...... and it only gets better.

sniped from The Verge

HTC also provided another interesting tidbit: it's currently "examining the best way to support early adopters of the One" that may prefer the stock Android experience over Sense, perhaps by way of an AOSP ROM. The company isn't providing specifics on that front just yet

Finally HTC is acknowledging the dev community and making it official. This would be great, no more bootloader locked crap, no more s-on, no more funky drivers that don't play nice with aosp, and the list goes on. Either that or this is HTC's last pitch or ditch effort to climb out of that 1st qtr drubbing they took. The HTC one is truly their flagship and they know it's all in or nothing.

Companies are always like that. Very forthcoming when their existence is at play, but once they are financially sound, they start to ignore you again.

Get a grip mate, companys like HTC dont go vanish.

Weird i havent seen the news about Nokia patent lawsuits against HTC...

What puts me off is that you basically have to destroy the phone in order to replace the battery. If you have seen the insides of this phone from iFixit you know what I mean. I usually stay away from companies that design their phones this way.

Did you actually just come in to troll ? or was the end result just merely coincidental...

Looks like there are some more titbits re the 4.2.2 update coming to light;

http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.in/2013/06/htc-sense-51-aka-htc-sense-50.html

I gotta say, the One is looking better and better. HTC are on to a winner here.

Mmm the only thing I don't like the sound of is....

5. Minor changes in the app drawer and dock

Now you can remove all the icons from the dock, which wasn't possible in HTC Sense 5.0 we had in Android 4.1.2. Also, after moving some particular icon to the dock, it won't be gone from the app drawer.

I use my App drawer as a home screen so I don't duplicate icons all over the place. So I really don't need to see my icons from my dock also in the app drawer especially as the dock is persistent in the app drawer...

I hope there is a way of keeping it 'as is'....

No trolling. Don't know what you are getting at. But I am not a guy who is a fanboy and only say positive things about a company. But I'll get out of this thread, so you guys can continue...

I think you will find I have written quite comprehensively on this and others thread the bad aspects of the HTC one - especially when I was deciding which phone to keep from my S4 or the One, and how tough a decision it was to make.

Anyone who throws out the 'fanboy' name calling to other posters when they call them out on their recent troll like posts - loses any credibility they hoped to achieve.

And he was going out the door - from the COO postion - as of the end of December 2012:

http://focustaiwan.tw/news/aeco/201301030007.aspx

Goldman Sachs' remarks came after Taiwanese media Commercial Times reported Dec. 31 that Kouji Kodera and Matthew Costello, HTC's chief product officer and chief operating officer, will leave the company by the end of the first quarter of 2013.

Kodera "left" a few weeks ago to "pursue other interests".

It's clear basically HTC decided to move everything back to Asia and therefore all these exec's who were actually not the people responsible for the current success of the HTC one, but resided over the failures of the One X, One X+, One S, One V, One VS etc.. were going to be given the boot some time ago.

The fact that they seem to have 'phased' the removal of each of these from their posts is clearly a business strategy not to frighten the market with one massive company shakeup in one go.....

________________

For those that will say this is the death of HTC. I need only to remind you of another company that did almost exactly the same as HTC is doing now, and removed all the dead wood from it's business - those responsible or resided over terrible past decisions, as it re-focussed on its future.

That company was 'Apple'...... They are now a stronger company than they were back then.

I for one do not think HTC will fold or go under.....I think the success of the One will bolster them to a stronger company with a more narrow focus. I think they will move on from the failures and build a stronger future. Its awesome that they such a hit in the One...They have a new direction now....

Comparing HTC and Apple is a little ambitious, don't you think ;)

HTC lacks the customer base and money to be considered a major player in the marketplace.

Plan for replacing the battery?

I saw a teardown of the HTC One and it is pretty difficult for even experienced personnel. Has HTC given any indication about how they are going to handle a battery replacement? Any third party vendors ? These phones are pretty expensive to throw away if the battery goes south.

They will offer a battery replacement programme similar to Apple. If your phone is a carrier handset you return it to your carrier and they will send it to HTC for battery replacement.

Clearly you are not old enough or have no experience of Apple during the wilderness years.

Apple was in significant difficulty and did not have the user install base that one perceives them as having now.

It was close to the end for Apple in that period and many people and financial and tech analysts predicted it's demise.

When windows 95 exploded and dominated and Apple struggling from a succession of failures, it was predited to be GAME OVER for Apple.

Sound familiar....

This is so right on the money. Well said.

All very fair points. The big question, though, is who will be HTC's savior? Certainly not Peter Chou... right? Maybe?

Does anyone actually keep their phones long enough for a battery replacement? I have passed down old iPhones to family members for instance and have only noticed slight degradation in life at 2-3 years.

I am wondering if this is becoming less of an issue.

What proof do you have that this will happen? How can you make a statement about them offering a problem when they haven't said anything?

And no, you can't just "return it" to the carrier to send back to HTC. They don't do that here in the US (except maybe Sprint.) If you're under warranty, they send you a new refurb and you send the old one back to the carrier. If it's out of warranty, support is up to HTC and we all know that they are just perfect when it comes to aftermarket support, right?

Ahh, I love the drama. Keep it up. If I'm not mistaken, even when Apple was going through their dark days, they STILL had a loyal dedicated fanbase. And let's not forgot one man named Steve Jobs. Who does HTC have again?

Question for One owners. How do you find dealing with the wake button? The idea of having to constantly reach my right hand index finger to the top left of the One to wake it seems like a nightmare. Big phones without a physical home button should always have their wake button on the upper right side IMO.

God the camera sucks on the HTC One. Was traveling and took two quick shots. SUPER disappointing. Very blurry especially when you look at it on the comp screen.

The camera is such a sore spot for me with the One.

At the end of the day the HTC One is the most appealing phone to ever hit the market. It has a big, beautiful screen without being too big. The materials chosen are of high quality and feel premium. The speakers (and audio in general) are unmatched on anything really. The rear camera could use a bit of work with the processing, but the front facing is again unmatched with it's quality and wide angle lens. It sucks to have to reach for the top of the phone to turn it on, but it's no biggie after a few days. And the battery lasts all day. Can you really ask for much more in a phone?

The first photo isn't bad at all really, but the second one......

Of course you can.

The first photo I turned on "landscape" setting which is why I think it came out better. But if you see it in full, it's still bad. MR compresses the image size so you can't really see the blurriness, but it's there when you see it as a regular picture on the computer screen. It's very disappointing.

Here's the actual link to the pic: http://i.imgur.com/gUWtiQH.jpg You can barely make out the blurry mess that is the coca cola machine. :T

That is horrifying. There HAS to be something wrong with your lens for it to be THAT bad...
