Just ordered the 2.93 with a g130 upgrade and the bigger keyboard from the apple online store. I got a nice discount because I was able to use the epp store for my company.

Fine, I wouldn't be fussed about 9.99, but is there any definitive policy?

The 9.99 was just for iLife, an OS would be much more, I'm assuming. I don't know the policy though. Best thing to do is to call Apple and ask.

Okay, thanks. I guess depending on what they say, it might be worth me waiting for Snow Leopard, especially given that this will be my first Mac.

YES! You can get the Education discount at Apple Stores.

off shopping tommorow, so does anyone know if you can get the edu discount in store?

Just be sure to take proof that you're connected with the educational institution when you go to the Apple Store. Pay stubs, school ID's, etc. all work.

Great discount, so go for if you qualify.

Probably the same as Microsofts policy...I doubt you're going to get any software for free, especially an OS. If they charged 9.99 for iLife, expect to pay for Snow Leopard.

My 2 cents.
It was $9.95 when they had the up-to-date program for Leopard, so if it's offered for Snow Leopard, I would expect the price to be the same. However, Apple has yet to announce any such program since Snow Leopard has not yet been released, so I would not count on anything being offered or any specific purchase date range just yet.

Yes, they take it in store. I have no id or anything, but I just logged in (online courses) and showed them my current courses and they gave it to me.

I ordered the 3.06 ghz with the Radeon card, wireless mouse, keyboard with number pad, etc. Mine is not due to ship until April 18. When I visited the Apple Store they said they had had the new iMacs and I should call and find out what was taking so long. Well, I got a long story about mine being custom, but after reading the postings I agree its probably the Radeon card. They also said the computer was coming from the United States when I mentioned that other computers coming from China arrive faster. They did offer to upgrade the shipping so I would get it a few days faster. Hmm.

First post, first Mac. I just ordered the low-end iMac. Any tips for a first-time user?

Yes I am 100% sure it was 2.93GHz and not 2.66Ghz. I actually did more testing than stated before, I actually was amazed and tested the same old model against a different 2.93Ghz model and got almost same results +/- had to be seconds. I then tested a different old 2.8GHz model against the new 2.93GHz and near identical results. I also tested against MacPro 15" unibody not sure the speed but it also took around 5 minutes to complete, but I did not test this one directly against the new iMac as far as starting both rendering at the same time. I also asked the apple people who were their and they had no clue. I only ran across one 2.66GHz 24" there and didn't really even touch it. I'm going back to play some more. I want to make sure that both have lasted software updates. Still I am very pleased with the old model I got last night, but like I said my luck Snow Leopard will require 2or3GB of memory and 320GB hard drive space, lol... I already have to get rid of my Photoshop 7 now, boo-hoo. I'll use the money I saved on the old iMac to get cs3 or cs4.

Congrats!
I was lucky, I bought the 'old' 2.8 right after it came out last year and I am fully enjoying it. So far it has held up splendidly and it still feels fast as on the first day, even with the 2GB standard RAM.

I also use one of the new Macbooks and was quite disappointed how slow this one feels against the iMac. I suspect that it might be that the new DDR3 memory is really not so fast for normal - day-to-day tasks. I have read that is has a higher delay than DDR2. And there was a time in the transition from DDR1 to DDR2 when there was a similar situation, that the new memory was slower than the old, which only changed once they upped the memory clock-speed. However, I have no hard evidence to back up my suspicion.

24" flat panel quality

Hello!
Can someone help me please?
I would like to change my old Imac 24" (the white one) and i like the new iMac. I need to know what kind of flat panel the new 24" use. Is it still a good H-IPS panel? Do you know this?
Thanks a lot

The 2008 model was so I don't see why the 2009 wouldn't, especially as the prices have gone UP!

I've been saving money since winter 2008, including last year's annual bonus. I'm spending $4k on iMac, Time Capsule, printer, hard drive, RAM, software, and cables. Yeah, I've been waiting.

I have been waiting since December, and saving up. Now I am putting almost all of my money into the new iMac, and I am getting 250 EUR for my current PC system, which helps a bit. I am expecting to get the iMac by the end of the next week, or in the beginning of the next-next week.
