So I got my HTC One a week ago, and really love it. The screen is the best I have seen on any device. The build is by far the best smartphone I have ever put in my hand. I really do like it a lot. At first I was not sure about blinkfeed, or sence 5. But both have been great. The battery life has not been great, but also not terrible. I can see myself keeping this thing for a while.

Now I am a little confused on a few things people complain about. First the button lay out. It took me about a day, and I don't mind it at all. Just took some getting use to. I don't mind not have the HTC logo as a button. The only thing that is just a bit annoying is the power button. Other than that I am good.

Now to the big one. The camera. Why do people hate on it so bad? I really like it. I have gotten good pictures out of it. Great low light, and day time pictures look great too. It is the best camera in a phone I have used. It tops my note 2, nexus 4, and iPhone 5. Sure the S4, and Lumia 1020 may have better cameras, but it is not far behind in my eyes. And much better than the 5S. Just thought I would share what I think.

It's a fine camera if all your viewing pictures on are tablets / facebook / twitter & Instagram. Indeed, I have posted may nice pictures in this very thread from the HTC One. What it lacks however is megapixels and this becomes very noticeable when you want to view pictures in greater detail. Simply because at 3.8mp there is no 'greater detail'....

So for photographs where objects are in the distance such as landscape / seascape photos the camera just cant capture enough detail making them look a little blurry and lacking definition.

HTC Zoe's are great though.

Indeed had the One had a higher megapixel count - 8 or 13 - I undoubtably would still be using one right now, but instead I went for better photos.

Alright. I have not run into any of those situations yet. I will give it a try, and see. Still love the phone even if the camera is not great.

Yeah overall it's a wonderful phone and Sense 5 is actually very well engineered launcher - both from a aesthetics level where GUI throughout the devices apps are coherent - to the fact that memory wise its vastly more optimised than touchwiz on the S4.

You have a S4 as well right? I kept my nexus 4 so that I can keep up with stock android, but this is the first skinned android experience that I have had that I really like. I still like stock android best, but sense 5 is a close second.

So if we're just barely going to get 4.3 this month, does that mean we won't get 4.4 until next year?

Never buying another HTC device again

Now that I have had time to use the One more, and in a more normal way, I am overall very impressed. The build quality is superb. I never had a problem with my S3 with its build quality, but the HTC One is on another level. The screen is great in terms of size and quality (and again I never had a problem with the S3). One thing about the hardware that is frustrating is the button placement. I don't like the placement of the power button and volume rocker. I think Samsung had the positions correct. And then there is the capacitive button placement... which I'm getting used to still (I have to say that swipe home has been quite helpful).

With the addition of Nova Prime, the HTC One has been great. I've gone through the process of swapping out some of the default apps and keyboard. It feels comfortable in the hand, even if it is heavier than what I'm used to (not a bad thing, it feels substantial). I'm still contemplating rooting, but I haven't quite decided. If anyone has any more suggestions to make the HTC One experience better, it would be greatly appreciated.

So if HTC is skipping 4.2.2 for everyone but Verizon here in the US does that mean when 4.3 arrives the things that I liked about 4.2.2 will never make it into the US versions of the one, like the physical battery percentage indicator and the ability to remove the menu (3 dots) from most screens?

----------

Next month. There was an announcement. S3, S4, and GN2

Saw somewhere today that Samsung is preparing 4.3 for the S3, S4 and Note II.

4.3 will have whatever changes were previously implemented in 4.2.

I bought an HTC ONE for myself, and my son last night. My wife was able to get an iphone 5S on Saturday, but I wasn't. None of us has had a smartphone before, but we do have plenty of tablets. I grew to hate Android from owning Samsung tablets, but the Android on the ONE is a much better experience, and I believe it's better than the 5S. A larger screen means a larger phone, but the 5S's smaller size mean smaller everything. The ONE offers options galore compared to the 5S, but I should say that I've never tried any other smartphone. I'm loving the aluminum housing, and it makes plastic phones look cheap. My hands are large, so I can easily use the ONE singlehanded. The camera does gather a great deal of light for night time outdoor pics, but low light indoor pics have a strange hue and lots of noise. The camera is important to me, but mostly for daylight shots, so I'll give it a shot today.

The fact that we bought Verizon versions for $50 each was fantastic! With the ONE's build quality, it's more than a bargain....as long as outdoor pics work well.

P.S. We each bought the silver version. I was thinking about blue, but allowed myself to be talked out of it by my son and the salesman. Oh we'll..... :D

EDIT: Why does a tiny green light flash in my top speaker grill????

That's a notification light--will blink when you have an unread/unviewed notification (i.e. text, email, etc). You can turn it off if you don't want to use it in Settings.
