How are folks feeling about the Rumors of a July / August release of a 805 variant ?

You know very well that the answer to that question has very little to do with the specs of the device. ;)
you are right...I guess my point was that the public decided whether it was a great phone buy deciding to buy it or not. The specs have nothing to do with it. It was advertised a lot (not as much as Samsung does) but just didn't sell well.

well...it surely won't help with the screen overheating......

I don't think it was even marketed that much, at least compared to the bigger players. I recall seeing a maybe one or two commercials for it, that's it--no signage or billboards, etc. Motorola certainly didn't take over the name of a terminal at Heathrow, nor sponsor the Olympics. ;)

But that was only one element. Of far greater impact, at least IMO, was the fact that the most unique element of the device, the customization, was exclusive to a single carrier in the US, and otherwise it was only sold in the US. IIRC, AT&T not only had carrier exclusivity but also was the sole carrier with a 32GB model, and availability on other carriers at all came shortly after AT&T (could be wrong on this one).

Regardless, not apologizing for Motorola royally $&%#ing up the launch and availability of the X but it likely did have a pretty significant impact on its sales performance, much moreso than its specs.

My original reply was solely directed at the classic stereotypical reaction to a device not having top end spec'd hardware. In spite of its 'inferior hardware', the Moto X was near universally praised for it's user experience and optimization. Considering this, I think it pretty foolish to make the same flawed assumptions on the X+1 before seeing it in action.

So far this year has been a 2014 year of the flawed phone ...

HTC camera, bezels
S5 touchwiz/ram hog hardware features that don't work at times (finger print scanner)
Z2 - over heating. supposed 20mp camera that only shoots 8mp in its modes and manual mode has no real controls. Over heating, very oil attracting screen
OnePlus One = OnePlus What ....
LG-G3 - Over heating and skewed SKU's 2gb/3gb ...

Will we actually get the perfect android phone this year or are they all going to have tradeoffs.
There were no perfect phones from last year either. No such thing, really.

Personally wait for the 810 processors with 64-bit next year or what Samsung might have in store for foldable/bendable screens. 2014 is a rehash year.

I am curious if the Note 4 will use the Youm display this year though. If not, Note 5 may have it or be foldable. Add thickness but at least eliminate some of the bulk of giant slate design phones.

The rumor mill went berserk today with LG G3 Snapdragon 805 rumors ... check them out, that would definitely be a nice upgrade! I was thinking of getting one but that would be a nice icing on that (slightly) overheated cake...

I saw those rumors.....but LG doesn't have the availability to release to almost identical phones at the same time. Then why release the G3 with the 801 at all? Makes no sense to me. Now no one will buy the not yet released G3 when in a month a better model will be released. Unless the G3 that is coming to the states is the G3 with the 805.

Not to be rude or anything but can we stay on subject, aka LG G3. I mean I'm sure the moto X+1 is a nice device (not my cup of tea) but there's plenty to discuss about the upcoming G3.

....... And then I noticed I was still a page behind, nevermind carry on. :D

I think samsung improved finger printer reader with ATT update. I set it up with my replacement phone. It works fine for me. Only problem is one handed use. To my surprise, it worked one go few times with one handed operation.

If LG was smart they would release the US version with an 805, whatever they end up doing I hope they release an 805 variant, basically.

LG G3 isn't out till next month and they're already talking of upgrading it? I would not be happy. I have it on preorder.

Look at this comment from one user on XDA that owns the G3:

"The screen is decent enough in sunlight, only problem i had is it wont let u keep the brightness at 100% when the battery is drained past a certain point. mine would stay at 76% at around 30% power(not sure exactly). I thought it was def better than my M8 though. As compared to my S5, Water and dust resistance almost feel like a requirement now, and having to worry about where i put the phone when washing dishes was a real pain. With my S5 i basically forgot about any water hazards at all. Its real different to go from that thought process to worrying about getting water on my phone. The camera on the G3 is very good, but again the OIS didnt seem to always give great pics with movement, the S5 overall had better pics so its a wash there in my eyes".

Take a look at his comment about the brightness level going down after reaching a low battery.

Is this true? Does it also happen with the G2?

That's a bit worrisome. I remember my BB days when radios would automatically shut off at 10% with no way to get them back up.

For me that wouldnt be as problem. I dont ever have my brightness up all the way. I have it usually on Auto. Its still not a finished product yet so it could be fixed.

Rumour or real, I cancelled my preorder - I can survive a while longer while waiting to see :) The price was pretty steep anyway (and will likely drop), if I'm paying release day flagship phone money, I'd prefer it if the same manufacturer didn't ship a slightly better model a month later!

Just got an email from the retailer I pre-ordered with in the UK called "Clove".

Thank you for your order for the LG G3.

The purpose of this email is to let you know that today the price of the LG G3 has decreased slightly to £410+VAT (£492 including) from £499.

The G3 will also be shipping with a FREE official LG wireless charging plate worth £59.99.

Both the price drop and the free charging plate will be added to your order, you need not do anything to qualify for this offer.

We thank you once again for your order and look forward to shipping it on the 1st July.

I'll take a £7 drop. Plus a free wireless charger :D

I can save you more ..... ;)

That's a good deal!

Yeah amazon germany have had that offer for a while now...

€549 which is 438.76 Sterling ;)

So best order from there instead ...

http://www.amazon.de/LG-Smartphone-...?ie=UTF8&qid=1402943905&sr=8-1&keywords=lg+g3

Simply add the wireless charger to your order. After you reach final checkout the cost of the charger will lbw deducted from your order total.

You should save at least £50 this way over Clove. -- or put it towards getting the 32gb model instead.

Strange. I had no trouble pre-ordering.

Before I cancelled that was ...

Given the 805 isn't going to solve any "issues" I think I'll just get the 801 variant. I doubt it'll solve any overheating issues (The Xperia Z2 seems to commonly overheat shooting 4k video).

Given I wont be using the 4k Recording Im not too sure I'll be too bothered.
