Looks great...I live in such a boring state. No tolls, no speed cameras or red light cameras that I know of, 75 mph speed limit in places.

BUT, I have noticed a change in Maps since iOS14. Very smooth and they did seem to release updated POI directions more dedicated to the entrances, particularly when going to a business around a mall or other large parking lot area.

I did use Waze yesterday to compare against Apple Maps directions and Maps had the better/faster route (a not well known side road/parking lot type of road) that cuts through to the main road I needed to get to. Waze would have had me sitting at two lights. The side road does exist on Waze...just don't understand what happened to Waze routing. It was my go to for a long time, particularly when I was commuting and wanting to see speed traps. Visually and functionally, it just doesn't live up to Maps or even Google at this point unless I am on a long trip of mostly highway driving just so I can see where police are located.

If you look at the first three photos of my post which ended Page 17, I unintentionally captured all three local road camera views. On local roads, the camera perspective will be from one of three positions, depending on the class of road.

New maps visible for me in the UK on MacOS Big Sur, not yet on either of my iOS devices.

On my route testing, I now get completely different routes on my phone and my computer for a 5+ hour drive from my home to a distant location, with 30 minutes difference between the iOS route and the macOS route. Google Maps agrees with the macOS route, but thinks it will be 15 minutes faster than Apple does. Looking forward to getting the new maps on mobile too in due course...

Am seeing the same problem with routes not quite getting to the destination - neither of these routes would get me to the hotel I was searching for here...

Click on "Report An Issue" and check the "arrival entrance". That seems to be the issue during the transition from old to new maps in some cases.

EDIT: Checked it out and yeah, that's what it is. Submitted a correction by routing to the hotel and then selecting report an issue. You need to correct on the routing screen though, not the POI screen, in order to actually see the incorrect arrival entrance.

Is it only with the new maps in the UK that people are seeing traffic lights and speed cameras? I’m not seeing either on the old maps.

I've used iOS 14 CarPlay for the past two days, so I have some initial impressions.

The new colors (wallpapers) for CarPlay aren't really doing it for me. They seem a bit low-res for my 9.2 inch HD screen, so I went back to the default black and white.

Apple Maps seems to behave a *bit* snappier on CarPlay versus iOS 13, but still does bizarre things, like bouncing around when you first open the app, or the screen not sliding over immediately when "selecting" from an on-screen option.

I might be crazy, but I think the little images which illustrate your upcoming turn (and the shape of the intersecting roads) have been updated.

The GUI has been refreshed, which is nice to see, but it's more or less the same. When choosing from available routes, they now more clearly display if you need to pay tolls on that route or not. Unfortunately, in CarPlay, Apple Maps STILL does not tell you the mileage of the different routes you can choose from. I can't fathom how they continue to leave that out.

When driving in night mode, there is a new graphical glitch I'm constantly seeing on my car screen. It looks like little white dots or sparkles that randomly appear and vanish all over the map. Not certain if that's a CarPlay (night mode) specific glitch, or if it happens on the phone as well. It's visible enough to be annoying.

I got to experience the speed camera alert this morning. It shows up on the map as just a small icon displaying the speed limit for that road (unlike the UK, which includes the UK traffic guide's standardized logo for a speed camera). I guess Apple Maps is tracking your approximate speed (even though it doesn't display it). If you drive above the posted speed limit, the icon on the map turns red (similar to Waze), and Siri makes an additional announcement advising you to slow down. The icon on the map seemed to be roughly 400 to 800 feet prior to the actual camera. Maybe that's intentional to make sure you slow down before you reach the actual camera.

While Apple Maps on my phone now defaults to the 3D view when I open the app, Apple Maps on CarPlay continues to switch back to the 2D view after cancelling or completing a route. Which is annoying, because then I have to switch back to 3D again.

On iOS 13 CarPlay, there was a "glitch" where the POI icons and street name bubbles would sometimes display at an unusual size. Unplugging the phone and plugging it back in (to restart CarPlay) usually fixed that. On iOS 14, I haven't had to do that yet. It seems to be the correct size always.

The looking forward view while navigating (which I obsessed about in the transition from iOS 12 to iOS 13) is still straight behind the car arrow on local roads. On iOS 13, switching to the route overview and back would give the view a slight angle to the right. In iOS 14 CarPlay, that *slight* view adjustment after switching back from the overview is even less pronounced than before. It might be gone entirely, and I'm just seeing things.

The "car arrow" also looks redesigned. The stop signs also seem larger.

Great review, looking forward to the new features. The new maps temporarily appeared on my partner’s phone and they looked really good, plus included 3D buildings that weren’t there before. Definitely looking forward to the speed camera warnings ;-)

I don't understand why it is so inconsistent with some things. Sometimes it will auto suggest work/home and sometimes not. And it's the same time of day every time. And then for home sometimes it will say home and others the address. And work is even worse. Either work, the address, or the name of the company, which isn't even correct anymore. It was changed years ago.

iOS 14.0.1 seems to have *somewhat* fixed the Apple Maps night mode "flashing white dot" glitches. It's still occurring, but much less often than previously. I was also able to confirm that the same glitch is occurring on the phone, and not just on Apple CarPlay.

I've got the public beta for 14.2 and still seeing it.

They still have not fixed this massive bug on Apple Maps. Here is what mine looks like:

The Home and Work icons keep going berserk on each other. It’s wierd and they didn’t even fix it for 14.0.1.

I haven’t experienced any issues with my favorites there...I don’t commute anymore, so it is other locations that take up that space. Not sure.

I have this issue on macOS Big Sir but not on iOS 14. It makes my Mac go crazy and the fans start spinning and it becomes unresponsive.

London has support for Cycling Directions in Maps according to the watchOS Feature Availability page. I have tried getting Cycling Directions between different places within London. It tells me that Cycling Directions isn’t supported in London when I try it. Does this mean that London will be the next city with support for Cycling Directions? I guess it would make sense if it rolled out around the time of the public release of Apple’s own map data for the UK and Ireland. If anyone is able to see the new map data for the UK and Ireland, could you then try getting Cycling Directions between places in London and see if it works?
London has now been removed from the list.

When I saw this thought I would take a look and noticed something strange ... Imagine that!

Home tells me “Close by” when I am at Home.
Work address in Contacts has two addresses. Maps tells me to add my “Work” address as it gets it from Contacts.

Don’t know if it existed previously. Never checked.

Apple’s own map is now available in the United Kingdom and Ireland for everyone. Look Around is available in London, Edinburgh and Dublin. Cycling Directions are available in London. Read Apple’s press release here.

Look Around and Cycling Directions haven’t gone live just yet. Update 1 - Look Around is available for me in all of the three mentioned cities now. Still no cycling directions in London though. Update 2 - Cycling Directions are now live in London. Update 3 - Cycling Directions seem to be slowly rolling out, they have only worked with a few locations that I’ve tried so far.

Doesn’t seem like they added more cities with Look Around in the US or Japan while they were at it.

I have it now. Currently in the North Sea & Apple maps now has it down as the North Atlantic Ocean!! This now defaults over to the 3 weather apps I use as my current weather location. Latitude and longitude are correct, just place name is now wrong. When I went to bed last night it was correct. Precise location is on, I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled maps & I’ve sent in feedback.
