Can't wait for this phone to release. I need some hands on time to see if this will be my next purchase. Does anyone know what the unsubsidized price will ring in at?
Not sure yet.......Hopefully the US carriers will have the 3GB ram and 32GB drive version available at launch. Can't wait for this phone to release. I need some hands on time to see if this will be my next purchase. Does anyone know what the unsubsidized price will ring in at?
Hey MRU.... I watched the DetroitBorg G3 review.
He said the G3 was one of his favorites phones he has reviewed so far this year.
He runs his screen at 100% brightness the whole 32 minute video and it didn't overheat. But he did say at the 29.02 minute mark that while recording 4K video the camera app overheated and the camera app shutdown to allow it to cool down. Other phones that shoot 4K video also do something similar. The phones gets too hot while shooting 4K video. He didn't say how long he was recording the 4K video...
Here is the DetroitBorg review....
YouTube: video
You are right......in the video he says the camera app shuts off....not the whole phone. The error says it will shutdown if it gets hotter.......Look at the error message. The entire phone will shut down not just the camera app.

I'm just concerned I'd get one with the issue. With both MKHD and Detroitborg both having phones where the overheating cut out kicked in - it's just not something I want to deal with. Especially for 600.
I'd get it over the OnePlus One in a heartbeat regardless of price if it wasn't for that concerning me.

I was really hoping LG got it right on this phone. But as you say....not gong to drop that kind of $$ it the phone overheats. I guess the good thing (if there is one) is it only did it while recording 4K video. But if you run the screen at 100% brightness it will dim it tom 90% if it gets hot.....
I just think with the Note 4 only 3 months away and iPhone 6 4.7/5.5 on horizon - it's too much of a gamble right now.
Whilst yes you could likely deal with its overheating safety measures. With so much goodness coming, do you want to ?
That screen is too much but LG can fix the issue with a OTA to turn down the maximum brightness I guess.
About the 4k issue did the snapdragon Note 3 have that problem ?
I think whe won't see 4k from Apple until they can figure that out.

Mike from DetroitBORG mentioned at the end of the video that the brightness level went down due to overheating when just doing basic stuff like messaging and such, no gaming or intensive stuff.
This is what happened to me with the G2 also.
And I've seen people at XDA say they've had overheating too.
So far this year has been a 2014 year of the flawed phone ...
HTC camera, bezels
S5 touchwiz/ram hog hardware features that don't work at times (finger print scanner)
Z2 - over heating. supposed 20mp camera that only shoots 8mp in its modes and manual mode has no real controls. Over heating, very oil attracting screen
OnePlus One = OnePlus What ....
LG-G3 - Over heating and skewed SKU's 2gb/3gb ...
Will we actually get the perfect android phone this year or are they all going to have tradeoffs.
Motorola to the rescue with the X+1, I hope.
Yeah fingers crossed. At least MOTO already proved with the X that it's not always about the specs. And they best make the X+1 internationally available this time .... Sucked that I couldn't get a Moto X and when it did arrive in Europe in Feb it was overpriced as the S4 / M8 & even Note 3 had dropped significantly by Feb this year.

If the latest rumors are true, Moto X+1 is going for:
Quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800
5.2" 1080p screen
12MP camera
2GB Ram
32GB storage.
Those are the rumors for now. I'm really hoping the camera delivers this time and that the 5.2" screen doesn't mean a device that's too big... :T

Thats it? Why an older chip?

Everybody said the exact same thing last year when the X was announced with a S4 Pro (I believe), crying 'mid-range at best' and 'DOA with an old CPU', yet it turned out to be widely regarded one of the snappiest/smoothest Android handsets available (and still is). Perfect example of how less can be more.
When you don't rely on brute force to overpower the flaws created by unoptimized and bloated OEM skins, you don't need supercharged CPUs.
I agree with most of what you said. But....how are the sales of the Moto X compared to other flagship phones?
I agree that is a very nice handset! There was a ton of publicity and advertising around the Moto X. The whole choose you own color for the back and Moto had a lot of publicity around the X. But it just didn't pan out after it was released. I had one as my daily driver for a month. I liked it but it did not stack up against the rest of the competition IMHOI don't believe it was ever meant to outsell samsung etc but it still makes it one of the smoothest if not thee smoothest smartphone to date with a lot of useful features IMO.
