To pretend Apple would give you some freedom with the App Drawer is quite disingenuous. I don't view it as Apple withholding options... I look at it as a means to build upon. I think Apple will provide more option to the App Drawer over time, but it's their first attempt at an App Drawer that been a long time feature with Android.

Wait a darn min! Stop the Presses! You going to the iPhone after you went to war over it being 60hz! I imagined the days of you buying a iPhone were history since it's only 60hz, what is going on?? Lol
You mean home screen right? App drawer is just the pages with apps, home screen is what Apple hasn't had til now.
Or maybe they still don't have a home screen and it's just rearrange your front page lol.

Umm.. you looking at it backwards.

HomeScreen has been here since the iPhone was introduced. The App Drawer is a new software feature that was introduced in iOS 14. I would say a majority of users on this site.. don't like it. I'm indifferent over App Drawer because I make an effort to rearrange my HomeScreen however I want, naming folders and categorizing everything.

What people want in the App Drawer is something similar to what they already have in HomeScreen, which is puzzling to me. I believe the point with App Drawer is for newbies who wants to find an app.

You are right and the iOS UI is a bit confusing right now.
Home Screen: traditional Home Screen experience with apps, now featuring widgets (which I’ve already stated that I think they are useless for me)
App Library: that weird Apple sorting of apps into categories. It sounded cool but in practice I haven’t found it useful at all. I wish you could swipe over and have the App Library in in alphabetical form instead of those groupings. I'm weird and I keep my apps in alphabetical order anyways so having that easy scrolling list would have been an awesome option.

I'm not happy about it either, lol. It's more a need to try some new tech and a lack of good other options. Tried the Pixel 5 but it's just too midrange for me. Fold 2 is still an option but there's a lot of drawbacks. So it's either iphone or stay with my S20 Plus. But the lack of high refresh is going to bother me, I know it. But I like ios. I've always been someone that bounces back and forth.

As for the app drawer, I didn't expect them to ever add an app drawer. But they did and their implementation of it is the most Apple thing ever. To automatically create folders based on their grouping of the app and not let you create your own. It's dumb, but it's not a major issue.

Umm, hmm...well I don't know.
Android has dedicated home screens that you can have 1 to however many you want.

I use three with one as my main, the other two with apps I use most often after the main home page and then you touch the icon button down in the middle which takes you to ALL the apps in alphabetical order.

That's what Apple has. Apps all over. You may have a main page with what they think should be on it but it isnt a real home page as Android has and we can make it look however we want.

We are one click away unfortunately in this new app drawer ...

I was actually going to reply that to @jdlindsey7. But it's technically not a click away, its swipe down.

Yea true one swipe down away on the app drawer ...Tbh I don’t use app drawer and rarely the app icons ...before the latest update I used to have the ones in the middle in my dock and no apps on any screens..now I do just two screens for look with most used ...

I actually like that view in the screen shot. The mess of the apps and categories bothers me. I wish we could turn that option on/off. I would love to keep a blank home screen (just 4 home row apps) and then swipe over once for an alphabetical list.

Nice set up! But I have OCD with notifications badges, that 82 would drive me insane.

Yeah would be great just turn it on for alphabetical and clean ...just like a few Android launchers and many app drawers ..

Haha these damn emails I can’t get away ..that’s actually low number unread ...

Completely understand what you're saying but I think I read/heard somewhere that Apple's logic was that you can absolutely do that...with folders on your home screens. ;)

I really don’t get the 120hz. I played around with an S20 and have used it on the iPad pros.
It’s nice and smooth but it’s just not that big of a deal. It’s most noticeable when scrolling fast like a maniac.

Heck it’s been turned off by default on the S20 lol.

I’m sure Apple is adding it next year but they are never the ones to add every single feature in one release anyway.

Please don’t spark up this topic. Is it noticeable? Yes. Is it a big deal? Depends.. on the user. Having used a 60hz on the Note10+ and upgrading to 120hz on Fold2, I wouldn’t want to resort back to using anything lower than 120hz.

There is no official Pixel distribution in my country. It's nice knowing you can go to your local store and hand over your phone if something isn't working. Possibly send it back, but not outside the country.

I have Sony for that. I'm not a phone expert, I had several iPhones, bad experiences with Nexus 5 (no car profile on Android at the time), even worse with Samsung Xcover (useless brick with broken GPS and nasty GUI).

But Xperia 5 II probably convinced me. After the first run, I wanted to return it, I couldn't find myself in Android.

But the system itself is not much different from iOS, I got used to gestures (I have an iPhone 8 and I thought the next one would be SE 2020 but I don't want Touch anymore).

Plus, no complications when connected to a computer - you move data between folders, no tricks.

Jack socket, SD card slot and things that do not impress me, i.e. 120 Hz and 5G. No inductive charging, but that doesn't bother me (although it would probably be convenient in the car).

Nice workmanship, except for a terrible card tray - I think they made it out of a plastic drawer for chocolates- I'm afraid I'll break it.

I don't like the price. I think that the Xperia 10 II is too poor (apparently a terrible traditional application for taking photos, a bit too little RAM), and 5 II - too rich, maybe ideal for me would be cheaper 5 II without 120 Hz and 5G, say 7 II or 7 I :)

I've briefly seen on a friend's phone the new layout of iOS 14 with it's sort of app drawer attempt. Can you rename/rearrange these folders? And add or remove apps to them?

Well that's **** 😂
:D Coming from Android, of course it feels strangely limited. However, I think the way Apple presented it during the keynote was that it's for people who has a ton of apps but doesn't want the hassle of arranging them manually on the home screen. You can still make folders with your own names on the home screen.

And to be fair, on Android, not all skins allow folders in the app drawer. For example: Samsung OneUI offers complete customization of the app drawer including custom folders, but others like stock Android and eMUI don't. iOS' implementation is somewhat in between, allowing categories (folders) but not manually changeable.

I don't have folders in my app drawer but I do like them in alphabetical order. I think Apple wants iOS to be seen as very different from Android, no other reason for some of their silly limitations (app placement!).

App Library for me i won’t take much notice of...if the app i want isn’t on my Home Screen then i would swipe down and type. Far easier process for me.

I think I've satisfied my Android itch for now. I guess the features one platform offers over the other and how important those features are to different people is why there is such a divide but for me the pros of iOS are more important to me that the pros of Android. There are a few apps that I use frequently that I find better quality on iOS, I don't find gestures as intuitive on Android, Barclays Bank won't allow me to add cards to G Pay and sharing photos in other apps is a confusing mess. There are plenty of things however I do like (the Your Phone windows integration is great) and will keep dipping in and out but for now I'm looking forward to the 12 mini.

Same. Not an excuse for a subpar implementation by Apple per se, but rather I just don't use an app drawer, be it on Android or iOS. My everyday, most frequently used apps are on my first home screen, secondary apps that are used slightly more than just occasionally on page 2, and anything else is just found using a quick search. I rarely, if ever swipe up on my Pixel to go to the app drawer or swipe over to the last page on iOS.

Do the same on my iPad and Mac...most frequently used apps in the dock and a quick spotlight search for anything else. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I mean even on android swiping up to view apps I still end up just searching there as well so for me it's a non issue. Guess others my have different usage but for me searching seems quicker

Same. Using quick search in iOS or Android is much quicker than rifling through an app drawer with 200 apps.
