Can't run FCP?

Is it really true the new iMac's graphics card won't run FCP/FCE?

If so, it would be better to get a refurb one, no?

Unboxing iMac 2009 slideshow - enjoy

I am SO getting one of those iMac's - just can't make out if I'm choosing the 16 core graphics or the 32 core graphics ..... I wonder how much faster the 32 core will be running Snow?

I ordered the 2.93GHz 24" model with the ATi Radeon 4850 HD to replace an old 3GHz Pentium 4 machine that has been out of commission for some time now. The estimated ship date is April 15th but I'm not in a rush so I'll wait patiently.

I got the same, except if you go to the tracking information on the site it updated the expected delivery from March 17-19 to March 7-13. So thats kinda cool.

Weird, mine still says 17-19. Again, might be because I went through the education store, but I'm in no rush.

I stand corrected, just checked my order and now it does say ships in 1-3 days, but the delivery date remains 17th-19th.

Dudes, did you guys realize that the, THE oldest member on our forums other than arn himself, just posted his first post?

This is an end of an era.

Apr 2001 - Mar 2009.

Epic. Simply epic.

I can't say congratulations to those of you that have purchased the new imac. I told in another thread not to buy the new machines to make Apple take care about their customers and no to their profits. Here in Europe minis are 100€ more expensive that old models, no way. The imac is far more expensive too and not to mention the piece of junk that are the 9400m integrated graphics. So please stop buying new imacs, Apple are stealing your money. Don't pay attention to their graphics tests, they are a group of liars.

That's your opinion. I ordered 2.93GHz with GT130. It's 100€ more expensive than 2.8GHz with 8800, but I get 4GBs of DDR3 and slightly faster processor and GPU.

In fairness to Apple. The only thing I think they really did wrong was give the entry 24" model the integrated graphics. I would have ordered immediately if that wasn't the case. The next model up is too much of a price hike in the UK and you can't upgrade the 2.66 model to standalone card or downgrade the 2.93 model to a 2.66 (and still get the seperate card).

I would have happily paid a little extra for 4GB mem, bigger HDD and 1066FSB (despite the slower CPU). As it stands I've just ordered a refurb 2.8 for £949.

Yeah, I'm quite confused...

My custom config iMac was to ship within 3 business days (1 business day has already passed)... but delivery is set for 13/3/09.
Shouldn't it arrive before that date?

You're right, but that's the question, the price must remain the same, not 100€ more, there's no justification by the speed/size of memory, we're in 2009 so DDR3 and 4 Gb is gonna be the standard. We're in an economic crisis you know and that's not a good move from Apple. And from the slower models, integrated graphics isn't a good move ,I can show you tests, NVidia 9400m (mobile) shared memory isn't faster than the older ATI HD2600 PRO with dedicated memory.
I'm sorry was hard in my previous words but this update comes late and expensive.
The configuration you choose is the one that I've thought for my self. I'm complaining about the prices and the slower configurations. Enjoy your new imac :)

I agree that the price should stay the same. We can't just keep moving on and every year the prices go up and up. Thats not how it works Apple ...
I feel like Apple really WANT to make their computers loads more expensive than others ... for some reason. Even in an economic crisis!

How sexy is the iMac.. seriously.

Can't wait for this to arrive

Look in my sig for the specs of the one I ordered.

I ordered it from Apple Australia the morning of the release and my delivery date is the 23rd of April. Making me wait for a video card that has been out since the middle of last year really ticks me off.

When it comes to the Australian pricing remember that the Aussie Dollar is weaker vs the Greenback than when the last iMac's where released. I was expecting the price to rise.

I ordered:

2.93ghz
4gb DDR3
640gb HD (I've already got more hd space than I know what to do with.)
ATI 4850

But delivery in April? *sigh*

I'm impatient. I wanted the wireless mouse and number keyboard. I had also bumped from the GT120 to 130 without any real need for it. Last night I went to the store, canceled the online order and bought a standard wired kit. :D I love it! I went home and ordered a Logitech diNovo Mac edition and an MX Revolution. That little mighty mouse actually hurts my hand. It's too small. So I think I'll be happier this way.

Ordered this morning as soon as the website was up!

2.66GHZ INTEL CORE 2 DUO
4GB 1066MHZ DDR3 SDRAM-2X2GB
1.0TB SERIAL ATA DRIVE
APPLE MIGHTY MOUSE
WIRED KYBD & USER'S GUIDE
COUNTRY KIT,IMAC 24

Estimated Delivery: March 17th :D

Decided I didn't need the extra hard drive space so I cancelled my order and picked one up in the store last night!! The 24" screen is amazing!!!!

This is the "I ordered an iMac thread", not the "I'm whining because Apple didn't build the computer I wanted for the price I wanted" thread, or the "I live in the UK/EU and am getting screwed by Apple's poor pricing" thread. There are enough of those to post in; go away and leave us alone.

:D Glad to know I wasn't the only one. I walked in the door and my wife said "Oh geez, I should have known."

Pick up an external. I got a 1TB MyBook Home Edition from Dell this week for $119 shipped. It showed up in 2 days!

ATI vs nVidia

I just purchased my first 'new' mac. I've had several used ones over the years, but I just went all out and got:

3.06GHZ INTEL CORE 2 DUO
4GB 1066MHZ DDR3 SDRAM-2X2GB
ATI RADEON HD 4850 512MB
1.0TB SERIAL ATA DRIVE
APPLE MIGHTY MOUSE
KYBD (NUM) & USER'S GUIDE
COUNTRY KIT,IMAC 24

I can't wait for it to arrive, but was wondering what the opinion was on getting the ATI card over the nVidia one?

I bouth mine last night at the store...

I went to the Apple store last night to purchase my new 24" 2.93GHz iMac with 4G of 1066Mhz DDR3 ram and 640GB SATA. When I got their they had both the new model listed above and the old model (2.8Ghz CPU, 2GB of 800MHz DDR2 ram and 320Gb SATA). So I thought I'll test them myself before I make the purchase. Ok so here we go, now my testing may not seen all that indepth or even accurate but it does raise some serious questions for me that maybe someone else can answer. I rebooted both models, waited about 3 minutes after reboot just to make sure that all software was stable (probly not necessary). I then opened iMovie 09 on both machines (I assumed both had all apple updates, I forgot to check) and selected their preinstalled sample movies which are identical on both models. Then I went to share and exported both to the documents folder in the exact same format, I think quicktime. I then had my beautiful assistant/president (AKA my wife) start one at the same time I started the other. The results with about 3 minutes of their video, on the old iMac took about 5 minutes to complete... And the new iMac model took just at 3 minutes longer to complete the exact same process under the same conditions and starting at the same time. I also opened iPhoto and selected a randem album that they had, again same album on both machines. I opened the edit mode in full screen. Then I simply held the right arrow key down to scroll thru the pictures, you would not believe how much faster the old model seemed blaze thru the pics compared to the new model. Again this may not be a true bench mark but I urge you to go test for yourself. The verdict for me, Well I walked out with a brand new 2.8GHz previous model for $1400. Sure hard to beat that as it was $1800 on Monday. I set it up last night and WOW I should have got this a year ago. If anyone has insight as to why the new model may have seemed so slow please tell me now so I can take this back and exchange...
