Is camera performance as bad as everybody says?
Yes. Prepare your disappointments. All your base are belong to disappointments. Brace yourself, disappointment is coming.
HTC are an absolute joke, I have just spoken to their Support Line in the UK.
4.2.2 Update is still NOT available here, my device is an unlocked handset and they have officially said the update is not released for the UK.
When the update is available, it could take a further 40 days for 4.2.2 to reach your handset as the updates are sent out in batches according to your IMEI number.
This is a joke.

I'd like to buy the One, but I'm a bit worried. I like taking photos with my phone.
What kind of photos are you taking. If your snapping for social media and your shots are generally snap shots of friends and family, and if you like snapping photos in bars / clubs when your out, then the camera will be fine and dandy.
If you are looking for landscape photo shooting and blowing them up to print, then yes you will be disappointed as 4mp just isn't enough in that scenario to do pictures the justice.
So yes, it depends on what you are shooting. There are many folks who are social snappers who think the camera is great, personally I shoot in daylight conditions and pretty much a lot of landscapes and seascapes. For me I find the camera a challenge for anything other than sharing on twitter / facebook / instagram and as my wallpaper on the phone. I wouldn't dream of printing them out at 10x8 for example.

Wait, what?
If you look at MRU's photos a few posts ago, they look fantastic...sharp and clean. Unfortunately, if you click on them and view the full sized images, you'll notice they're not as good as you originally thought. There are TONS of artifacts and noise, especially in the landscape photos (look at the hills in the background...see how soft the edges of the hills are?)
The fact of the matter is, less megapixels (even if it's "Ultrapixels") means less detail...period. HTC can spin it any way they want, but they can't change that fact.
Thank you.
Well, I like using my smartphone camera when I travel and taking lots of pictures.
I don't want to print them, just to store them in my Mac and watch them later.
I don't know, in fact, if I should buy the One or the S4.
ExactlyLooking at them small they look great, enlarge them to full size and the lack of pixels in the background just can't do landscapes justice
And yes whatever phone I get next..... It will have 13mp or more![]()
Ok.. It's S4 for me, then.
Camera is a too much important for me.
I hate TouchWiz, but.. I'll just change (visually) as much as possible.

Call Reception?
Did anyone here move from an iPhone 4S to the One? I've been trying to decide between the One and the SGS4 and have been pretty evenly split but leaning towards the One. However, one thing that will be important is call reception! I live in an area that is edging out towards marginal and the signal strength as reported by my iPhone 4S ranges from -94 to -111 so I need a phone that will be in roughly the same ballpark for actual reception.
I live in a rural area and there are black spots, my iPhone 4/4S/4 dropped calls / lost connection far more than my HTC One in same area.

I can confirm this as well when using the elevators in my building. With my iphone 4, when I entered the elevator and took a short ride, half the time the call would drop. With my One, never once has the call dropped in this situation.
What makes it all the more remarkable is that for 3G with my carrier (which the iphone 4 uses), they use 850 mhz (lower frequencies better at penetrating structures) whereas for 4G/LTE (with my One) they use AWS (1700 mhz uplink, 2100 mhz downlink).
For those that have updated to 4.2.2, can you report on the quality of the sound coming from the speakers? I read that ppl were reporting that the sound is not as loud as before.

I'm sorry ppl feel that way but I love my One lol. After rooting and I installing XPOSE Framework + GREENIFIED , my HTC ONE functions just like iOS in terms of hibernating apps that would run in the background while the device is asleep. My battery life is amazing after this essential mod!
I have a Sprint HTC One. Classifying Spring reception in my area as marginal would be an optimistic classification.Call Reception?
I purchased the HTC One last Thursday. With the sole intention of turing it into a quasi-GPe One. After a hiccup with the keyboard because of the CID being different, I'm absolutely in love with this phone.
I've used a plethora of Androids, my favourites have been the Nexus devices, while not always fully featured, they have to me at least been the best blend of hardware and software. I really like the look of vanilla Android.
Now that I have what is essentially the best physical hardware with the best software, I couldn't be happier. This phone is the best one I've owned, nay, the best I've ever used. Apart from the camera, but who transfers their images to a computer for scrutiny anyway?
I know many of you will tell me that I'm missing a boatload of features from Sense. I've never used them and until they change the way it looks, I won't be using them for a while.
For a slightly longer gushing, check out my five-day review here
