Me too. And HTC ain't doing much to keep me around, so...

I turn my sights towards this year's Nexus or next year's Moto X.

Like yourself and many others, I'm anxious to see what this years Nexus will bring but I have to admit that I'm very curious about the Moto X and would love to get some hands on time to test it out. While I find much of the features Samsung has recently introduced as gimmicky or just plain useless, I like Motorola's more minimalist approach and feel I'd get a ton of use out of the the handsfree elements of the Moto X (spend a good chunk of my day driving). I also like the more compact form factor without sacrificing display size. I have some reservations as well (camera, display, storage) so I'll wait until it's in store's before deciding if it's worth a go.

I'm slowly but surely getting over the moto x. Would love to get some hands on time of it too for sure.

When I was first testing out the hotspot function on my HTC I was curious wether or not it had a tethering data meter. Couldn't find anything on the T-Mobile my account map so was curious if the HTC had it built in.

Exactly. The fact that the HTC One Developer Edition is STILL on 4.1.2 is an utter joke at this point.

Does anyone know if there's any major hardware differences between the US Developers Edition and the International One? There has got to be a reason why it's taking so long to update when every other region is at 4.2.2.

Either HTC are looking to jump straight to 4.3, or something about 4.2.2 is seriously messing with the US models. What on earth could it be?

HTC would really help themselves by putting out a statement to reassure customers, especially given how precarious their market position is.

Is there any indication that HTC has even pushed 4.2.2 to the carriers for their "approvals"?

And if 4.2.2. is ready, can't HTC just push directly to dev editions? What is the hold up?

HTC as a company is a joke.
How much money would it cost them to tell customers what's going on with updates?
I'm happy i sold my "Developers Edition" weeks ago,
and would definitely never buy an HTC product again.

So the Verizon HTC One is inbound Aug 29th, says rumors, right? And it's coming in hot with 4.2.2, says same rumors, right?

Expect US roll out of 4.2.2 on or around August 29th.

So this is what HTC means by "prompt" updates after releasing the One on 4.1.

And this is the improved HTC -- you know, the one that's up against the wall, that needs to make all the right moves to come back and recover their money, image, brand, etc.

And if we do get 4.2.2 by end of August, when then will we get 4.3? Can't even begin to contemplate that question.

It's actually a shame cause the One is a great phone except for a few very unfortunate pitfalls. Three main things: 1) Camera; 2) utterly stupid home button placement (now that I'm switching between a Nexus 7 and my One, it's all the more aggravating they went with a non-centered home button); 3) Updates.

I can't blame anyone for ditching HTC. I myself will when the right alternative comes along (c'mon Moto Nexus 2013!)

This 100%.

Lack of communication is really hurting them right now.

Given HTC's lack of support and updates, the only HTC device I would really consider it's the GPE One.

Seems like the only safe bet.

Agree.

And if I had known they'd release such a version I would have definitely held out on the dev edition. Sucks they were mere months apart.

Convert it .... If you upgrade to 4.2.2 you will lose your ability to get S-OFF, and lose chance of changing fully (full conversion) to the GE version. It's honestly not that difficult - it just looks more complicated than it actually is.

Does the menu bar still appear in stock 4.2.2 on the One? Also, can the home button be configured to act as the menu button with long press (as can be done in HTC's 4.2.2 update)?

I actually like stock Sense (use Blinkfeed quite a bit) so I'd prefer to just use my One with the 4.2.2 update but this is just plain ridiculous (I'm also using the Dev Ed variant). The two previously mentioned issues/solutions are what I'm anticipating the most with the update so if they are also resolved with stock 4.2.2, I'll consider just converting it.

Yeah I agree and prefer sense generally over stock in hindsight, yep the menu would be onscreen in stock android.

Who cares what the HTC One shipped with? Just flash it with the ROM that includes the features/functions you want. Maybe I've been deprived...but I don't have any complaints.

Looking to unlock my bootloader and root.

I want to change my CID to 'GOOGL001' primarily to allow me to use the Google keyboard from the Play store. (currently it installs, but is not selectable in keyboard settings)

I'm currently on 4.2.2, Hboot 1.5.4.0000

Do I need to S-OFF to allow me to change my CID? and if so can I do this on my current Hboot version? I have a feeling I'm out of luck, but thought I'd check.

Apologies for the noob questions don't want to screw things up.

Yes you do need S-Off to change CID

I used REVONE to get S-OFF http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582

Sadly it looks like you can't S-OFF with Hboot 1.5.4.0000 (I assume you have the 4.2.2 update).

just curious, what does it matter if it's released before july or released two months later? and if not the one, what would you spring for?

There are simply different options than there were before. I wasn't really interested in the S4 so had the One come out before July, I would have bought it immediately as I've been sitting on an upgrade for nearly a year. If the One comes to Verizon on Aug 29th likes it rumored, the Moto X would have been released (not likely) or released soon after. Then there is the next iPhone (5S), which should be introduced on September 10th. I'm not really interested in it unless Apple throws us a curveball. If the rumored 5C makes its way to Verizon at $450 or below off contract I may just buy that and wait to use my upgrade on a phone released later this year or early next year.

My point being there are more options to consider now and I'm not sure out of those decisions if the HTC One would be my choice.
