as others have said...it takesa couple of days for the battery to settle down. Give it some time. Yesturday i spent 2 hours on Pandora at the gym another hour playing music through bluetooth on my truck and 30 texts and about 30 minutes of emails. Took it off the charger at 5Am and at 7Pm it was at 42% so that is not too bad. Plus the phone is new so I am spednig a lot of time goign through the menus and getting aquainted with it! :)
Plus showing it off to friends and co workers and taking 15 pictures to demo the camera.....not bad!

5-6 hours of screen time seemed standard according to users on XDA. As for battery calibration, it's a myth or HTC does not calibrate it's batteries before shipping their devices which is unlikely these days.

If it is a myth then why does a ton of people have the same experience? My battery was draining extremely fast the first day despite me charging it continuously. Then after letting it settle it got better despite me using it more......

The home button is either unresponsive or the touch point so small that I keep missing it. It's very frustrating.

And again the location doesn't help with aiming properly. I ask again, why is it not in the middle? There is no reason whatsoever.

Is anyone else finding it either unresponsive or missing the button?

Also does the amazon app store work for anyone else? It doesn't seem to work for me.

I haven't looked through ALL the posts, as there are 100s and multiple threads. But in the ones that did post their stats (before and after) you'll notice that a lot of them had random wake locks before, but not after a couple days. The battery isn't 'settling' nor is it getting calibrated. Some task is just no longer running as frequently. Batteries simply don't get shipped uncalibrated these days. Besides, usage has been too short to tell. You could have great battery today, poor battery yesterday, and tomorrow it could go to hell again.

Couch - how does the camera compare with the Nexus 4 camera? Curious as that's my benchmark for bad :p

I must not be very hard to please. I do fine with the nexus 4 camera. Really crazy how so many people feel so strong about it. I know everyone says the iPhone 5 has the best camera, but honestly I can tell a huge difference.

I really was worry about a 4 megapixel camera. Now I know they did nothing special with it.

Edit: so I just did a side by side comparison of the iPhone and nexus 4 and well Yea the iPhone 5 is better. The nexus is not crap like so many people say, but the iPhone is better for sure.

I rarely take photos but when I do I can definitely notice that the camera on my Nexus 4 is exactly that, crap :p

So the fact that this unlocked phone lacks tmobiles aws hspa band is really stupid. What sort of unlocked phone is like this that it only works best on att?

This affects my battery life too adversely.

----------

I know it's my first full day but early impression of battery life is also unimpressive. Whether it's true or not that the battery takes a few days to "set in" we'll see.

There are so many things to like and even love about this phone. But a few key decisions that HTC made really hinder the experience. It's amazing how just a few key areas can mar the overall experience.

Again, only day one, so we shall see how I adjust.

Out of curiosity, what was the last phone you were satisfied with?

I agree with most of what you are saying....but I never said you had to calibrate the battery. You brought that up....... I never had random wake locks.

Why does the Amazon App Store just look like this? Anyone else?

I uninstalled and reinstalled a few times. No avail. And tapping that menu button does nothing.

I'm guessing this must be your first unlocked phone. Unlocked phones have been this way for years. The Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 are an exception to that (with them being pentaband), but 9/10 unlocked phones lack the AWS bands. It really isn't anything new at all.

Don't use amazon App Store, is there any necessity to do so if PlayStore is there? I've never used it so genuine question.

And I've read others have had issue with being unresponsive my home button is fine.

What is AWS? I'm on 3G / HSPA most of day and as I posted battery stats before, haven't had any battery issue so wondering what is different about the cellular networks over there that affect it so?

That's interesting. Thanks. Still a bit disappointing, though.

Amazon's free app of the day, of course!

Sometimes there are diamonds in the rough.

Did a factory reset (annoying I had to even do this) and the pics are not any better.

I'm sorry, folks. The camera just isn't delivering. I don't know what else to think. The color representation absolutely sucks too.

I believe I'm on the latest camera firmware, but how do I check for sure? Is it official the dev editions shipped with the updated and upgraded camera?

Guys how do I remained signed into Facebook but not have all that crap show up in my gallery app under "friends"? I've turned everything in Facebook off.

Welp. It can't be removed. You either have your FB friends' pics there, or you have a long ugly gray box that says "Friends" with no pictures.

SENSE.

Couch go under settings>about>software information>more and the builder number is the firmware

The dev edition doesn't ship with the latest firmware.

Mine says 1.29.1540.3 CL164689.

Can you confirm that's not the latest? Please tell me it's not. Tell me there's hope for the camera...

Those pictures are really really bad. They are even worst than the ones I take with my SGS3. Much worse. Color looks ugly and washed out.

Of course there is hope... Have you tried changing scene mode to backlight or adjusted lighting / exposure to indoor lighting.

There are loads of options in the camera, experiment a little. I told you auto-fix after taking a photo and HDR on mine was borked software wise, it could be with whatever firmware your on the 'auto' settings are not detecting the right lighting conditions.

Your images are very yellow, whereas conversely my indoor shots are much cool / bluer by nature. So clearly both cameras / software are dealing with lighting differently and as I say I suspect yours are not dealing with the lighting correctly.

Try a few day shots (outdoors) and see how you get on. If they turn out fine then we can rule out camera hardware wise and definetly look at it software wise. If they too exhibit similar issue we can think about it as a hardware issue. And as I say when you are shooting indoors with that lighting, go I to the camera settings / white balance / change from Auto to whatever lighting you have (fluorescent or incandescent) and see if the yellow is balanced now.

More hope. Read this from XDA

There is some confusion here about the age (or revision) or the updates. HTC tend to use the following naming convention:

In this case the 1.29 is the base. So 1.29 is newer than 1.28.

the .401 is the region or carrier. A higher number isnt newer, its just different. .401 seems to be the international unlocked unit.

the .12 is the revision, the higher the number the newer.

Therefore 1.29.401.13 is newer than 1.29.1345.3 (for example).

So 1.29.401.13 will be newer than 1.29.1540.3

You don't have the latest camera updated firmware.

Ah okay. Thank goodness. So when is this update coming? I thought HTC said the dev editions would ship with latest software.

If I have time today I'll take a couple of day time shots.
