mannnnn first i have been burned by wii u ea announcement and now this....i am having a week of potential technology choice fail :/

It's just the verge being sensationalist.

If you read Engadget's take on the article

According to the outlet's sources, Chief Marketing Officer Ben Ho could be partly responsible for the changes since he's said to be moving the outfit's planning and strategy back to its Taipei HQ. With Peter Chou pinning poor marketing as what held the company back in 2012, it's certainly possible things are being reeled back to home base -- not unlike Nokia's own centralization in recent years

See put like that it doesn't sound half as sensationalistic...

With HTC’s fall from prominence in the U.S., it’s possible — likely even — that the Tawian-based company consolidates operations back to its home country. With Apple and Samsung dominating U.S. phone sales, it may make sense for HTC to concentrate more effort on the bigger opportunities in Asia. To do so really doesn’t require much of a U.S. presence, sadly.

That does explain it and when you look at the article I cited above, the Chief Product Officer seemingly was on the "verge" (awful pun I know) of being out the door almost 5 months ago. This was before the HTC One or the First were even announced.

But as you and I both said, this was sensationalistic, better for page hits.

I'm still here. :)

I have Sprint version and did the update which was about 25mb.

Loving this phone so far. Not missing the S4 at all which I returned within 14 day time expiration.

Sad indeed, but also possibly the article is a little sensationalistic journalism at play. Notice HTC were not given any chance to respond or rebuke the article.

We know there was going to be a fallout after a botched launch of two products in succession. But don't write the under dog off just yet, the One might be the One good thing especially as it gathers momentum - more people who see it in the wild, in friends ad families hands, the more it will sell. They don't ave the marketing capital of Samsung, but word of mouth and genuinely great product will count for something... But whether its enough only time will see.....

Whilst not as much as Samsung, I'm still seeing ads constantly (literally everyday) in the UK for the HTC One.

They are pushing it harder than any phone in their history, I'd love to know what numbers they are doing.

Now next on my wishlist is a google edition HTC One like the GS4.

So that hopefully, the sense loaded One can also run a straight ported AOSP without bugs. Win win. Want sense? switch to sense backup. Want AOSP, switch to that depending on the mood.

I was going to pull the trigger on the One and then i realized, may be i should wait and see if the GE GS4 really allows touchwiz variants to run pure bug free AOSP. If so, i might just get a GS4.

Same here in Ireland (at least Dublin).

Yeah down here in the stix the mobile advertsing hoarding have four legs and moo :D Makes it very difficult to stick a poster up on one..... :p

But yeah, haven't seen one in Listowel, Killarney or Tralee just yet.

Carrying the one for the few weeks i have had it now, i can say that people do recognize marketing out there - I have had probably 2-3 people ask me... " hey is that the phone with the two speakers? "

Woah check your email guys. I just received $25 Google Play store credit code from HTC because of dev edition shipment delay.

True about the UK ads - BUT we still have no announcement on whether the 64GB version is coming out, which is a deal breaker for me (and no doubt many others)

As of this morning 4G LTE on my HTC One from T-Mobile in Metro LA, Burbank and Pasadena is confirmed, I'm getting 16-19 DL 9-12 UL granted it is not blazing LTE fast but it sure made me very happy hopefully they will adjust the speed upwards with fine tuning. BTW its almost a month with the HTC One and more I use it more I love it extremely smooth and very fast.

So I strolled into an AT&T store and checked out some phones, including the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One.

The Galaxy S4 has an amazing screen, but that wasn't a surprise (I LOVED the screen on the Nexus Galaxy). But... yeah. Feels cheap and juuust a touch too big.

Smugly I dismissed it (with a last longing look at the screen) and moved on to the HTC One. I knew it looks cool from the photos I've seen, etc. But I was all ready to smugly dismiss it and declare Android phones still suck and whip out my iPhone to tweet just that. I mean, the fandroids are endlessly masturbating over the S4 as the fourth coming -- if that's the best they can do... *smug laugh*

But... whoa. It feels amazing. The screen's at the right place size-wise. And yes, the phone looks just as amazing as it does in photos. The screen's not as good as the S4's, but it is NOT bad at all in any stretch of the imagination. The weight feels just right (not cheap like the S4, not too heavy like the Lumia 920).

Hell, it *feels* like an Apple-designed device.

I. Want.

GOOGLE: Y U NO MAKE NEXUS EXPERIENCE FOR THE HTC ONE?

HTC: Y U **** YOURSELVES WITH THE FIRST?

Now to make this post slightly more than just a random rant by someone on the intertubes, I have a question: have the community made a Nexus Experience for the HTC One? How is it stability wise? Is it worth of a purchase of a HTC with the intention of using it with stock Android?

Cyanogen 10 is available now for HTC One. As close to stock as they come.

Would love to know how the speakers of the One and iPhone 5 compare at full volume during podcasts. Please tell me if you tested both side by side. I find myself listening to podcasts at times without headphones doing a variety of things. iPhone 5 speaker is very good at highest level. Curious if the One is better.

Also curious about how many GB are available in both the AT&T and dev edition 64 GB model. Thanks.

Just my opinion, I have both the iPhone 5 and the One. While maximum volume on the 5 is no slouch, the sound from the One is amazing.

People can't believe its coming from a phone. The 5 can sound a little "tinny" at high levels and perhaps that is because of the different placement of the speakers, front on the One and Bottom on the 5.

Also the Beats thing gives you more base, but that is not really helpful for podcasts.

I also will sometimes listen to podcasts or music through the speakers alone. Funny thing is in many instances the One can put out sound that is equal to a Jawbone Jambox that i have.

One speakers are really LOUD. No doubt it's the loudest small speakers on a smartphone.

Thanks for this reply. Does sound (voice) get distorted at all when set at max volume during podcasts? Do you think definitively that podcasts sound better on the One versus the iPhone 5 at max volume?

The same guy that predicted [correctly] the google edition s4 just predicted the same thing for the htc one. Imminent announcement within weeks. To be released this summer.

Anyone else a little peeved about this not happening sooner?

The article is at android authority dot com:

http://androidauthority.com/htc-one-stock-android-edition-215254/

It talks about how HTC saw the attention the Google edition s4 was getting so they want to follow suit.

This is what pisses me off. They seriously couldn't figure it out on their own that a stock Android device would get positive attention? Seriously? This is why they aren't the android leader anymore and Samsung is. They follow instead of lead. Shocker. Stock Android device is desirable. Who would've ever thought!

If this all ends up being true, I'll be annoyed I spent money being an early adopter. HTC... Sigh.
