The "I'm waiting for an iMac refresh" thread

imac refresh today,13th july?

Hello guys. It's my first time here on macrumors forum. I'm from Portugal and i'm waiting for an imac refresh as soon as possible. Do you guys think it will happen today? i'm loosing hope. Can you give me news to cheer me up? I really want a new imac.
Can we still expect news until the end of the day?

I'm in Cupertino time zone, and if it doesn't happen in next 5 hours its on to another Tuesday.
 
Some people from here told me that i must wait until 3 o'clock of the afternoon. It'll be 10 o'clock of the morning in usa. There's 5 hours of diference between portugal and usa.

correct, if it isn't up by 10 a.m. my time it's almost guaranteed to not go up today.

If cost was the only factor that influenced people's purchasing decisions we'd all be using crappy minimal spec white box PCs.

As to the iMac better value argument, I'll wait and see whether Apple changes the pricing structure at the next iMac refresh before commenting further. For all we know they'll add $200 (and £300,000/€350,000) to the price.

I'm all for spending money to get a better product, hence all my iPhones, iPods and MacBooks over the years.. but even I can't stomach the minis new price, especially with a crap 2 gigs ram standard. I agree on your stance for the iMac pricing but I'm not too worried about an increase. I'd rather buy the current base model iMac than the updated mini.

Fair enough. I suspect that the new mini is going to have pretty dreadful sales figures as just about everyone thinks it is ridiculously overpriced. I'm just making the point that it isn't a bad computer though, so if someone wants to buy it that's up to them. It's a shame really. If Apple had lowered their usual 30% profit margin to something a bit more suited for a supposedly entry level product the minis would have flown off the shelves.
 
i'm crossing fingers for good news today! Apple,don't disappoint us! We're waiting too much time for this. Come on!

Exactly, at 599 i might have even picked one up, it is a beautiful computer but the price kills me. Kills me even more knowing apple wont budge on the price until next revision because random price drops wouldn't look good for their ego.
 
Not to mention the mini debuted at 499 I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't see how they think they can get away with that massive price hike and still a core 2 duo.
 
Looks like the cycle is broken...no update today.

Well - my formula based on the last three months of Mac updates seems to be unraveling. It is now approaching 7:00 CST and no sign of an update. Now it is safe to say...all bets are off.

Now we are left to wonder why is Apple leaving the Mac Pro, Macbook Air and iMac in their current unrefreshed state. I understand that the Mac Pro is a low volume machine and the effort to keep it as fresh as the more mainstream consumer offerings may not be worth it to them - especially with the iMac's growing in computing power by leaps and bounds at the last refresh...but why not the MacBook Air and iMac? It would seem that Apple would want to keep these fresh and have new product ready for all the families getting their kids ready for college over the next month and a half.

I was so hopeful - but cautious in my optimism. With the huge SNAFU that Apple has right now with the iPhone4 they may not want to have any more releases of new product until they get that figured out. The last thing they need is another 27" iMac screen problem like they did last fall/winter.

Stilll - sad that there is no update today.

What are you talking about? It's 5 a.m. Pacific time aka apples time, I can remember them waiting until as late as 8 or 9 a.m.
 
I don't think it will happen today, since the store usually goes down before a refresh and the Apple store hasn't gone down yet, and its getting later in the morning.

Hey, we can talk about the possible refresh for at least another week now!

Of course not dude, but at this price you gotta have have expectations.

We have to remember that' its notebook hardware(not desktop, which is more powerful) so we're actually paying even more for less. Even if it's not likely that we will get most of this stuff, it's still a good idea to say our wants.

I think thats how they got Iphone updated so fast every year. lots of features every year.

Oh...don't worry...you, me and nearly everyone else will be religiously checking this site all morning!! Even though reality is slowly setting in that no update is coming...Hope will drive me back every ten minutes or so to check.

i am dying for a new imac!
i wonder if the apple store updates at the same time here in Hong Kong..

if it doesnt happen today our next hope is next tuesday, is it correct?
