He was the reason features weren't added to iOS. You think they would have chnaged the design in iOS 7 if he was still around? I prefer the new look much more. 3rd party keyboards? Again, no. and way more I can't think of at the moment.
I actually miss the old design.I really wish they hadn't changed the design of iOS, it's god awful now and ugly as hell. I really miss the the old iOS design, the one that made the iPhone and iPad exciting and attractive. Scott Forstall, unlike Jony Ive, actually knew how to design a proper UI. The previous look of iOS had a distinct identity and was undeniably Apple and was an absolute joy to use. Now iOS looks sterile, boring, inelegant, amateurish and unpolished which is not what anyone should expect from a company like Apple but then again, iOS is now being designed by someone who knows absolutely nothing about how UI works and should look. Minimalism works great for the hardware, but the software should be vibrant and intuitive which it hasn't been since iOS 7. I mean, what's the point of having retina displays if you're not even gonna take advantage of it in the way that you used to? Also the pre-iOS 7 UI was MUCH better optimized for the larger iPad displays and they took much better advantage of the added screen real estate and in many ways, the current iOS UI on the iPad is just a lazy scale-up of the iPhone UI.
As for the features, we may never know what Scott Forstall would've added to iOS since Cook fired him just after 6.0 was released. However, the music app, which is supposed to one of the most essential stock apps has gotten progressively worse after 6.1 (where it was at its absolute best) and now it's a complete POS to the point where it's not even worth using an iPhone as an iPod anymore which is ironic considering that was one of the original tentpole features. Believe it or not, a bunch of features have actually been removed such as the on-screen option to decline a call in the lock screen, the social media widget that was present in the iOS 6 Notification Center disappeared when 7 came out and hasn't return since even though it's still on the Mac. The terrible new music app removed a few features such as landscape mode and shake-to-shuffle. So while iOS has added some useful new features in recent versions, they also removed a bunch for unexplained reasons. I have said this before and I will say it again, removing features is un-Apple and from iOS 1-6, I don't remember features ever being removed, each version built on the previous one which is how it should always be.
Tim Cook should have kept Forstall on as he knew what he was doing and generally had a solid track record. I can't say the same for Federighi and Jony Ive should be kept as far away from software design as possible and at least bring in some profession UI designers who know how it's done.
I have been using iPhones since iOS 3.1.3. I think I know exactly how iOS has aged over the years with what features etc.I really wish they hadn't changed the design of iOS, it's god awful now and ugly as hell. The battery life in 3.2.2. or the last version of iOS 3...was great.I have been using iPhones since iOS 3.1.3. I think I know exactly how iOS has aged over the years with what features etc.
iOS 9 was great for performance IMO.
Just used Firefox on my iPad. It does tabs so much better than Safari. Open up a lot of tabs on Safari and then Firefox, you'll see what I'm talking about.
I want this too! A way of knowing you have notifications with 'do not disturb' turned on. I use 'do not disturb' because the constant vibrations and banners from messages make it hard to use the phone.I would like to get rid of the notification bubble above the app icons and have something at the top menu/status bar indicating a notification like Android. I switched to iOS but I really miss notification system .

File system/finder like application.
Built in download from the internet Functionality.
Better multi-tasking capabilities, I.e same app side by side. Also have a search function for the multitasking apps. It's gonna be a huge pain when hundreds of my apps have the multitasking feature and I have to endlessly scroll. Also make it easier to switch the multitasking app location ( as in left switches to right quickly).
Widgets on the home screen and a app draw/launch pad. Seeing just an endless amount of apps and folders looks boring and not beautiful.
Ability to plug in external hard drives, for devices such as the Pro, it's kind of comical I can't just stick in a USB from a client to grab some quick info and continue on with our work.
The most overdue feature since the introduction of Touch ID—lock individual apps with a passcode/fingerprint.
Yep. I am referring to Apple Apps (Photos, Messages, etc.).This is already available, its just that developers have to implement it. See Dropbox.
Unfortunately Apple seems to want to treat the iPhone and iPad as single user devices. With everything hidden behind the lock screen.Yep. I am referring to Apple Apps (Photos, Messages, etc.).
