Ah okay. Thank goodness. So when is this update coming? I thought HTC said the dev editions would ship with latest software.

----------

If I have time today I'll take a couple of day time shots.

Well literally just 5 minutes ago I got the software update notification.

mine is a different revision number however seeing as though I got my phone from vodafone so for me it is 1.29.161.11

Changelog says System Stability Improvements - Location services update - HTC Zoe : Sound Quality improvements - Camera : Parametre Fine Tuning - Beats Audio : Ehancements

Great Stuff... Updating now.

Actually THAT WAS VERY FAST for pushing out an update to carrier phones too. I know my phone is minus carrier bloatware and sim free - but it is still a carrier revision - so getting the update at same time as the factory unbranded models is VERY surprising. Good stuff HTC at least no more waiting a couple of months after unbranded update rollouts.

Yeah I'd like to see pentaband become the standard. I love having a pentaband phone and having the freedom to leave and go to a different carrier.

Yeah this is a real hindrance. Tmobiles lte network just isn't up to snuff yet and to not have hspa+ to fall back on really sucks. It's struggling to get signal which I think is adversely affecting my battery life.

It's not too early to say the battery life leaves a bit to desire in general.

And generally speaking now, the goddamn home button touch point is so small or the capacitive sensitivity is so low (either way) that it keeps either missing or not registering my home presses.

It doesn't help that the home button is so stupidly located too. Nor does it help that it requires 2 taps for the app switcher. Sometimes I have to tap 4 times to get that one going. Once I had to tap 6 times.

It's driving me nuts more than I thought it even would. And all this could've been easily avoided. Easily.

Maybe it's too early, maybe it's not, but the battery life isn't impressive so far.

I do almost the same exact thing on my commute in the morning, and when I get into my office, that's how I [unscientifically] gauge how the battery life is.

Here's how it looks:

Galaxy Nexus (after Google's software updates) - would get in with anywhere from 90-93%. It was great. Wasn't true in the beginning, though.

Nexus 4 - would get in with 86-88%. Even after "battery fixes". Eh.

iPhone 5 - would get in with ~93%. Sometimes one higher or lower. Great.

HTC One - got in this morning at 81%. Disapponting, to say the least.

The battery maybe needs to "set in" some more, so yeah, these are early impressions. But to be honest, all my "early" battery impressions of my past devices netted out the same later on.

=T

I personally have never notice a difference. I think all of the battery "training" is a placebo.

My own experience of the HTC One, over a period of three weeks, was that it generally used between 10% - 20% per hour. Rarely less.

Even in standby it was using quite a bit (but obviously less than 10% per hour). Disappointing.

Very good impression so far on my HTC One although how do I remove the stock browser from the dock and put chrome instead on my dock?

I ended up putting chrome right next to stock browser so now there's 2 of them on my dock sitting side by side. (Kind a annoying). I drag both of them to "uninstall" but it comes back to my dock.

Install a launcher like Nova. It will enhance the phone for you. It will let you add more icons to the dock bar and remove the ones you don't want. It will let you add more rows of icons vertically and horizontally. It made all the difference for me. I am not a fan of Sence....

I know some people don't like blink feed but I do. Will I be able to use blink feed with Nova?

very simples......

go into apps drawer.

hold down and drag stock browser from the bottom dock bar back into the apps drawer.

drag chrome into the dock.

done.

NO. You wont.

SAD NEWS for me !!!

Well..... Contrary to popular belief onthecouchagain isn't going to be the first to return the One.

I am......

Yep I discovered that I actually do have a defective lens in the camera, never noticed it until started taking pictures of skies and saw this....

IMAG0240.jpg

After careful examination of my other pics it is common in all and then i noticed it actually in the camera app itself too.

:(:(:(

On bright side the 1.29 firmware has improved HDR

IMAG0239.jpg

But not my defective lens.

Galaxy S4 is out tomorrow and I need a phone...... This will be away a good week or more. It may yet transpire that I end up with an S4 before him :p

You have to be in the app drawer, hold the stock internet icon move it in the app drawer, then hold and move the chrome icon into the dock. You have to be in app drawer. I like the phone just hate the way HTC decided to implement this it takes a lot longer, and slight more complicated then it needs to be.

So, unlike a defective iPhone, it's not just swapped for a replacement?

No because I bought online directly from the carrier (vodafone), it has to be sent off, examined, then either a refund or replacement arranged, then shipped back down. Was told a refund will take upto 7 days, a replacement upto 14.

WTF am I going to do without a smartphone for a week let alone 14 days????

So there-in lies the temptation. Do I get a refund or replacement, and either way do I get an S4 tomorrow (I still have an upgrade available on my account as I bought the HTC one full price) and see how I get on for a week......

So yeah decisions. TBH I'll probably hold out for a replacement HTC one, the more and more I look at S4 & more-over Touchwiz the more I don't like, and I VASTLY prefer the look of sense OS aesthetically too. But that 13mp camera does look nice on the S4.

Will decide tomorrow when my HTC one is collected to be sent back.

Well it's second day of use and my battery is dropping with barely use. 100% completely charged in the morning and when I arrived at work 1 hr later it's 90%. I checked email before I left the house and bluetooth is on that was it, didn't do much with the phone besides.
Hopefully it gets better but I suspect something else is draining the battery. Oh boy, I may have to abandon Android afterall.

I think it's the screen. I've noticed playing video really kills the battery, and when I have it plugged in it really slows down the charge, but if I'm listening to music it drops a lot less and actually recharges.

Do you have auto brightness turn on? How about Google Now? I turned off Google Now thinking it was the culprit but it's still dropping.
It drops even when I'm not using so I don't think it's the screen.

THIS is what bothers me like crazy were I to buy the HTC One or other brand of phone as compared to an iPhone. I am tired of my phone, be it the OS or the screen size. However, to go through all this with returning a phone etc and the waiting when I have an Apple store 10 minutes walk away with a new/refurbished swap out so rapidly ....

Regarding your lens issue, you of course remember the whole matter with yield issues (supposedly 20-30% yield allegedly) with various camera parts.

With other complaints, this makes me think that they were perhaps under huge pressure to get the phone out in time (they still were late) and lowered their standards to just get the phones in the marketplace.

WHat's the defect exactly?

Battery is holding at 81%, hasn't drop a percent since last half an hour so it's promising.

But camera is kind of hit or miss. Some looks nice some just look dull and wash out so I'm not completely sold on the phone yet. 12 more days to decide to see if I want to keep it.

WHat's the defect exactly?

Yeah it's subtle hence I didn't spot it sooner, but now it's as clear as day.

Marked it on the pictures. It's a crescent black mark that is pervasive. clearly part of the ring of the lens or some such.

Its in the same position in all the photos.

Yep if it was Apple they would have allowed the advanced repair replacement option too if you couldn't get to an apple store, meaning they'd send you an iPhone replacement and then you send yours back after you get your replacement. That makes returning it so much easier, and doesn't leave you without a phone.

Auto brightness is on and Google now turned off. It's weird, I tried in battery saver mode and standby time was great, it dropped 2% an hour in standby. I think it may be something running in the background that battery saver disables.

Seriously, the low-light photos I've taken really aren't even that good.

And when it does pull in more light, it blows out any areas that already are lit. So yeah, you'll see more of the darker areas, but the lighter areas will be too bright to the point of it being blasted white.

Seriously, guys. HTC made a big mistake with the camera gamble.

Above anything else, I'm more worried about the development of the One, specifically for the AT&T variant. One of the few things I dislike about htc is how they've changed their mantra over the years. At first they were the most developer friendly OEM out there. They were the little guy that appeased to the tech geeks like myself. Now they're starting to feel like just another oem looking to crank out commercial phones and ride the android gravy train till the wheels fall off.

Hopefully, having the LTE variant won't be such a pita to develop for like the One X+

Well, here are some pictures I took with my one, the first is in normal mode, the second in night mode, the third in hdr mode, and the last was with my iPhone 5 for comparison. It was the middle of the night when I took these.
