I don’t think any phones are exciting these days wether it’s the note or iphone. They all do the same things for the most part. It all comes down to your OS preference more than anything else.

I don’t use my pro max any differently in terms of features as i did with my note ultra. iOS finally having widgets has made a big difference to me so i have news at a glance which was where the note ultra and all android phones were well ahead but now while the widget are different it gives me the similar detail that i want.

IOS used to be so boring with every persons home page looking the same so at least know you can add things on your Home Screen even if you can’t place it perfectly where you want

Only feature i think iphone is really missing is spilt screen which i hope will come with IOS 15. I use this a fair amount on the iPad and while i wouldn’t use it all the time due to the smaller size i think it would be very useful. I don’t think the iphone is missing much feature wise apart from that aside from higher refresh rate of course.

What’s exciting to me is more the future of foldables. I think once it becomes more main stream is when we will see great developments. Once they come down in price these will be exciting products for most people instead of just a few as it is currently.

I definitely have an iPhone and Android for different reasons. While I can use them both for similar stuff, each one has things specific I can't really do on the other. Like a quad DAC on my V60 for example. Even a jailbroken 11 PM with an equalizer, it's not the same. As for my iPhone, well iMessage and find my iPhone (My husband has 2 iPhones) can't be duplicated easily.

So while I agree that both can really be a matter of preference, sometimes there will be desired features that only one can provide at the time.

I'm not really sure I'll be getting on that foldable train anytime soon. I'm a bit slow to take on new technology. I didn't get on the iPhone OLED train until the 11 Pro Max, I was rocking the iPhone 7 Plus for 4 years! I upgraded my Android more frequently, as I found better trade in deals usually. That and buying them used is a steal compared with iDevices.

I think I'm dreading the day when zero phones have headphone jacks, and it'll be a nightmare if/when they all become portless.

Checked out a Pro Max today and I have to say, TMobile isn't doing Apple any favors putting that screen next to the Note 20 Ultra. It just looks dated and washed out.

Those yellow screens! I played the lottery with the 11 Pro Max but settled on my second one. If I turn off color filters, it's ugly. I got to go look at the 12 line yesterday and usually the demo units look pretty great, this was not the case.

I just feel like with all the issues like touch problems on the mini, yellow screens, trouble with hearing devices, connectivity drops, the auto focus complaints, and others it's just a no.

I have both the Note 20U and iPhone 12PM...side by side the display difference is alarming. The N20U is soo much better. The display is brighter..crisper and colors more detailed on the N20U.

I have a Pro Max and I think the screen is fine. I think the notch design does make the screen look super dated when next to a phone like the Note 20.

Screen is still fantastic on the 12 pro max just doesn’t pop as much as the note ultra. Didn’t displaymate rank it the best they have tested?

Notch vs punch hole I certainly favour the punch hole but they both exist so until it’s under the display both are noticeable

Yes, but I seriously question the validity of that test. I like the 12 Pro Max screen but no 90 or 120Hz, large notch, many people complaining of yellowing and flickering issues, etc.. Again, good screen but I question how they determined it to be the greatest smartphone screen ever.

Two different approaches to screen displays.. I usually won't side by side Samsung to Apple... Or any phone for that reason... I have to say I've seen more pics from iPhone and those pics are clear especially front facing.. They look better to me than the 11 Max... Maybe just my untrained eyes lol

Scientific analysis of things like color accuracy, color management, brightness, brightness and other performance metrics vs. anecdotal comments on Internet forums....hmmm, which should I consider more reliable? ? (tongue firmly planted in cheek for those who think I’m being serious ;))

In all seriousness, personal preference is what’s most important and it’s how we all decide what we purchase. Samsung’s display defaults are analogous to electronic store TV showrooms—that are going to ramp up the color saturation and brightness because us consumer for the most part love bright, shiny things. If you think one looks better than another—great use what you like. But that doesn’t necessary means it’s objectively the best.

Tests like those from Displaymate are only as useful as the reader wants them to be. They are far from absolutes. Them claiming the 12 Pro Max display as the best to date doesn’t change how much I like using my phone.

All true. I think very few consumers would look at a 12 Pro Max and Note 20 and say the 12 PM has a better screen. Doesn’t make it bad, but based on many tech articles and YouTuber tests over the years we have found that consumers prefer over saturated and super high dynamic brightness, or whatever Samsung calls it, over color accurate. That can be said for both photos and screens.
I guess I just take issue with people like DisplayMate and DXO Mark saying “scientifically this is better than that”.

It is interesting though....When DisplayMate rates one brand higher than the competition. The brand loyalists are quick to tout the results.

But when their brand is rated lower than the competition then DisplayMate is all of a sudden rubbish somehow.

It is funny to watch how brand loyalty is displayed on internet forums.....

I always think it is interesting how they justify “scientifically this is better than that”. It all comes down to personal preference.

Just like all these stupid benchmarks.....useless information.

I can say with certainty that I did not get this iPhone for the screen. Compared with every Android I've had, it's subpar. For me, I needed iMessage and Find my iPhone.

Apps do function better on the iPhone to me and seem smoother. That's the benefit of iOS.

well yeah oled is oled so for me so no matter if there are better panels out there I wouldn’t buy a phone just for the screen either. Quite low down on my list of needs it has to be said.

I never said the screen was bad, but sitting right next to the Note 20 Ultra on the display is a rough comparison. The screen looks dated, less clear, and less punchy (although thats by design).

I agree that it's all preference, but to say the iPhone screen looks dated because it's colours are not dialled up to 100 is a bit far.
I think the iPhones screen is great, personally. And I also think the Samsung screen is. When you go into display settings and turn it to basic rather than vivid. :)

At least Samsung gives you the option. Well, Android generally I guess.

Those that much prefer the Note screen over the iPhone, do you have the Note on the (think it's called vivid) setting? I always use the natural setting on Android phones, so that might make them look more similar to iPhones. Hard to say which brand I prefer without them being side by side but going from a Note to the Pixel 5 was disappointing screen quality wise. I particulalry noticed the lesser quality in YouTube.

For phones, yes, I’d agree that personal preference is far more important because true color accuracy is far less relevant for how we’re using them. But measuring performance in regards to these aspects is absolutely important for displays being using by those who count on them to reliably show color accuracy for their professional lively hood. Sites like Displaymate are just applying those evaluations regardless of how important it may actually be for general device use.

I take all of these evaluations with a grain of salt because like I said, objective measurements don’t necessary mean squat in regards to my personal preferences.

I never said anything about the colors. To me, it was the notch and that the Note screen just had better clarity.

Considering that's what most of the discussion has revolved around the last couple of posts when comparing these screens, it's a safe bet to say that was a factor.
The notch of course, is hideous. But some people also don't like hole punches. For me, I'd sooner have a hole punch because the iPhone's notch means you lose screen info like battery percentage. Which I hate about iPhone.

Yeah, my intention wasnt to turn this into a Note vs iPhone display debate. Ive always thought the displays on the iPhones were excellent. Its when placed right next to something like the Note 20 Ultra that you see just have dated the design is and just how good Samsung displays are (yes I know Samsung provides Apple's displays).

I hear you. It's definitely not a debate in my mind. Both are excellent, but my preference is iPhone because I don't like Samsung's vivid screen mode. I've said that probably each and every time I've owned a samsung.

I do find it strange that people find the notch dated though. I wouldn't for one minute say it makes the phone look dated. I know it has been around a while now, but do I think the iPhone would look more modern with no notch and a hole punch? Not at all. But that's just me. I can see why people don't like the notch, but when it houses FaceId which I find to be very reliable, I can forgive it.

I can just see the complaints now of copying if Apple went hole punch instead of notch. But that's not going to happen because of Face ID. It'll hopefully shrink until it all goes under the screen.
