Sounds great. I'm on a Developer's Edition bought directly from HTC. Where is it?

It's coming. Patience is a virtue my friend - you'll be handsomely rewarded :D

Seriously though, in an ideal world I'd like to see quicker updates, but at the end of the day the One you're using now is running better than most other devices.

It seems odd to throw HTC under the bus for being a bit cautious with updates when there is nothing seriously wrong with the current software (menu bar excluded of course :p).

And while waiting for 4.2.2 is a bit annoying, the Note 2 and S3 aren't even getting it anytime soon so HTC is doing a bit better right now.

On that note, what about the HTC One X and One X+? Samsung is doing a MUCH better job at updates than HTC. The One X came out before the S3 and didn't get Jelly Bean until March 2013. S3 had it late November of 2012.

How is HTC doing better? The One should have been released with 4.2.2. If Samsung can do it, why not HTC?

Excuses, excuses, That's all I'm hearing. Why does HTC get a free pass on their FLAGSHIP device?

I'm disappointed that 4.2.2 isn't on my HTC One yet, but I'm certainly not annoyed.

4.2.2 doesn't bring any massive features to me personally, and I suspect that's true for many. What does worry me is that 5.0 could be a big advancement, and that may take a long time to port over, if it ever makes it.

I imagine this is like being an iPhone 4 owner when the iPhone 4S came out: Annoyed at missing a feature for a completely arbitrary reason, not knowing how much you don't need it or won't use it.

Preempting the non-value add responses that the above may generate: This may not reflect your own personal usage and yes, I'm sure you do use Siri every day

The One S was never a flagship device though. And while waiting for 4.2.2 is a bit annoying, the Note 2 and S3 aren't even getting it anytime soon so HTC is doing a bit better right now.

You know when Note 2 and S3 were released?
WHERE is HTC doing better, the S4, which you have to compare with the One, is running 4.2.2 since nearly 3 months.
Please do research before posting.

?

You always fail to paint a complete picture... YES the AT&T variant got it in March. The rest of the world got JB in late November or early December 2012.

Why AT&T delayed rolling out the update is anyone's guess, but seeing as other got it months before you can't blame HTC solely.....

The international One X was updated to Jelly Bean around about the same time as the S3. It was the AT&T model that wasn't updated until March, so you've got them to blame for the delay.

The GS4 launched with 4.2.2, and Touchwiz was still a buggy mess. Every review has commented on this, yet the One was praised for its responsiveness. In the end what good was it that Samsung included the latest version of Android on their flagship when in performed worse than the One on a older version.

How is HTC getting a pass? They're being thrashed by Samsung even though they have an all-round superior device. I just can't understand the anger towards HTC for not updating the One to 4.2.2 even though it runs better than GS4 on the same software version.

It seems like people want the update just to have bragging rights, as they will once 4.3 rolls round, even if it offers no tangible improvements.

Bingo! This is what drives me nuts about Android. People would be losing their damn minds if HTC rolled out a buggy version of 4.2.2 and everyone would be crying about why they didn't stick with 4.1.2 until they had it completely ready to go.

What is so great about 4.2.2. that people want that the current HTC One doesn't do?

Lol, well after updating to it, it does add some nice extra features (mostly to sense 5 not Android specifically) but yeah they aren't massive differences, but they are appreciated.

4.3 going on what has been shown, seemingly offers very little extra differences however. :)

The overblown lag issue was solved within days of the worldwide release by a simple software patch.

How is HTC getting a pass?

Making an excuse like "the new features in 4.2.2 aren't needed at all" or "4.1.2 is fine with me" is the same as giving them a pass

It seems like people want the update just to have bragging rights, as they will once 4.3 rolls round, even if it offers no tangible improvements.

Another example of giving HTC a pass.

If they can't even get a small update like 4.2.2 out swiftly, what happens with KLP? How many months after Samsung users do the HTC users have to wait?

What is so great about 4.2.2. that people want that the current HTC One doesn't do?

A battery percentage meter would be nice. No, I shouldn't have to use a third party app just to get something as simple as that.

If it's solely AT&T's fault, why didn't the S3's update get delayed for months on end?

If it's solely AT&T's fault, why didn't the S3's update get delayed for months on end?

1) Battery percentage indicator is a HTC enhancement. It is NOT an android 4.2.2 enhancement. Stock android does not have battery percentage.

2) Ask AT&T !! Everywhere else got it months earlier. That says enough.

3) lastly, its not that HTC get an easy pass, its that most folks here simply DON'T agree with you. That's an ego thing, sadly not rectifiable via 4.2.2 or a sense 5 update...

If AT&T is to blame for the update, why didn't the S3's JB get delayed for months?

I suspect AT&T focused on the S3 since they were a much bigger seller over the One X, plus the fact that they didn't want to lose out on sales to the other carriers if they didn't provide a timely update (a problem they didn't have with the One X since they had exclusivity in the US).

A colleague at work let me play around with their brand new GS4 the other day, and it was definitely leggy compare to the Ones I've tried Instore.

Making an excuse like "the new features in 4.2.2 aren't needed at all" or "4.1.2 is fine with me" is the same as giving them a pass

I never said the features in 4.2.2 weren't needed (they're a great improvement). There was nothing broken on 4.1.2 (again menu bar excluded) that urgently needed fixing, hence why there's no rush to see 4.2.2, 4.3 even less so.

Another example of giving HTC a pass.

I agree with you on this. If KLP is a major redesign then it'll probably take a fair while, though since Sense has been slimmed down it might be easier next time round. If anything, I suspect Samsung may have a hard time upgrading Touchwiz, given how heavily skinned it is.

I hope this August 1st date becomes a reality. This will be my first android device but I don't think I can resist.

I haven't seen anything in 4.3 to get excited about so far. Besides, the intial release is bound to be full of bugs anyway (remember 4.1.1?). The new features in 4.2.2 will serve us well until KLP shows up.

Now all I've got to do is sell my 5 and buy One :D

4.3 seems odd. Some rumors point to performance enhancements and others mention it being so feature rich they thought it was KLP

I've yet to hear of these 'features' though tbh.

Guess we will see, the HTC One Google Edition has already been spotted running it. We should be able to tell if there is anything of real merit when it is released officially.

I'm sure KLP will be the bigger deal, but then 'how much of a bigger deal' will remain another big question.

We're getting to the point where it is more google 'services' and under the hood enhancements rather than dramatic shifts in the OS. Given then we have to factor manufacturers skins on top, those under the hood evolutions tend to be even harder to appreciate .....

----------

I'm guessing that the One will see 4.3, and in a shorter time than people will think....... just a hunch.

It really depends on what it brings.

If it brings nothing major and many of its enhancements are already being substituted by Sense 5 / HTC software, then indeed there may not be a genuine need to focus software development on 4.3

If that is the case then personally I'd rather they take their manpower / human resources and focus on bringing out Sense 5.1 on top of KLP for release towards Q4.

If anything 4.2.2 update has shown the additions to the OS that matter (over 4.1.2) were not Google OS updates, but the new revisions and additions to Sense 5 HTC added with this update.

I really wasn't being serious. Speculating when HTC and then AT&T (in my case) will come out with updates is just a waste of time. I just posted something the complete opposite if the post before mine. ;)

Looks like I'm heading back to the HTC One. I've been going back and forth between the iPhone S4 & the One. I don;t know why but I'm happiest on the HTC One. Just hope 4.2.2 gets out soon for T-Mobile customers like myself.

hey guys I just recently bought an HTC One and its being shipped to me right now and was wondering are there any quirks about the phone or little annoyances? I just want to be prepared in case i don't like something about it. I so far like the device and I am glad I got it.
