Serious question, folks:

Worth selling HTC One Developer's Edition 64GB for Google Play Edition HTC One 32GB?

Basically halving the storage size for some timely updates.

Everything else is the same. And I mean, everything. Right?

I could probably sell the Dev Ed for high-500's, which would more than make up the cost of the GPE, so it'd be nearly a straight trade. (EDIT: Oops. GPE is $599, so I'd have to put in a bit more money, probably.)

For what it's worth, I've currently filled up to 41GB on my Dev Edition One, but I can live with less things on my phone. I think.

Thoughts?

i think high $500s is optimistic, and a gpe one will run closer to $650 after tax. so you'd be paying maybe $150 just to change the software on your phone, a phone you've complained about since you got it (off to the side home button, power button on top, camera). all that just so you can get 4.3 and, later, 5.0 in a timely manner? looking at your past purchase history, it seems to me you'll just end up buying a new device in a few months anyway; why not just wait it out and see what other compelling devices are on the market?

Coach, don't sell your DE for a GE. Just convert it. If it takes you 30 minutes tops. Its honestly a lot easier than assembling an iKea bookcase, even if the instructions are awfully long.

Truth be told, I haven't heard of any scuffgate style issues with the black One, but if it were me I'd go with a case. I just couldn't bare the thought of that beautiful metal body being dinged up and scratched.

Go for a see-through Gel case (I did); protects against drops and scuffs while leaving the device unobscured - the best of both worlds.

I opted for the official snap on case.

Shame to have that lovely design hidden but I'm not a fan of transparent cases as they seem to collect (visible) dust under their casing.:(

I'm thinking about that one when I get my phone or the commuter. Does this case end up scratching your phone in any way?

I've just checked and mine is fine but I can see it doing damage if you slid it in with grit or sand caught in it as its hard and a rather tight fit inside.

AGHHHH Be so careful. That case scratched my speaker grill !!!!!!!!!! Any little bit of dust / grit / sand will cause havoc with that case and make sure there are no manufacturing defects on the inside 'before' you put it on...

oops :(

How bad was the scratch? :(

I may just invest in a pouch for when in my pocket and go naked the rest of the tines.

I actually like the iPhone/Nexus 4 bumper because of the ability to protect the sides and still have a visibly nice look at the hardware.

I'll keep an eye on the case and any signs of damage, swap to something else.

Some might have thought it was small / negligable ... but for me it was enough to bug the crap out of me tbh..... HTC / Vodafone replaced that phone anyway so I got around it with that - but if I had been left with it - I'd be peeved....

I did not dare put the case on the replacement one, simply out of fear of scratching it again.

Now I am at the beach 3 times a day - so I do get sand and such in my pockets, I ended up finding that just using a spigen ultra thin case for the back was enough protection (that and a spigen ultra crystal screen protector)

Nothing wrong with being an anally retentive smartphone owner. :D I'll be on the lookout for an alternative to this case it seems though, thanks for the advice! :)

Here's how I roll:

Clear skin on the back (regular static screen protector on the front).
It's virtually invisible. I hate cases.

And for heavy duty times, I throw it into this pouch from Etsy. There are MANY wonderful pouch options from Etsy.

Booya. No cases, no scratches, no fuss. But also no protection from drops, obviously. Pouch is great.

Who makes the clear skin you used on the back? I have a pretty slim clear hard shell but would much rather do something like that as I would really prefer to keep it naked.

I'm also a fan of pouches, carry mine in a Krusell leather pouch when I'm out and about.

I am in a real quandary when it comes to pouches. Yes, it protects the phone while in it. That said, I have my phone (naked most recently) in a clean, totally-exclusive, pocket. Hopefully, in the 3 months I have had the phone it will continue to remain in pristine condition.

However, I am concerned about the practicality of a pouch in terms of dropping the phone. Sans pouch, I take the phone out of my pocket and hopefully I don't drop it then. With a pouch, I have to take the pouch out of my pocket and then remove the phone from the pouch. This really seems to me to be increasing the risk.

I highly recommend the clear skin from Xtreme guard (link above). It's affordable and protects from minor/pocket scratches.

I think you're better off not using a pouch for your daily pocket uses. I agree it would be an added element of risk.

I only use my pouch for times when I need to throw my phone in a bag, like going to the gym, in my car, or traveling, or something. I don't use it daily.

Thanks. That explains it clearly.

I use my pouch all the time but I don't use a screen protector (hate 'em) and often have other items in my pockets. I also keeps it from sliding around on tables/counters.

I have also been saved a couple of time with inadvertent drops as my pouch's seems around the edge are pretty sturdy. Neither drop was from removing the phone/pouch from my pocket or while removing the phone from the pouch but rather from getting accidentally bumped while holding it. My pouch actually allows for a better grip as the leather isn't slippery--might've had a few more drops if I was holding it naked.

That being said, if you have a dedicated pocket and are comfortable holding it naked when not in your pocket, I say stick with it. I personally hate seeing handsets in these huge, bulky cases and try to use my phones naked whenever possible.

That clear skin looks great on the One on the couch again. I think I may have to invest.

I've inspected my One a few times after being repeatedly told how the case I bought damages the phone but all seems well for me. I'm more likely going to scratch it taking it in and out of the case to check so I'll leave it for now until I get a replacement.

I went with the white Speck rear shell for the back of the One which was imaged and recommended by someone here.

I too do not like screen protectors so the front is naked. I am using a pouch for the One in my pocket which actually is from a set of earbuds I purchased. I do not need the pouch for that and the One fits perfectly inside.
