Seems as though the better buy out of all the iPhone 12's.. is the standard 12. With the 12 Mini, it's too small for most people, 12 Pro.. not too much difference to justify the cost, and the 12 Pro Max.. it's too big.

Yeah i think the 12 is the perfect for most people...battery life is good.my wife has said the battery life is very good on her 12.

I was hoping for a more dramatic difference between the cameras as well but, in all honesty, I’d be purchasing the Pro Max regardless, for the very things mentioned (battery and screen). Didn’t make a difference for me last year when the camera systems were identical and the price differences were also the same. Not an excuse for Apple but would‘ve been nice to see the additional benefits too.

I think I'll be getting the Pro Max too, but its weird that I dont feel too excited about it like I usually do. In a lot of ways, I feel like I'm downgrading from my S20 Plus. But the itch to try out new tech is just too great. I know the hardware will be great, but man I just wish that high refresh was there and it would be an easy buy.

I thought Joanna Stern made a great point about Apple's continued refusal to make the larger iPhone screen on the Max more useful. No split-screen multitasking etc; as she rightly pointed out, why can't she have her email split with her calendar?

As for the Mini, the consensus is that it's decent but pricey for such a small screen with pretty poor battery life.

MKBHD i wouldn’t even call it a review. Verge and toms guide went into far more detail. MKBHD has become frustrating to watch these days.

i think you if want a bigger screen, best cameras and better battery life the max is the best option but 12 pro you won’t be missing too much.
MKBHD has a huge audience and I think he has to limit the amount of technical detail he covers as it will appear boring to many. I watch a few different reviewers and don’t mind the more casual ones like him and even iJustine. I tend to watch them all and for different levels of technical content versus entertainment.

I agree with you....but MBKHD used to get into much more detail. But since he has gotten more popular and has more followers, it seems he has toned things down. He seems to me to be much more middle of the road than anything else.

I would even say that level of detail he used to provide is what built his current rather large following.....

I'm super excited about my 12 Pro Max preorder. I'm a sucker for big screens and am always a bit jealous of the various Android behemoths, but I'm happy to get at least another 0.2". Tried the regular Pro last year but ended up missing the bigger screen more than I enjoyed the smaller pocket bulge, so I'm happy to be back in the yuge camp. Also loving the boxy, stainless steel frame from my beloved 4S.

Yeah, I do miss split screen on iPhones. I've considered getting a big Android and a cheap, small iPhone for that reason (among others), but at the end of the day I'd miss the advantage of having my iCloud desktop docs right on my phone too much. Can't wait for Apple to be done teasing and just give it to us.

Regarding the camera, since the Max does have more versatile camera hardware, maybe with time they'll release software updates that allow us to make better use of it?

I can certainly appreciate some preference for this functionality. Personally, over all the years that it’s been available on any of my Android phones, I just don’t find it useful on a regular, routine basis. As big as a 6”+ screen feels, it’s just too small to be useful for me for multiple mini windows. I don’t even use the video pop-up window on my iPhone because the video is still too small and it takes up too much useable space of another app.

The only situations where I was glad to have it was when I needed to manually copy a password from 1Password because the auto-fill functionality on Android wasn’t working properly but I don’t usually find the same need on my iPhone as the auto-fill just works that much better and more consistently.

Not going to begrudge other’s desire for it...just don’t personally clamor for it on my iPhone.

I update items on my notes that require a calculator multiple times a day, so split screen is a huge benefit for me.

I'm still finding it a pain using the Pixel split screen, because I can't open them up at the same time and it's a lot smaller. Having to swipe back and forth will be annoying.

It's simple things like this that Apple should really be implementing by now. How long would it take a tech to whizz to sort out, a day?!

Anyone that pre ordered the Max, did you go to a store to check out the Pro to see what the colours looked like in person? I know I'll be happy with the graphite but I'm wondering if I should have got the gold.

Anyone who expected the 12 Pro Max to have a better camera than the smaller Pro and even regular 12 are going to be disappointed. And it was obvious it was never going to be much better.

I said it about my 12 Pro, there's really no reason for me to choose it over a 12. Especially now they're all OLED.
Still, at least there is a good selection of iPhones for all buyers now.

Well the pro max camera is better than the rest of the lineup just not a massive difference but I guess it's hard to improve that much certainly when the 12 and 12 pro are improved from last year anyway

I would say people waiting for the pro max are doing so for more screen and better battery life than just a better camera

I always order from Apple Store online .. I've seen them now at BestBuy after I got the blue ... Gold looks nice too.. I went to Apple Store yesterday to get a new watch band... Didn't even remember to see if they were displayed..

But are you really getting new tech with an iPhone? It may be new to iPhone but you have had anything they have for some years now on Android.

I agree. He is trying to appeal to the casual viewer too much which means quick videos without too much technical detail.

But after watching a couple, none of them act like the camera in the Pro Max is that much better than the 12 Pro. They even said dont get the Pro Max for the camera, get it for the screen and battery life. Which I agree is probably the biggest draws.
Not a good enough reason imo to spend $1199 but thats me. Id like more than just a marginally better screen and battery. If a battery gets me easily thru a day without charging it, thats good enough for me.

Going from 6.1" to 6.7" is a pretty big jump, hardly marginal. So for those that want the biggest screen, it's a huge selling point over the Pro.

But that's kind of irrelevant really if somebody prefers IOS. I would say though this kind of camera tech hasn't really been on any other device in recent years either.

That isnt what he said. He said he feels he is downgrading getting a iPhone 12 and never mentioned he prefers iOS. I think that you just prefer iOS and make these type of replies often with no merit.
Just like the Airpod replies saying most prefer this and that while somebody else shot your take down lol.

I think its pretty safe to say you do the same thing, just in the other direction.

I was assuming a better screen meant....you know, better, not bigger. In this case id prefer the Pro's smaller screen.
He said "get it for the screen", never said it was better. Which means people who would get it for the screen obviously like bigger.
