I’m in MI…and spelled it wrong…and it still brings up what you were looking for. Hah.

Siri is different though…will try it in CarPlay when I get a chance to see what happens.

Remember my post about this stuff?

Here’s what shows up when I start typing in some letters right here in Queens. Why does Citi Field show up?? No letters match!

Also, I might be going crazy, but I think Apple updated some sort of base layer on Maps today. I’m seeing some new “roads” represented on the map that were never there before. I have them circled in blue in the photo below. These aren’t open to the public, and are only used by “Official Vehicles”, and yet they’re now on the map. I went looking around for changes I’ve submitted that would actually be useful to the public, but nothing else has noticeably changed in my area.

In the Vegas photo, it looks like the ground color in Vegas, even when zoomed in, is now represented by a darker, more deserty shade of ground. That also appears to be new.

No, I only vaguely remember this being a topic of discussion at one point.

To summarize in one sentence…Siri (or more specifically, CarPlay) seems to have different parsing rules than the phone by itself….and I get it (from an Apple engineer logic point of view), but it also doesn’t make sense a lot of the time.

Apple released their own map data in the United Kingdom and Ireland in October of last year. Apple hasn’t officially confirmed when they are going to expand their own data to more European countries. I would expect Apple to give us a road map of upcoming expansions planned to be released throughout the rest of the year at WWDC. Italy is one of the countries that are the most likely to receive the new map data next according to an analysis made by Justin O’Beirne.

Ok, thanks a lot for the answer!

I have looked at reports about speed cameras over on the subreddit, MacRumors and 9to5Mac. The following countries have been mentioned: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Czech Republic, Finland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, Sweden and Taiwan. To summarise, the expansion seems to cover at least 15 countries (or parts of these countries).

Based on the reports, it looks like the speed camera icon is a camera with a yellow background everywhere. Hopefully Apple will, if necessary, change to icons resembling local signage (like they did in the UK) once it releases its own map data in these countries.

Got to say that I’m a little surprised by this. I thought that I would have to wait until Apple releases its own map data here in Sweden to get speed camera alerts.

Speaking of Apple's own map data, I'm seeing problems with their Image Collection website:

The main page works, but clicking on the link to the page listing all countries results in an error.
I also started noticing this roughly a week ago. At first I thought it happened because Apple was updating the page with new locations, but the problem hasn’t been fixed since.

I’m surprised as well. I remember a while back many (if not ALL) of us here thought this was tied to new Maps releases. At the time, it seemed to be the case, but this seems to say “not anymore”!

My guess…Things like speed camera locations are not something that can easily be seen (or at all) by Maps car cameras, so I’m guessing they either get the locations directly from local government or a 3rd party. This allows them to release it into current map data like they do with POI info.

I do think it is a sign that Apple is feeling more cozy with releasing map data/updates more frequently which is a good sign for those countries that haven’t seen an update yet.

Some surprising news. Hong Kong and Macau are being mapped by car from April through June.

Apple has also updated the page for Germany. Berlin and Brandenburg have been added to the list of locations that are being mapped by car. These locations will be mapped from April through May. Data collection by car in Baden-Württemberg, Bayern and Hessen has also been extended by 1 month.

The Netherlands and Sweden have been removed from the page, but they haven't had any data collection scheduled for a while.

Update: Hong Kong and Macau have been removed from the list.

Weird...the yellow 3D buildings on the left don't even look the same between our two screenshots!

is the searching mechanism in Apple Map different from google map?

It looks to me Apple Map search works based on street addr and rely heavily on proper poi mapping to search for buildings and landmark places, while google map works much better and seem not required poi mapping.

could you shine some light on that?

Hello, any evidence in hk being mapped?

I was going to send you the link to the Apple Maps Image Collection page, but it seems like both Hong Kong and Macau have been removed from the list.

I had been keeping an eye on Apple Map data collection schedule but I was disappointed hk had never been on the list given hk was used to be an international city.

some forum members commented that Apple dare not to collect data in hk after the national security laws was enacted.

Maps let’s you do incident reporting without routing in the latest 14.5 beta.

Hit info button in upper right side

EDIT: Only works on my iPhone and not my iPad (just updated to latest beta)

Tks for your updates.

I think one of the posters said he was able to rate a local business for uk (probably able to provide photos too?) in iOS 14.5.

I wonder if the new feature was only made available to uk users.
