Sorry Moz, I didn't see that you had responded whilst I was uploading the new photos.

All we've seen of "standards" applies only to America so far. It's entirely possible that other countries will have slightly different looks to them, depending on government regulations. That being said, I expect Canada and the U.K. to resemble the U.S. maps.

Totally agree...it appears just based on current map info and Apple car sightings tha they will be the same. Japan (and China as well) have always been different based on their existing data (like the stoplights). I still hope it will change over time.

I would also expect Apple's own map in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada to be pretty similar to the map for the United States, except for already existing differences of course like localised road signs and different road colours for some roads in the UK and Ireland. I also believe that Apple won't show the detailed baseball fields in the UK, Ireland and maybe Canada as well and instead focus on adding detail to playing fields pertaining to sports that are more popular in these countries like football/soccer, cricket and rugby.

Oh, just found out Japan has been released. I don't know how I did not find that out sooner XD.

I think the baseball fields, pools, tennis courts, golf courses, etc. were nothing more than AI interpretation of those places from the satellite images.

If there are actually baseball fields in the UK/Ireland, I'm sure they'll show up. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do to differentiate soccer fields from rugby fields or cricket fields...they'll all just show up as lighter green areas most likely as they do in the US versions of those areas.

The popular in Japan (and here, to an extent) messaging app "Line" is now compatible with Apple CarPlay. That'll make my fiance happy, as I can no longer use "I was in the car driving!" as a reason for why I didn't message her back.

I'll give it as a try also, as I usually try out the new Google Maps updates just to see if they bothered to improve anything on their iOS app.

I was kind of hoping for the traffic light update to see how they did, but will be happy to have police notifications. Typically on a long drive like this, I will run Waze in the background just for the road notifications.

There was an earlier discussion about where Apple was getting it's camera information (as opposed to Waze that gets it from users). Well on my drive to work (Brooklyn, NY) they installed an extra speed camera on Ocean Parkway (about 3 blocks after another one that was there for a while) sometime during the past few months. Waze notified of it but its isn't on Apple Maps.
Waze works better with the cameras - especially since it will notify you even if you are not using directions - but lately the audio prompts (I just have audio notifications set just for alerts) will not work. Also, you used to able to tell Waze to shut itself down using the microphone in CarPlay but now Waze looks for someplace called "Waze Quit". Don't know if that is a beta issue or a Waze issue.

I just opened the new Google Maps update on my iPhone, and I still can't get the "report" button (for reporting traffic, speed traps, etc.) to appear during navigation. This is so stupid. That button first appeared at least six or seven updates ago, but for me, it only occasionally shows up, then usually vanishes forever, and never appears on CarPlay at all. Was hoping that this update, which adds Google Maps to the dashboard, would have ironed out these other iOS issues.

Also, as a bizarre sidenote (of Google knowing too much of our personal information), as of two updates ago on Google Maps, the app no longer took me to the location I had programmed as my "Home". My apartment building's garage entrance is two blocks away from the actual front of my building. Since I obviously want my "Home" to be my garage, I had my garage set as my "Home" for the past two years.

Then suddenly, after an app update, Google Maps no longer recognized my garage (despite the Home icon still being there), and began directing me to the actual front of my building whenever I chose to go home. Not quite sure how Google Maps decided that it knew my actual address, which was never programmed into the app. Probably something to do with my Google account information or something.

I tried on this update to relocate my "Home" back to the garage, but if I placed the marker on my driveway, it would randomly set my home location to the middle of my neighborhood, a number of blocks away. I finally fixed the issue by removing my home address entirely, long-pressing on my driveway, and then setting the label as "Home". That seems to have worked.

Yeah, we'll need to learn how Apple plans on updating this camera information, or if we need to do it ourselves by "reporting a problem", as always. lol

It works. But I noticed that moving around on the different CarPlay screens while Google Maps was running on the dashboard caused significant slow downs at times. Even almost freezing for a second while moving back to the dashboard screen.

I didn’t see any other improvements or changes within the app. Similar to what was mentioned about new speed cameras in the Apple Maps beta above, new cameras don’t appear yet in Google Maps, either. For me, while existing cameras appear on the map, there’s no audible warning when approaching one.

And the “reporting” feature for police and traffic still won’t appear or work for me on Google Maps. Oh well. Back to Apple Maps!

Well...I only lasted on Google maps for the first three hours of my trip.

No speed trap or construction notifications despite going through a few. Was really surprised about the construction. Wasn’t even new construction.

And then for no reason, it would just stop navigating...just shut down for no reason.

I just hate the way it looks...always have...it’s so choppy.

Would love to try it on Android as I’m sure it’s a much better experience.

Yeah, Google Maps is a whole nother world on Android. But I'm an iPhone guy, so OH WELL. lol

I like the way Apple Maps presents directions a ton better.

Glad to see the improved vegetation detail, especially since I live in a country without the new map. I will check it out and try to imagine what my area will look like once Apple's own map data has been rolled out over here 😂. Just like with Google Maps in general though, I vastly prefer Apple Maps' design, UI and colour palette.

Have you guys seen this?

220 countries worldwide at launch, impressive stuff! 🚀

Based on the fact that it is 100% AI created, I still think there will be a huge difference between what Google is doing and Apple's carefully curated application. The question is, will this translate to Google Maps during directions, or just wildly different based on zoom level like it is with the limited colors today?

I guess we will see in a few weeks. 😉🖐

Nothing here...did a hard restart as well.

I wonder if it is only being tested with IP addresses in the UK?
Could be. Did anyone outside the US see the any of the US test releases? If not, you may be on to something.
