I hear you. It's definitely not a debate in my mind. Both are excellent, but my preference is iPhone because I don't like Samsung's vivid screen mode. I've said that probably each and every time I've owned a samsung.

I do find it strange that people find the notch dated though. I wouldn't for one minute say it makes the phone look dated. I know it has been around a while now, but do I think the iPhone would look more modern with no notch and a hole punch? Not at all. But that's just me. I can see why people don't like the notch, but when it houses FaceId which I find to be very reliable, I can forgive it.

Im fine with the notch. But in terms of advancing towards all screen slabs, its one step behind. Notches were the first step towards getting a full front screen but still fitting in cameras and speakers. The next step was hole punches and popup cameras. However, Apple gets a pass on the notch to a degree because they actually use that space for something special which is FaceID. But I think they shouldve made the notch smaller by now. Apple tend to hang on to design choices a little too long.

Back on topic...how are you guys liking the Pro Max now that youve had them for a few days. Notice any big differences from the 11PM?

No doubt, when comparing the 12 Pro Max right next to a Note 20 Ultra, side by side at the cellphone store, it's obvious the iPhone looks extremely dated, like from 2017 in regards to the hideous notch, vs. the all screen near bezeless Note. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra just looks futuristic.

As far as the colors on the display, I think that's just the settings and how Samsung defaults to very punchy over vibrant

Plus in the time of COVID, something like FaceID is useless. The pandemic has been around 10+ months, Apple knew this, and should have at least put a fingerprint scanner in the power button.

I boxed up my 12PM today to return to Apple. Aesthetically, the phone is beautiful. However, the additional weight + squared edges + top heaviness (from the cameras I assume) makes the phone uncomfortable to hold for someone that uses their phone primarily one handed. I’ll go back to my XS Max which feels better to hold and is functionally the same. The only difference I noticed in daily use was camera (12PM is marginally better in most cases compared to the XS Max; while being significantly better in low light) and cell reception did appear to be improved on the 12PM.

I probably know your answer but the 12 Pro sure is comfortable lol

I'm loving it. The little annoyances I had in the first couple of days don't bother me and I'm not even bothered about apps being at the top anymore. I did try to get a transparent widget to work that covers the top of the screen, forcing apps to the bottom but it wouldn't accept my screenshot.

I know Apple could have reduced the notch if they really wanted to, but I don't mind it at all. And having Face ID is worth a notch.

Maybe it's slightly more uncomfortable than a phone with rounded edges, but it's much better than overly curved screens and having media distort over the side. In & put of the case it looks fantastic. I'd only ever describe is as heavier than some phones I've had, never heavy. I've never understood the criticism of phones being heavy. I can imagine it being a problem if a phone was top heavy for example, but it's a nice evenly distributed weight.

As much as I love Pixels, the moment I started using this I just knew small phones are never going to last long with me.

Only took a few quick snaps but it's more than capable and my second fav smartphone camera behind a Pixel. But with far more options and a lot better video recording.

Upgrading from iPhone to iPhone every year wouldn't really feel like an upgrade to me, the same goes for any same brand phones. But coming from totally different phones, it's a pleasant change. 2020 really is a weird year because I'd have thought you were crazy if you told me I'd spend £1,200 on an iPhone this year.

That was a bit longer than I thought it would be. ?

Really enjoying my pro max and being back on the ecosystem again. Just works too well. Pro max is a big phone though certainly to hold

camera is great for all photos and video is awesome I must admit

battery life is incredible but no surprise given from a 11 pro max. iPhone/Apple Watch and iPad works too well not to be happy to be honest.

widgets wise I’m very happy now certain apps have been updated it gives me pretty much the same information as I wanted on my android phones so for that so really for me only thing I’m missing on iOS is spilt screen and pop up windows and of course refresh rate

I have had an issue where my 12PM won't charge with a case on it? Has anyone else had this happen? I got the Apple Navy Blue MagSafe Silicon case and the Spigen Slim Cases and it happens with both cases. Bot cases are really slim and wireless charging compatible.
The charger is a year old and works with my N20U and worked with my 11PM with cases on them.

I had several wireless charging issues with my 12PM. I even had issues with the Apple MagSafe charger a few times (the charger snapped in place but wouldn’t charge). It very well could be hardware related, but hopefully it’s something weird with the software where the handshake is super stringent and maybe they could relax it slightly to make wireless charging easier.

I have used my 12 PM on 4 different wireless chargers (all different OEMs) with two minor issues. On one charger, the position of the induction coil on the 12 PM appears to be a fraction too high so in portrait orientation, it’s hit or miss if it starts charging. If I turn it to landscape, works fine.

I have another dual charger on my nightstand where the phone charger is adjustable (from flat to upright). If upright it works fine but when laid flat, the LED on the charger blinks and the phone won’t charge.

I have another in my office that works without issue and a new multi-device version that also works just fine. I also have a Pixel Stand but hadn’t thought to try it out—will do so tonight.

Well, Im back. Picked up a 12 PM today.

This will probably be the phone I use until next fall. Its gotten to the point that I dont prefer one OS over the other (with regards to iOS and Android) and I wanted to switch it up. I was going to wait until the S21 Ultra which looks like it'll be a better phone, but it'll still be really similar to the S20 Plus Ive been using for the past year.

Early thoughts, the refresh rate is very noticeable but Apple have some black magic they do with the animations that makes it seem like its running higher than 60Hz. Its still a downgrade from the 120Hz but im sure in a week it'll be less noticeable.

Hardware is excellent. No surprise there. Havent played around with cameras too much yet. Size isnt an issue at all. One thing I missed that I forgot about, iOS integration with 3rd party password apps is 1000x better than android. It just works. iOS doesnt feel much different with the addition of widgets but its a welcome addition. All in all, its familiar and something different to try until next fall when the new flagships come out.

Both of my cases the Apple Magsafe case and the Spigen case have to be removed for wireless charging to work with he same standup charger I have always used. It worked with my 11Pm with or without a case.

That’s certainly weird. My first guess was the magnets in the iPhone and/or MagSafe case were causing some interference with the induction coils in the wireless chargers but that’s obviously not the issue if it’s only the cases causing problems.

Sigh....Apple.

I would say the hole punch is what looks better. The rest the iPhone 12 is much more premium feeling and looking. Note feels plastic in comparison.

I know I keep bringing up this topic, but any of you guys that came from a 120hz device, did it give you a headache going back down to 60hz? It was clearly noticeable for me but I just figured my eyes would recalibrate and it would start to feel normal. But the opposite is happening. The jittering is starting to give me a headache. Anyone else experience this?

I’ve gotten used to the 60hz but i would be lying if i said i couldn’t tell the difference. I do think how apple do their devices it is still very smooth though due to the animations being better but going from iPad Pro or fold you can tell the difference. I still use my phone the same though so for me it’s not as big of a deal as i was making out before i must admit.

still would love to have it and i would upgrade next year for this alone in fairness.

Same here...have the same issue even after the new IOS update.
But as @tbayrgs pointed out I can turn the 12PM sideways and it work just fine. It must be the location of the wireless charging unit in the 12PM is different so not all wireless chargers will work now.

I am not going to buy new wireless charging units just for the 12PM that is dumb. I have 5 scattered through my house that work just fine.

Are you talking about the regular Note 20 or the Ultra? Nothing about my Ultra feels like plastic. If anything the back of my 12 Pro Max feels more plastic than anything on my N20 Ultra or Z Fold2. The only thing more premium to me is the stainless steel border which is nice but seems to scratch easier and adds unnecessary weight.
