I hope these add on functionality to block ads within apps

Cracked app drives me crazy with the app bringing me randomly to the app store.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but a quick tip if you have problems loading a web page whilst using a content blocker you can hold down the reload button and it will give you the option to reload the page without the content blocker.

This way you are just completely bypassing the blocker. Before doing that, I would try to except the page from 1) ad blocking, or 2) tracking blocking. Most blockers allow you to set this in the extension sheet. If neither of the two helps, whitelist the page and inform the developer.

AdBlock Plus explains on their site that they do take money to whitelist ads but they will still disable those paid whitlisted ads by unchecking the box that allows non obtrusive ads.

Yeah, but the point is that they are selling information gathered from their users. Even if they are giving you (at this time) the option to say “please block all, I’m not interested in how your business model works” they will continue to collect —and sell— data and at some point in the near future it won’t be necessary anymore to ask such stupid questions. Your data will be in the hands of companies where it shouldn’t be.

Best free adblock please?

Is it really so important if it costs 0$ or .99$ or 2.99$. Come on, iOS contentblockers are the best thing since sliced Safari. It has more impact on your every-day iphone-browing experience than any hardware update since 2010.

They are not selling anything to the advertisers. Ther advertisers are paying adblock plus to whitelist their ads and at the same time, adblock plus gives the user the option to still block those whitelisted ads. None of our info is being sold to anyone.

Not that I'm a big fan of Adblock Plus, but you are probably confusing this with Ghostery and their "Ghostrank" system (which is voluntary on an opt-in basis though). To my knowledge Adblock Plus neither collects nor sells any information about their users.

If you're going to accuse a company of collecting and/or selling data, please provide proof/documentation. Otherwise, if you aint got the data, yo chatta don't matta.

Well, I can’t prove this wrong.

But, as I already said, companies that are collecting data and are already making their living of that data, are very likely to not bother where they sell the data to, when it comes to selling.

They aren't collecting anything from users. Where did you get this from?

For those who have been asking, I am currently working on a review of the full version of 1Blocker. It will be posted later on today.

FYI I am using 1Blocker
I turned on all the custom options.
And found it was blocking macrumors.com
I looked at the macrumors.com page source and found '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
I turned off the specific rule under the "Block Trackers" tab and now macrumors.com working OK

Will look forward to reading your review

PS - also turned off the block "Custom Web Fonts" - it was blocking the folder icons

Nice. This demonstrates the value of detailed configurability. 1Blocker seems the best in this regard so far.

I have no authority here, I just don't think there's enough room in your mouth for both of your feet.

I know that you don’t have any authority here. Now I know that you don’t have any competence either ;) (Just by judging your statements, sorry.)

That line of code on MacRumors allows Google to track so many things as found on this page:

https://flippingbook.com/help/publisher-2/faq/what-can-i-track-using-google-analytics

Google collects that information and shares it with MacRumors or any website that uses Google Analytics.

I run a few websites that are ad free and always will be. Google sent me emails before telling me about Google Analytics and how it could help me run my site. I trashed the email.

Ehm, one of the main points of content blockers is to block exactly that kind of things (google.analytics).
Every webpage will run fine with google.analytics blocked. Except they’ve done further measures…

There are alternatives to google.analytics out there, everybody is free to use them!

So far Admop is the fastest and most reliable at blocking, but it lacks whitelisting which is a BIG no as not all adverts and sites are bad. I want to choose who I support.

Ad-blocker for Safari is also crazy fast, has whitelisting but does not handle all adverts and white space. T3 gadgets still leaves some adverts for example.

Crystal - breaks more than it fixes

Purify - too slow

LOL, purify is the best. It is the fastest of them all. It has a great developer who is a genius in content blocking.

The review for Adblock-Multi has been posted.

Edited to add: I have made an addendum and correction to the review noting the developer's Facebook page for contact and support. It is also found in the app under settings > learn more.

where is the review?
