you're missing the point. much of the s3's life as the flagship model was spent while 4.2 was out. where was the update? it was and continues to be mia while samsung "sits on its hands" like htc is doing now. it doesn't bode well for the s4 and android 4.3 or 5.0. granted, 4.2 came out after the s3's release where htc launched the one with 4.1 when 4.2 was already out for months, but it doesn't excuse the fact that the galaxy s3 is still stuck on old software.

This has to be the most ridiculous thing I've heard on here. 4.2 came out in November 2012. The S3 was out in June 2012. Why are you comparing the One to the S3? Is it to make yourself feel better for supporting HTC? All your S4 hypotheticals are just useless and a waste of time. Samsung released their 2013 flagship with the most recent version of Android they could get. Why couldn't HTC do the same thing?

Why was the One released on 4.1.2 from July 2012 , when Samsung had no issue releasing their flagship with 4.2.2? If you are going to complain about the S3, let's talk about the HTC One X from the same time period. It got JB in the US in March 2013. The S3 had it around thanksgiving. The One X has already been abandoned by HTC, in favor, of the One X+. The Galaxy S3 will keep getting updates into the future.

4.2 is still a no show for both the One X and One X+, not to mention, their top of the line flagship One. The difference between HTC and Samsung is that they have made it clear that they are skipping 4.2.2 on the Note 2/S3 to go to 4.3, whereas HTC is screwing around by not telling us anything, especially when the Dev edition was supposed to get quick updates.

----------

Exactly. The fact is that short of Google putting out updates for the Nexus devices, ALL of the third party manufacturers are crap at putting out timely updates. Yes, HTC is has f%&$ed up the rollout of 4.2.2 to the HTC One, but as pointed out, Samsung isn't doing any better with last year's flagship and to act like they're on top of their updates with all of their devices is simply naive. Apple is deficient at a great many things with their devices but timely updates to everyone simultaneously isn't one of them.

Even the Galaxy S2 is still getting updates now. The phone has already gotten both the ICS and JB update. Which HTC phone from 2011 is still getting updates today?

Not a single of their phones from 2011 has Jelly Bean.

At the end of the day, my Note 2 doesn't have 4.2 yet either, and there is no information on when it will. That story is the same for the S3. You can't bash HTC for doing something Samsung is also doing: keeping users in the dark and taking their sweet ass time.

We're talking about 2013. Why did Samsung release their flagship with 4.2.2, whereas HTC released it with 4.1.2?

Wasn't this the phone that was supposed to save their ass from bankruptcy? Why are they pissing off their loyal users?

Looks like Note 2 and S3 are going to 4.3. Even the S2 seems to be getting 4.2.

I'm in the mercy of the U.S. carriers. My One was unlocked sending a request to AT&T but it sucks that alot of us are left in the dark. At least S4 is on 4.2.2 to begin while One is on over a year old Android. Seems to me Sony is doing a better job at updates since Timescape is much closer to stock than TouchWiz and Sense.

I really want 4.2.2 soon as I want the recharging time to be reduced to the typical 2.5 hours instead of the dreaded 4 hrs. Looks like One owners wont get to test 4.3's Project Road Runner this year which should improve standby time. If we ever, Key Lime Pie should be out. Sacrifice we pay for liking the HTC proprietary software.

Am I correct in saying that Android updates are carrier and manufacturer dependent? Simply because I've already got the update installed.

Yes and no depending where you ask.

International and unlocked versions of it got the update in certain countries.

U.S. carrier branded still havent received them yet.

The One has been updated to 4.2.2 everywhere except North America--sucks for us but believe it or not, the world doesn't revolve around the US. Far more users have it than don't. Also, ask users what version of Android they have on their handset--bet you 9 out of 10 haven't a clue. The only people pissed off about updates are the geeks reading tech forums and blogs. ;)

Contrary to anything else you've said, Samsung has not confirmed anything about the Note 2 or S3, only rumors so far that they're going to get 4.3 and nothing even close to a date. Some S3 just got 4.1.2 last month--you call that timely? And no, the S2 isn't getting 4.2, only confirmed so far for the S2 Plus for one carrier in Germany--hardly a worldwide update.

Yes, for the most part Samsung is better at updating their devices than HTC but still far from good at it, as with all third party manufacturers. They all suck at providing timely updates and support for all of their handsets is inconsistent at best.

Why isn't HTC speaking/commenting about 4.2.2? It's gotten to the point where even a little communication would go a really long way. It's frackin' sad.

I'll really be outraged if the Verizon HTC One comes Aug 22nd and us Dev Edition users still don't get 4.2.2. I have to believe HTC is going to push 4.2.2. along with the Veriz One release. Otherwise, it'll REALLY be a slap in the face.

This app has got to be shared for all HTC One owners.

Imagine swiping/gesturing up from your blank "HTC" home logo to go home. This is the closest thing to the iOS Jailbreak app Zephyr I've ever seen (and in some ways, even better).

7 day trial, 99 cents after.

How to get rid of the settings notiication from your notification pull down:

Long press on the notification in your notification pull down > go to APP INFO > uncheck "Show in Notification Bar" or something like that. DONE.

Credit and a big kudos to member GreenTwo for finding this app!

----------

I have it set so that swipe up is Home, swipe right is Recent apps, swipe left is notification pull down. Don't need anything else.

IT ROCKS.

Thanks!

Works a treat. Purchased straight away.

The president of HTC USA confirmed they're skipping 4.2.2 in the US and going straight to 4.3. He also said it should be released soon.

@JasonMacHTC @jmwein we definitely care and want you to have great experience. 2.2 is minor update so decided to go straight to 4.3.

@JasonMacHTC @jmwein because 4.3 is so close. And 2.2 offered limited customer benefit.

Then why did they bother releasing 4.2.2 for the EU models?

The 4.2.2 update was released in Asia & Europe before 4.3 was announced. It was supposed to have been released earlier but was put back due to last minute tweaks (the initial leaked ROMs didn't include lock screen widgets for example).

Holding off on 4.2.2 in favour of 4.3 in the US seems to make sense at this point, though it doesn't explain why they're releasing the Verizon One on 4.2.2, eecially given the extra time they've had to include the 4.3 improvements.

As others have said HTCs lack of communication is really hurting them given their current situation. Perhaps HTC felt that if they had announced a delay in updates then that would've blown back negatively on them, a case of damned if they do, damned if they don't.

For those still waiting on 4.2.2 I can promise you won't be disappointed. It's the best version of Android that I have ever used, and I say that as a long time iPhone user.

Bring on 4.3, HTC. Anytime you're ready. But seriously, what does "soon" even mean coming from HTC?

And doesn't this suck for Veriz users? Unless they're also getting the 4.3 update?

But if 4.2 is done and ready, why not just release it? Unless the U.S. carriers have some sort of policy about how many updates they'll release on their phones, then I understand not burning an update on 4.2.

So they're skipping 4.2.2 on the US variants and dev edition, but the VZW model is launching with 4.2.2?

Yeah, I'm not sure what "soon" means coming from HTC. :T

Agreed. I'm not sure if I'm happy or actually more pissed off by this announcement. For all we know it could be months before we see this update, yet all the while could have at least had 4.2.2.

Great news to actually hear something from HTC though. I'm plenty satisfied with 4.1.2 in the meantime, and 4.3 will just be icing when it's released.

Further tweets from the HTC prez says 4.3 "hopefully"to come by end of september.

Acceptable I guess, if they make it.

I think they will be able to get it in before September. Once they release it for there it hangs in the balance of carriers. What's the ranking on slowest to update software in phones from carriers?

HTC still hasn't updated to 4.2.2 for Dev edition? I never thought I'd see iOS7 before 4.2.2 on HTC One. What a waste of my time waiting for the damn update to arrive.
