I just got the 12 Pro Max and I was hoping they would get. I suspect that they thought combined with 5G the battery life was unacceptable. Apple often waits to perfect something before they release it so I think it'll be worth the wait.

Battery life was certainly the reason. Seems they didn’t want to do it without ltpo. Certainly were testing it without though from the sounds but ltpo was never happening this year for apple not with the amount of panels they would require

I think battery was the reason, but I think price played a large part in it. I'm of the belief its a combination of price and battery. But more so price.

Apple is all about profit... when it all comes down to it. They like to have high margins when it comes to building iDevices. I can't really blame them because they make phenomenal hardware. But I think adding LTPO would drive up the cost of the iPhone.

And I think they wanted to hit that 1k price mark for the premium Pro models. Because if it was about battery... why release a smaller iPhone model? I understand customers like choices. However, battery will take a hit with that model.

I fully believe they had the pro max working with 120hz even without ltpo but choose not to as it would have meant the regular pro wouldn’t get it which would have been poor

Even next year pro motion won’t come to the regular models. Bet we won’t see pro motion on non pro models until at least 2022

Well profit is a consideration with everything in a business. I don't get why people pretend like Apple is unique in this. A company that's not about profit is called bankrupt and they don't make anything. Sure companies like Samsung might be more able to take a loss because they are diversified but you can bet that cost is still a major consideration with any product.

Why the smaller model? Because it's what some customers what. Customers who buy the smaller model know they are sacrificing battery life. It is also about battery life because it's not an "and" but rather an "or". People have the choice of more battery life that most customers want with the larger iphones or they could buy a smaller iPhone and trade some of it for size.

Not really topic related so apologies, but since my AW latest update I can only just about get a full day out of it. By bed time it is dead completely. Previously I was going to bed with about 45-50 percent remaining.

I don't interact with my watch at all other than the odd notification. But even that I find annoying when I can just pick my phone up and actually do something with the notification (reply, etc). I mean, it is Series 3, so getting on a bit now so may trade it in for some AirPods (if I can do that?) as I definitely don't want another watch.
I think when I last checked they were offering around £150 for a SS AW S3 but didn't know if that was just against another watch or any product. Would rather be shut of it and put it towards an item I actually like.

I think a more significant issue was being able to secure enough of the high refresh rate panels at the quality Apple expects, at least that was the reasoning provided by some insider. They sold over 200 million iPhones last year and considering I believe they're sourcing them from Samsung who are obviously keeping the absolute top shelf stuff from themselves first means getting the supply needed was problematic this year. Yes, OnePlus and Google have included high refresh rate panels but more phones than those two combined when Tim Cook blows his nose. ;)

I'm certainly in the camp hoping to see it next year as well but...and I promise I'm not being an apologist here...I don't readily notice the difference when I switch back and forth between my iPhone and Pixel so I'm not missing it....yet. I also have had it for years on my iPad Pros and again, it's not something that casually jumps out at me. I'm sure if I did some specific side-by-side comparisons, I likely notice it.

That battery issue has happened to me after an update too, although not this one. A reboot of both phone and watch + re-pairing the watch cleared it that time, so maybe you could try that.

4a 5G is definitely a nice smooth device.. But it takes time to get used to it after using my other phones.. Definitely see a difference with the lower chip...no complaints otherwise solid...

I was excited to come back to iOS after being on Android for 5 years. Mainly because I was tired of trying to jump through hoops to share pictures and videos with my wife. I’d have to use google photos. It would require a few extra steps for both of us. I would be fine sharing them, but it’s the last thing she would think about using when she would share something with me. It’s more seamless and simple with us both having iPhones with us being able to communicate with each other. I do find myself missing how easy it was to do things much quicker on my Pixel 4xl. I now have to think about which app I’m going to use. App settings and file sharing is still something I’m trying to get used to after 2 1/2 weeks on iOS and this is my only apple device. If it weren’t for wanting to better communicate with her, I would have gone with the pixel 5 or just held onto my 4xl for another year. I will say, battery life on my 12 Pro is so much better than my 4xl was. App quality and overall smoothness is also better. I haven’t run into any bugs or apps not responding. The software and hardware just works so much better together on iOS than any android phone I ever had. That’s by far my favorite thing about iOS. You don’t appreciate it until you’ve switched back and forth. Sometimes on Android, an app would update and would introduce new features but they wouldn’t quite work very well. Most new features come to iOS before Android.

I find Siri ok, but nothing more. With the amount of money Apple have, it should be pretty amazing by now.
Absolutely. I still find it astonishing a cheap Amazon echo has better voice recognition than my iPhone and Apple Watch lol. Considering Siri is now such an integral part of iOS, the fact it’s still not up to scratch is quite unacceptable really.

The worst is wearing an apple watch and siri kicking off because you moved your arm and him saying "im sorry I didn't recognise..." like who thought raising your arm to launch siri would be a good idea. That got turned off after the 10th time of it happening that day!

Siri is dreadful. I use timers every day and always go into the clock app to launch it because I just disable everything siri related. Android I just say OK Google and set it with my voice. Much easier.

I have an echo dot which I find pretty useful. But surprised it still can't listen to and identify music.

I have an Alexa device speaker as well but my wife keeps unplugging it lol. She's one of those who thinks everybody is listening to her. Except me of course lol.

Anyways you have a Pixel 5 that you mentioned, and I have a 4A And the Now Playing feature is awesome,.... you don't ever have to activate it and even tells me what the name of the songs of commercials are lol.

it's funny that you don't even really notice some songs playing in the background but if you look at that it shows you what you missed.

I ask Alexa if she's listening to me but she flat out denies it. lol Yeah, the now playing feature is great on Pixels. I'm no longer a Pixel owner though, just sold it and switched to the iPhone 12PM. Sadly, it's just too small for me and I don't think the extra 0.2" on the 4a 5G will be enough extra.

I have set up my 12 Pro Max, also have a Note 20 Ultra. My last iPhone was XR. Switching back to iPhone for awhile so my mom can message me from her gigantic iPad ? and stop sending me emails nonstop!

First impressions: 12 Pro Max is a nice phone but seems somewhat dated next to my Note 20 Ultra. The big notch and wider bezels as well as the software make it feel dated. The square edges and weight make it feel a bit unwieldy to hold, esp in my Casemate squared off case. Last night I went to bed ready to return it today (missing my Note 20 Ultra and still reaching for it for web browsing and news) but I switched to another case with rounded edges this morning and it feels better in hand and easier to hold. The slower refresh rate is really noticeable when scrolling (for me) and I didn’t expect to notice but it’s definitely noticeable. Apple Watch 6 is definitely better than my Watch Active2 but then again I still won’t probably use it except for quick glances and to take occasional calls which Active2 does as well. Setup is definitely simple; my only complication was getting contacts transferred smoothly. Face ID still doesn’t work for me in bed which is annoying, esp since Note 20 Ultra is the first Samsung phone that hasn’t given me fingerprint read issues and works flawlessly for me. I am going to try this out for the 14 days and then make a final decision.
I’m honestly surprised I’m not more impressed returning to Apple’s flagship phone. I haven’t had much time to play with the camera so maybe that will make a big difference for me. I used to think Apple had hands-down the most premium hardware and superior software but I don’t think that is indisputable anymore. Time will tell. They’re both nice phones but the Note 20 Ultra just seems more premium (just my opinion FWIW). My husband suggested adding another line and carrying both but I’m a one-device user and don’t want to complicate my tech life.?. My family uses WhatsApp for the most part as we have both iOS and Android family members so iMessage is no longer that compelling. Just my .02. Don’t want to start a war. They’re both very nice phones.

Nice thoughts. :)
I agreed with a lot of what you wrote too. The iPhone is just ok. And that what iPhones generally are to me. Dependable nice phones. They're not exciting, and gone are the days where they were truly groundbreaking.
It's probably why they sell so many and why tech phobic people like my mum, who wouldn't know how to turn a computer on (seriously) uses an iPhone.

I haven't tried a Note this year but I think it's the most comparable to an iPhone in terms of hardware build quality etc. You will have to let us know which you decide to keep but it doesn't seem you're particularly struck on the iPhone at the moment. :)
