How many of you guys have a developer edition? My guess is the carrier editions won't be seeing an update for quite a while.

Read alot from Nexus 7 (2012), GNex, and Xperia Z owners that 4.2.2 was not a great update. It lagged and ate up more RAM. That 4.2.2 lost the butter and that 4.1.2 is one of the silky smoothest builds ever.

I might just wait and see what 4.3 brings. The reviews have to be pretty stellar because I've read some probs from Nexus 4 owners already.

I prefer sticking to the original build the phone originally came with. Lesser features but better performance vs more features with worse performance. I tend to pick the former. I'm pretty content with 4.1.2 for now.

I plan to switch to verizon in the near future since it offers much better service than the other four major providers in the area I just moved to.

I am eyeing the HTC One, along with the S4, but I have a few questions/concers:

1)How is the IR blaster on the HTC One compared to the Galaxy S4? I would like to program a couple remotes on the phone.

2)I am worried that HTC will repeat the past with it not updating phones as frequently as other companies or just ditching phones all together as far as software updates go.

3) How is headphone audio quality? I have a pair of Klipsch Image S4I headphones. I always keep the headphones that come with any phone in the box.

4) Are the boomsound speakers on the HTC one bassy? or is that just with the beats audio equalizer? Is the sound ok without the beats enhancer were I to use my headphones? How about over bluetooth?

I like Sense as is, but don't want to buy something that might just be ditched, as far as support goes, in a year or two. I saw that Beats is looking to end the partnership with HTC. I wonder if that could be a sign of things to come.

Any help is great. Thanks!

Sense 5 really takes some getting used to initially but this is one (pun) lovely bit of hardware.

Really nice kit from HTC.

Bud, you have a serious phone addiction. Is your love affair with the Galaxy Mega already over? :D

Regardless, welcome to the club. And don't need to tell you, if you aren't a fan of Sense, you can hide much of it with your launcher of choice.

1) HTC TV app is better than Samsung's Watchon - but I use Smart IR - however it seems to have been pulled from the play store

2) Who knows. In fairness they are updating last years handsets to 4.2.2 and Sense 5, so no reason to not believe they would at least offer updates for the HTC One into next year also

3) Headphone audio quality is great. Beats does not just add bass, it works and enhances all audio making subtle nuances that are usually dead in mp3's back to the fore. Beats audio enhancement also works for bluetooth headsets.

Biggest dissapointment with the headphones is the fact that the remote doesnt work properly, and foget investing in Klispch S4'A' as they are useless as they too dont work properly remote wise on jellybean.

If you need remote control support - look at the Sony SBH20. Its about $50 - you can use your klispch headphones, get the benefits of beats enhancement and still have remote control support.

4) No not at all. Were still talking tiny little speakers - you are not going to get heavy bass regardless. What you do get is a fuller - richer sound that sounds 'vastly' superior to other handsets - but not necessarily 'louder'.

Oh no, the Mega still lives up to its name. :D

The only issue I have with it is the lack of S-OFF because if has the newer HBOOT. Was hoping to fully convert it to a Google Edition but I'll have to go the unlock boot loader and flash via an update zip for now.

It really is a fantastic phone in black though.

Serious question, folks:

Worth selling HTC One Developer's Edition 64GB for Google Play Edition HTC One 32GB?

Basically halving the storage size for some timely updates.

Everything else is the same. And I mean, everything. Right?

I could probably sell the Dev Ed for high-500's, which would more than make up the cost of the GPE, so it'd be nearly a straight trade. (EDIT: Oops. GPE is $599, so I'd have to put in a bit more money, probably.)

For what it's worth, I've currently filled up to 41GB on my Dev Edition One, but I can live with less things on my phone. I think.

Thoughts?

I'm on the newer hoot as well. Wouldn't mind going for a GE Rom but obviously can't go for the full conversion.

Have you already converted yours? If so what rom did you use?

I'm OK to be on a Sense ROM for now as I have a Nexus 4 with all of its stock Android love l.

I don't mind some of the Sense 5.0 stuff now I'm getting used to it but there are still some minor things that make no..... Sense (changing wallpapers via settings rather than the desktop for instance).

I'll leave it a few weeks before voiding any warranty for now (or hope for a new S-off exploit to be found).

Trust me, I understand the allure of timely app updates. But what is it about 4.2.2 and 4.3 that you MUST have immediately?

Personally, I'd go for storage over updates at this point. I haven't noticed ANY Android differences moving from my 4.1.2 HTC One to the 4.2.2 GS4.

Especially if you are giving up half your storage AND paying extra.....if you were deciding on which to buy at the front, maybe its a bit more difficult decision.

The Dev Editions will get 4.3 at end of September supposedly. But what about Key Lime Pie?

No idea? But is it wise to base a decision currently (especially one that seems pretty one-sided in that you give up more money and storage) on something that doesn't exist yet and that we don't have any idea about?

Just providing a viewpoint.

Why not just convert your Dev Ed to a GPE? I haven't done it so I'm not certain it can be done but I keep reading about others doing it (MR did it). Once complete you supposedly get OTA updates as they're released so do it once and you're done.

I've personally decided not to go that route for a number of reasons. The GPE still has the menu bar and no option to use a long press of the home button for Menu, you lose the unique elements of the camera app and the optimizations HTC made in regards to the Ultrapixel camera, and I actually like Blinkfeed.

I think you are both right. I should hold off. Thanks Jrz/Tby.

At the very least, until the MX GPE and the new Nexus are available...

Is that a problem then? To case or not to case.....:p

Truth be told, I haven't heard of any scuffgate style issues with the black One, but if it were me I'd go with a case. I just couldn't bare the thought of that beautiful metal body being dinged up and scratched.

Go for a see-through Gel case (I did); protects against drops and scuffs while leaving the device unobscured - the best of both worlds.

I wouldn't worry too much about KLP - by the time it rolls around we'll all be lusting after HTCs 2014 flagship anyway (8UP camera, 5" display with on-screen buttons, 3,000mAh+ battery, etc).

I say hold onto your One until then (or the Nexus 5 if the rumours pan out).

Personally, I'd keep the one with more storage. But since you are obsessed with having the latest updates, I would go with the GPE One or something else altogether.

Where do you see the Dev Edition HTC One going for high 500's? I may be interested in doing the same if I can get over $500 for it.
