Error

It IS the servers just like the log said. I tried maybe 50 times and 51 took! It's now in IOS5! So do not give up, it will eventually work.

Shiny brick

I have the same issue. I tried just updating twice and just got the basic error. Then tried to do the restore to factory and it started the whole process, bricked my phone and then gave me the 3004 error. Tried all the restarting and suggestions but still a brick. I just again restarted the restore and it gets all way to the restoring firmware part and fails. Completely useless hardware. Guess I'm gonna go bang on a genius' head now.

7 attempts here on my 3gs, a few times it would give me the error after it had restarted the phone as well.

If you've got tiny umbrella installed or have at some stage, make sure you turn off what you need to so that it goes to apple to verify.

I was in your situation for about the past hour. Kept trying to restore it, but it kept going into recovery mode. Finally it worked, after like 20 tries. It's their server, keep trying save gas.

Airplane Mode is Money

Don't listen to the naysayers, airplane mode worked first time for me. It looks like iTunes contacts the Apple servers before restoring iPhones, so that's what has been holding things up (too much stress on the servers.) No clue why airplane mode helps this process, but my and many others' experiences say it does, try it out

It is in "recovery mode" and iTunes tries to restore and I get error 3004

I have a macbook Pro (feb 011) running snow leopard (I think - I didn't upgrade to Lion)

I backed up my phone - I have wifi off and it is in airplane mode....

What do I do???

HELP

OK - I tried again - it said my phone was in recovery and had to be restored - I tried - got another error -

Stop panicking. Just be patient. You will all be fine.

screw you dude. Some of us need our phones. I made the mistake in trusting that Apple could still do their jobs even with Steve Jobs gone. What a joke. Think about this. If their servers can't handle a simple registration confirmation, how the hell is iCloud supposed to manage huge data transfers????????

It's a horrifying thought that the richest company in the world can't invest in stronger servers.

They know exactly how many millions of iOS devices they've sold. Why is this still an issue in 2011?

Yeah same issue with my Verizon iPhone 4 and my iPad 1.

Gets stuck in restore, and my phone is bricked with a "Connect to Itunes" symbol. :(

Mine has done that a few times, but the last attempt actually backed the device up and then it restarted itself, staying at the screen with the image of the cable + arrow + itunes logo with itunes itself syaing "preparing for restore" for ages.

Eventually the error 1602 appeared and I had to restore my iPhone and it is now re-downloading the iOS5.

Does iOS5 need to be redownloaded every bloody time?

Dont know why the screen on my iPhone is the "plug into itunes screen mind".

Hopefully it works this time, 28mins left on DL.

Now I know I downloaded iOS 5 on my computer.... but where is it???

Where can I locate it in iTunes???

Just to make sure I don't have to wait another 3 hours to download again...

Is there a spot in itunes where you can see your downloads?

I tried like 5 times and no joy. Then I logged out/logged in and it worked. But took FOREVER! I got really nervous 'cause it said that it restored my iPhone to it's factory settings - never saw that before. Then took FOREVER to restore my apps and music etc. Not sure why the process changed, but it certainly took me for a loop. I'm finally on iOS 5 and it seems like it's working. I think it was having a hard time verifying the extract on the Apple servers due to the volume of upgrades, but that is only a guess.

You come in to iOS 5 and you have to set stuff up; just follow the prompts. I'm not on iCloud yet, so I entered my Apple ID. All seems well. Oh yeah: It seemed to have forgotten my Voicemail password too, so have that handy! I had to think hard about mine. I put that in and it all worked fine.

Doing my iPad 2 now. Then I'll go on to 10.7.2. After that, going to cut over to iCloud.

Hope this helps.

Frick. Almost worked on about 9th try but stopped half-way through for no reason. It had passed the servers.

Now my iPad 2 is bricked and says I need to restore.

Anyone know which IPSW version I need to download for iPad 2? Because I saw there were iPad 2,2 and iPad 2,3 as well?

Thanks.
