Above anything else, I'm more worried about the development of the One, specifically for the AT&T variant. One of the few things I dislike about htc is how they've changed their mantra over the years. At first they were the most developer friendly OEM out there. They were the little guy that appeased to the tech geeks like myself. Now they're starting to feel like just another oem looking to crank out commercial phones and ride the android gravy train till the wheels fall off.

Hopefully, having the LTE variant won't be such a pita to develop for like the One X+

I wouldn't think so since they use the same chipset now on all their devices.

Well, here are some pictures I took with my one, the first is in normal mode, the second in night mode, the third in hdr mode, and the last was with my iPhone 5 for comparison. It was the middle of the night when I took these.

Second one is the best looking. Lots of noise for iPhone5, worse than One.

Yeah it's subtle hence I didn't spot it sooner, but now it's as clear as day.

Marked it on the pictures. It's a crescent black mark that is pervasive. clearly part of the ring of the lens or some such.

Its in the same position in all the photos.

I see. Sorry to hear, truly.

I really wish the camera was just a "typical" 13MP shooter. :T

The device is really growing on me. It's very hard not to fall in love with its feel and look (much like the iphone 5).

I think the surprisingly "only okay" reviews of the S4 are swaying my feelings too.

Just wish the One's camera was better.

Yeah I really like mine, so I'm torn but yeah it's the camera which is my only real gripe and I do like taking photos even if they are just for me :)

Go buy a cheap point-and-shoot :p

Actually this had crossed my mind too. I can get a decent point and click Samsung camera with most of the features of modern smartphone shooting for around €100

Stick it in the car and it'll be there whenever I go climbing mountains or walking on the beach. Taking an expensive phone when I go hiking mountains i never feel comfortable with anyway.

So yeah .... Just making do with my crappy Samsung Toco (that phone is so ****) till I get another HTC One and buying an inexpensive but reliable point and click might be the way I end up going on this.

--- Touchwiz is what is holding me back.

The more reviews I read of the S4, the more I think I'd get annoyed. I really like on Sense 5 that I can arrange the app drawer and put stuff in folders there too. I hate on S4 Touchwiz you can't just drop an icon ontop of another icon to create a folder, you have to drag it up to create folder to do so, and you certainly can't create folders in the app drawer meaning you can't just hide away all the bloat ware you will never use. The phonearena YouTube video with the loading lags worries me, and even simple things like the animation time on say opening a folder is stupidly long. hTC One, press folder it opens instantly. s4 it takes a second because of extra animation. Small but niggly things. Even the fact the app drawer icon is on the right rather than in the middle. That drove me nuts on the GS2 (last Touchwiz device I had).

Yes the Smart Cover is smart, yes the camera 13mp is mighty, but I don't like the transitions between home screens. I hate massive widgets and like things clean and simple whereas Touchwiz seems to think in your face is the way to go. I don't like widgets on the lock screen. I can never see myself using air gesture or smart pause, scroll features and from all the reviews those things are some of the major contributors to the SGS4's hiccups.

Sense 5 on the HTC One is the smoothest I've seen android run with manufacturer customisations. Its stark, its clean, its refined. Its just stands in the corner looking elegant whereas Touchwiz stands in the corner in a day glow bikini screaming at the top of its lungs 'don't look at me, I'm shy'.......

Yes I could install Nova or Apex, but then I'd end up spending loads of time trying to get the device to look as clean as Sense 5 and trying to get the weather widget but never quite succeeding. And I'd still have Samsung's Touchwiz looking dialer, calendar (which is quite hideous)...

I'm not convinced putting up with a crappy Toco for a week or using up my carrier Upgrade is worth while process for a better camera and a Smart Cover.

---------

I wish I could just walk into a vodafone store, hand them by borked HTC One, and pick up a new one and walk out - hassle free. If that could happen then I wouldn't even be tempted to consider getting the S4.

We shall see in the cool light of the morning.

Guys, having a weird glitch. For whatever reason, it won't load the far right icon in my lock screen. Doesn't matter what app I put there. Kind of weird. Anyone know what deal is?

]

That is weird indeed.

Have you tried changing lock screen style and going back to productivity (I assume that's the one you chose there)....

- try this just to see -

Go into power management in settings and disable fast boot. Restart the device.

It won't load your weather info because you hacve no signal.....it can't refresh the current data....

Actually it should be able to refresh via wifi, I had no weather info problem with my one with cellular and wifi, disabling fastboot was the only way it fixed it.

Whether that fixes the missing app on the lock screen I don't know, but worth a shot.

I don't know about you guys but Camera is good enough for me. All these are untouched only cropped.

Not that I know of.

Nope. Don't know why this isn't a standard feature of Sense and stock Android.

Thanks guys - I agree, it's a pretty dumb oversight. On stock, the power toggles indicator matches pretty well. I don't know if I'd be able to handle the lack of uniformity with Sense though.....

I'm really itching to get this phone - waiting for September seems awful. If can talk my wife into letting me grab a dummy line and this phone, not only will I have the One now, but with my normal phone line upgrade and my iPad mini upgrade, I'd be eligible twice a year - could upgrade my Android phone AND iPhone every year.....that would be absolutely fantastic.....

They are fantastic... Seriously good. It makes me wonder even more so I just got rough end of the production stick with the camera in mine, as they were polls apart from the clarity of those.

Dojo, can you try installing this Amazon App and see if it works? I keep getting a black screen. Please? ANyone else, too?

Mine ends up like this:

Couch, yep Amazon App Store works here without issue too.

The app icons are TINY in it though after you've signed in. Clearly not optimised for 1080p screens.
