand new and cutting edge, but the specifications make me happy. =)

I heard the 2600 Pro is comparable to the nVidia 8600? Can anyone verify this?

Ordered my first Mac in like 10 years last night.

Also picked up the new Airport Extreme and Canon MP620 printer. And Apple Care. $2,340.60 with tax and recycling fee with the student discount.

Oh, it originally said the iMac be delivered between March 17-19 but this morning I got an email sayng March 13. I'm in California.

I ordered the 2.93 24" iMac last night customizing only by switching to wired numeric pad keyboard and adding a remote. Got a 6% discount due to spouse's employer. :)
