Why do you think the refresh will happen in august? What about next week? Don't you think it's possible?

Waiting for august is gonna be an eternity for me!
Mid August makes most sense from a timing perspective. It also depends on if Apple is using the new Intel chips released this month, and if so, when they got them. If they just got the chips along with everyone else, they need time to test/QA/implement them and even mid August may not be probable. If they got them early (depending on how early of course), they may be able to include them in the next refresh by mid August.

There is also a chance that the new chips will not be included in the next refresh and if that happens, the timing may mostly be based on when Apple thinks they can get the most boost in iMac sales (just before start of school?).

Makes sense. I agree. But low stock of imacs should not happen closer to middle of august?
Why is it happening now? i think it's too soon. Don't you?

Well,i have to wait like the others. it's killing me!

I'm not expecting the update until later August to mid Sept.

I have money waiting, I'm so looking forward to replacing my 2001 Quicksilver...

Apple sent out another round of "Buy a Mac for college..." emails this morning, which may suggest that they're simply trying to clear out some more inventory before refreshing anything.

Then again, it could be a coincidence. Probably is.

I think, with apple, nothing is a coincidence.

Do you guys think Apple will still have the free iPod Touch deal once the new iMacs are released?

Runs till September 7.

So even if the iMac is updated before then, you can still get the deal with the new iMacs I'm pretty sure.

Is it normal for Apple to release a brand new products AND have a promotion combined with it?

I'm actually starting to think the refresh won't happen until September once the inventory has been greatly emptied out with back-to-school promotion purchases...

thoughts?

1: iPods are renewed in Octobor, BtS is also meant for clearing out the iPod stocks, although they have enough time to produce a little ipods for filling the void between the BtS action and the new iPods.

2: BtS is indeed meant for clearing out mac stocks (in this case especially iMacs, Mac Pros and maybe even MacBook Airs), so they are empty for product refreshes. Maybe they even play the game this dirty that the new iMacs are already ready but that they are just waiting for stocks to be empty. I don"t think they'l just throw any good iMacs right in the thrash.

BtS if meant for clearing any specific product then it would be meant for clearing iPods but not anything else in particular. If you look @ the historical refresh of imacs then it is a confirmation no.

Ah, also good point...really the incentive is to clear out the iPod stock via free ipods...so even if a new iMac were released it would still only help to further clear out the existing iPod inventory...

By the way, would HDMI be possible on the new iMac? That'd be great =3
Connect your XBox to your iMac w/o an adaptor xD

I believe you can use the mini display port on the current iMac as input for an xbox or ps3.

I'm still holding out hope for an update this month, so I was wondering if multiple retailers are still showing declining stock? Anyone looked around lately?

I personally think next week, 20th, makes more sense for the update as most of the recent updates have been on the 3rd Tuesday of the month and it would tie in with the reduced stock seen at resellers this past week.

With the exception of the MacBook Pro which was updated on the second Tuesday - April 13th. Who knows. My theory doesn't apply anymore...so yours might be sound. I will be looking forward to July 20th...then July 27th...then August 3rd and so on until the next iMac is revealed.

That is the only thing we can do......
